I think this is why Astarion doesn't like Gale at first. The idea of praying for a god, any god, to save you and they just never did and then you meet a guy who was a favorite of one of the gods who ignored you... obviously it's not Gale's fault but the unfairness of that favoritism would probably be enraging.

I mean... For the setting, 200 years isn't that much. Elves live up to 700-800 years old. Not to mention there's many ways to circumvent a natural death. The rite of timeless body, Lichdom, clone spells, reincarnation...

100% yeah, that line is such a bomb drop you can't continue afterwards lol. And while it's not the same as what Astarion experienced - 200 years of suffering with no hero or god caring enough to save him - I feel like that line could've reminded Gale of how, for an entire year, his god left him to a fate genuinely worse than death (threatening possibly thousands of others too) instead of helping him with the orb before disappearing from his life - that punishment would be devastating enough for him without making him a nuke. I have a feeling he could relate to Astarion there more than he'd maybe feel comfortable with.

A lot of banter is location triggered. But it also depends who is in your party, and some party compositions are more silent than the others. And on top of that it's also a bit bugged and I've noticed a lot of esp act II and III stuff just doesn't trigger sometimes. Just make sure the setting for banter is "always" in audio tho, that's an important one
people don't shut up in act one so yeah, it's just the other acts are more buggy i think (specifically 3 and act 2 really isn't a place for much ideal conversation besides last light tbh). i've triggered some going down the stairs near the harbor and going near the train tracks (near the foundry) in act 3 off the top of my head my last two banters. I know I liked in Dragon Age Origins and 2 where they were triggered by specific locations so I could just get banter whenever I wanted and hear it all. Not sure if Baulder's Gate has triggers like that but I feel like it should somewhat.

Used her to escape and for protection, absolutely, but it seems like it would be just another "bide his time until he can win" scenario I don't know much about Shar outside of BG3 context, but most of what she offers seems like things Astarion already has more than enough of. - Removal of memories? - He can't even remember his own eye color - Learning to deal with and overcome pain and loss? - he's been flayed alive on a semi regular basis and lost everything but his mind already. His entire arc is largely about trying to stop things from being taken from him ever again. - immortality? He's a vampiric high Elf. Not exactly immortal but close enough. And it's likely a lie. Astarion also hates people who remind him of Cazador, which Shar certainly would. Manipulation and false promises and mind games. He doesn't want another master. He'd be grateful she freed him absolutely. But overall I don't think he'd buy what she's selling. So he'd just make himself useful until he could get away from her, too.
And I ship them so much that I played Origin Astarion to have those two dating. Now I'm playing Gale and he already has the vampire as romance objective!!!
Love walking around with these two and shadowheart. They had a couple of three piece dialogues early in the game. Shame that doesn’t really happen past act 1

If you're on pc, I recommend the party limit begone mod. I'm traveling with everybody right now and they're talking constantly in act 1. Heck, even without the mod you can still get banter just from having the right party. I had Wyll, Lae'zel, and Gale and they wouldn't shut up long enough even for me to level them up in the blighted village. I had to read the banter later because they continued talking in the level up screen.
I, too, have dealt with manipulative partners, so everything with the Emperor feels painfully familiar. I’m glad I’m not the only one that sees him that way.
These two were staples in my party on my first playthrough. So I heard all of these in the and then some. Astarion is such a sassy bitch sometimes, and Gale ia just like tge old man who sighs and humors him. 😂
I love the interactions between these two. My favorites are the ones that happen if you romance Gale and have them both in the party. I'm only in act 2 and Astarion has already roasted him at least 3 times
I always got the sense that Astarion admires Gale from the beginning (bc of his powerful magic). But Gale doesn’t trust Astarion until later in the adventure.

I love the interactions between these two. My favorites are the ones that happen if you romance Gale and have them both in the party. I'm only in act 2 and Astarion has already roasted him at least 3 times

I always got the sense that Astarion admires Gale from the beginning (bc of his powerful magic). But Gale doesn’t trust Astarion until later in the adventure.
