If 2 evolved into 3, then it didn't become its predecessor. A predecessor is something that was prior, hence the prefix "pre". If 2 was replaced by its direct predecessor, it would have been replaced by 1. "Successor" is the word the reviewer was looking for. Love what you guys do! Keep up the good work.
One of the most confusing games. I bought Final 2 on PS4, then later bought PS5 and there the Final 2 updated to Final 3, but it still isn't the PS5 version of Final 3 which you apparently don't get a free upgrade for, but have to buy. And apparently that doesn't have all the dlc, so is all the bought dlc only for the PS4 version? My head is spinning. Just BS.
😂 Just thinking the same, trying to make sense of it all…. Insanity. Glad I stuck to my guns and never bought into the title way back after trying the demo of this rebooted messiness.
i never played any of the final games, but strangely from the footage i've seen, the first one on the ps2 looks like the most visually impressive. honestly the r-type game on ps1 even looks more impressive than these last couple. for whatever reason, the visuals just seem to get worse and worse. i much prefer the more realistic look of the ps1 and ps2 games. maybe there are more polygons on the newer games, but the art style is far superior on the older ones.
The original RType Final on PS2 will always be the last/final RType game for me. The music, the gameplay, the lore, the history (for me) ended with RType Final. RType Final 2 and RType Final 3 is just a fan service to produce another shmup game. The graphics are good but there’s no soul in those games.
You're not entirely wrong. The missions in Rtype Final 2 are simulations. Operation Last Dance in FInal would be the last recorded mission in the Lore.
I’m probably too old school but I’m still waiting for a substantial sequel to Super R-Type released on the SNES. Waiting for one to raise the bar like that one did back then.
I originally played this difficult game in the arcade back in the 80s. I agree with this review that this, so called, new version visually does not appear to be anything over what the PS4/Xbox One can support. Also, the price in today's world is too much for a vertical shooter, that does not provide much of an update to the previous version. Additionally, providing future potential, VR support is nice, but such a vertical title is not a good use of the VR platform unless they fully alter the game's perspective to 1st person.
I feel like they are treating final 2 as this live service game. i hear how they want to add all these new features and stuff which i think is cool but the actual game itself is alright at best. Not a bad game but just alright.
continuing my semi rant, if Granzella wants to treat the series or this one game like a live service even gonig to far as to make a "third" game which is just an enhanced version of of the second game they might as well make the game an MMO or something.
This developer has done such an indie "meh" job on these releases, they need to give the IP to someone who will actually do it justice and not lock it to one platform.
I think one of the biggest problems is releasing the game on the unfinished side and patching it over the year. I played the heck out of final 2 and loved it, but knew it wasn't going to be great since it was a kick starter funded game. Also I don't care for the cheap mobile looking graphics.
It's actually the same devs as the older games apparently and it's also not locked to ps. Apparently it's just on ps first because of technical reasons.
@@gokillyourselfgoogle Oh that's new. I was disappointed when i found out this was exclusive to the ps5 and even more disappointed when i found out this was just a visually enhanced final 2 with some exclusive stages. I own final 2 on steam and if this is just a timed exclusive i wonder are they gonna go the overwatch route and just replace final 2 with 3 or give 3 its own store page.
I haven't finished R-Type Final 3, but I think the level and enemy design, pacing, difficulty, soundtrack are so much better than R-Type Final 2. The "new" R-Type Final 2 stages and graphics to me were a rush job and everything so uninspiring. The remastered stages from the previous games all look and play better than the R-Type Final 2 new stages. One thing I must say is that the 3D modellers' and environmental artists' skill are outdated; just look at the ocean waves in the first stage of R-Type Final 3, it's so bad and the PS5 graphics power can handle so much more.
Sucks that this version isnt on PC. Ive looked for graphical comparisons between Final 2 on PC and FInal 3 on the PS5 but i wasnt able to find any. I heard Final 3 Evolved has RT and better lighting.
If this game came with all of the dlc that was avaliable for the last release this would be a great value. But it dosent.... I am still picking this version up since I only own the older version on the Switch and the Switch version is not so great.
@@DieselJT it looks great on ps5 and series x the switch is underpowered trash 🗑 graphics looks fantastic! And like I said the switch can't run unreal 5 so it won't be coming to it. And R-type final 3 is the best looking shmup and our fault the switch runs like doodoo
@@METALFACEDOOMXXXX If you think R-Type final is the best looking shmup, I don't know what to tell you. Have you played any Cave, Compile or Treasure game? Go play them, then come back and tell me what a good looking shmups is.

