Thank you so much! If it’s any consolation, this is probably my fave synth I’ve ever bought (OB-6 is the only other candidate). You won’t regret it if you like deep sound design!
@@texansbullpen777 Thanks for the kind words! And in a twist of irony, it's Miles' first patch bank that got ME interested in it! What goes around comes around! ;-)
@@DankePlace Ha - yeah, I'm OK at the moment ;-) But still, the 3rd Wave is so unique and Miles does a fantastic job of showing just how much vintage vibe this thing can have! I miss it terribly and will definitely be getting another one ASAP!
Thank you Jim! It’s a shame you had to temporarily let yours go, you were making it sound so good! But I’m sure you will get one again soon :) and who knows what’s next for the Groove Guys as well. They are the company to watch for modern vintage vibes! 🎉
So I’m watching this video ...again. Having owned this synth and falling in love with it, I'm amazed at how your programming makes me fall in love with it all over again, Devin. Also, having grown up in the 80s, this might be the ultimate bang-for-buck if you're looking for a synth that immediately takes you back there. It just covers *so* much ground and is dripping with retro-nostalgia vibe. Incredibly well done showing that off, my friend. Side note: your LED strip and eerie blue lighting does wonders for these sort of "late night synth" vibes 😁👊🏻
Late reply but thank you so much bro! Really appreciate that :) can't wait to see you get yours back, maybe it will make a feature on some Arcade Orchestra stuff that needs a PPG!
Just purchased the bundle for both volumes, thank you! Really lovely demo here and I love your bittersweet & melancholic chord choices, just what I wanted to hear.
Absolitely pristine. This is superb programming, now I understand what the rave about this synth was about, it's quite deep a machine. Love the demo, the sounds are awesome man. Cheers!
I can't believe this vid doesn't have more views yet! Devon, your first set helped me decide to buy this synth, I absolutely love it. Unfortunately I couldn't justify having that much money wrapped up in a synth and I felt extreme guilt so I ended up returning it 😢. This vid REALLY has me regretting that right now😂. Keep doing what you do 🔥 🙏
UPDATE: Finally finished listening to the whole video. And WOW, just wow! I been listening to Synths since 1980's and this is the best set of patches I have ever heard on RUclips. You knocked it out of the park on these. Keep it up man, you have a real vision for movement and depth. BTW: Is there reverb or delay added to these patches? Thanks for making me want to buy this! ha ha. Please do some patches for the UDO Super Gemini.
Nope! It’s only using built in 3rd Wave effects. They are amazing, many of these patches use the ECHOPLEX effect which is easily the best old school feedback tape delay emulation I’ve heard built into a synth. Superplate reverb is another great built in one I use lots in these.
Stunningly beautiful patches. Thanks for your videos. This certainly does sound like the best sounding synth... far out of budget though. I did however get a nymphes partially due to your videos. It does sound excellent as well in a very different way of course 😂
@@MilesAwayOfficial yeah the 4 outputs is exactly that, 4 synths. I can only imagine what type of music Tangerine Dream would have produced in their heyday with something like this. The were fans of PPG and you can tell why. It is an expensive synth here, but in context that it can be 4 6 voice with own outputs, with own sequencer, you can start to break it down as 4 synths, That makes it an affordable solution given what it offers,

I really want to review the UDO stuff! It’s on my list for this year! When companies don’t send review units, I have to pick and choose how to allocate my synth money. But I’ve gotten enough requests to review the UDO it’s probably justified to get one! Stay tuned :)

Interesting development Miles. I have a UDO S6 that I am not in love with so called the store I bought it from today and they've said sure you can return, and mentioned the desktop of the 3rd Wave. Thing is it's twice the $ of the S6 BUT I have 2 bits of gear I am not using, Pro 2 and Jomox AB. So imo I think it's worth it to get rid of gear I wont use and get a synth that is basically 4 synths in 1. I think this is far more suitable for the type of music I make as where the S6 is very specific and doesn't stretch that far like the 3rd Wave does. 2 diff synths BUT they use the same filter, I still would prefer something that I know I would use in my sets rather than try and build a track around the S6 like I have been doing. S6 isn't a bad synth, it's just a very specific type of work flow and you need to know your gear, the 3rd Wave seems to me like the work flow of the PEAK, which I recently got too. Now I just have to wait a few days or week to see the outcome. Both Pro 2 and AB are in pristine condition, just that these do nothing for me as my down sizing means every bit of desk is used. I love my plucks, I love my pads, I love my esoteric sounds and I think the 3rd Wave hit it out of the ball park, I just never knew I would be able to be ever able to afford it with my trades. 1st stop after that is getting your patches too. Thanks for the inspiration too, I can see something as a change to my approach to my music!!
@@MilesAwayOfficial 3rd Wave is something that when I got, never understood what all the fuss was about. Then I really sat down with it, and the more I used it, the more I marveled how well it was designed. Without a doubt, the best, most intuitive bit of gear I have ever used. I have just touched the surface, but the music I have made, is just something that I never knew I would be able to do. Also support is the best I have ever encountered, I got 2 custom FW next day when I reported some issues, I mean that just does not happen with any other company I have bought gear from. This instrument resonates with me, it has become something of an inspiration to become a better person, yes, that's what this has done, it has opened new doors and curbed my frustration levels. This is my short answer, want the long one? :P
How many layers are you using on these (amazing) programs? I took a quick look at the manual, and I noticed it recommends using 2 layers to get stereo width. Basically I'm wondering if I could use this for bass, pads and lead all at once as an all-in-one, or whether that's asking too much because you realistically need to use a couple layers each.
Yep you got it! Usually 2 layers for the main stereo sound, then one layer below for a bass, sometimes I use all 4 if its a complex patch. But I almost always use it as 2x 12 voice for stereo
I know there chalk and cheese but I have only the funds for one. 3rd wave or OB-X8. Ill get both eventually but will be a year between or more. What one first?
Uh question, if I want to add an external moog ladder filter moogerfooger or vst, can I bypass the prophet filter? I want to be able to replicate a moog one.
you can bypass the filters! but you would lose the modulation options around the filter envelope then. But yes you can run the 3rd wave in 100% digital mode.
It would nice to hear some more wavetable sounds being embraced rather than trying to have a Prophet 10 with a 3rd Wave. Not that any of that doesn't sound good of course.
I personally wouldnt sell those 2 synths! They have less modulation but they sound so unique. This is different and equally as good, but not objectively better
Clearly not a fan of the sounds the 3rd wave was designed for. However, the "VA" sounds are fantastic. btw I hate it how people say "VA". It's hybrid. Sounds great.