I don't care for the hub world. This is a single player game and the hub does not fit. It also does not fit with the aphetic of R-Type. The game itself is great though. Classic R-Type.
Lol, yea, im looking at their sale- 29.99 for the game... 9.99 for stage pass v2...9.99 for stage pass v3... looking at 5 dlcs for 2.09 each ... holy crap 😂 edit- oh the passes are the dlc's.... still .....
Damn...we have a PS5 but I would much rather have this on our Series X. I have R-Type Final 2- Inaugural Flight Edition on our Series X. Why would I do this you might ask? The Series X d-pad is the best control pad ever devised. I say this as a retro gamer that started playing back in 1986 with the Nes and Master System. I would take the Series X d-pad over the legendary Saturn pad, oh yes I would. Addendum- I'm not buying it again.
I have a Series X and would never trade a Saturn d pad for it lol. The pad placement sucks in comparison despite how tight and tactile it is. There are some great Saturn controllers for Xbox.
@@Slappaccino What?! The pad placement on the Series X is perfect. If fits really well with the offset sticks and real triggers. The Saturn D-pad is good (I have had one since 1995) but it just isn't as tactile as the Series X pad. The button placement is the only place where the Saturn controller still holds the crown in certain games.

You'd have to be a schmuck, to pay $50 for a side-scrolling shmups game. Even the PS4 version of RTF2 is 2 years old now & costs $40, which is extortion. The graphics are beautiful though...but at those prices, I want a 3D shooter( such as EVERSPACE & Chorus)...both of which...by the way, are MUCH cheaper in price.
This feels so much like Overwatch 2 - we love the game(s), but it's really not a new game, the iteration feels more like a software version than a real sequel. I actually liked the predatory style way better: Release the vanilla version for 50 bucks. Then, 2 years laster a new version with all the added content and call it "Delta" or "Ultimate" and demand 50 bucks again for that. Like my beloved Soul Sacrifice vs. my even more beloved Soul Sacrifice Delta.

yeah that was a confusing statement
Correct! It should be successor. I was flipping back and forth between the two games 😫
Definitely waiting for a sale on this one. For me there's just not enough to justify the price.
That enormous hangar in Final 2 already made me think there's more to come. xD

Tbh, they should have ended the series back then with either Final 1 or the Tactics spin-off series.
If there is any one genre of game that never once made me think it'd be really cool to see it in VR, it is certainly shmups.
Well... technically... there's Beat Saber.
I think Galaga had a 1st person shmup on 3ds, it was more of an on rails space shooter but was a cool concept

R-Type Delta shits all over that laggy game

I'll just keep playing R-Type Final on PCSX2...
My understanding is this version does not have all the DLC from the previous gen version!
Still having trouble accepting the $50 upgrade for this game. Hopefully a sale will help with this issue.

So can I buy the 7 new stages as dlc for the Xbox or PC version or is it also exclusive.
The stages are exclusive to the PS5 game "Evolved" for now.
The R-Type Final 3 main campaign is PS5 exclusive.
In the uk we still have not got the ps5 version yet.
An incomplete game release just like final 2. I won't be tricked again.

Isn’t this just an updated final 2? Why’d they name it final 3? It’s really annoying, just make it a different game, name it 2.5 at least
