Thank you for the interview. LONIE FRISBIE visited Greenfields Baptist Church, East London South Africa in Feb 1980.Youth came from all walks of life. This young white robbed long haired guy, radiating Jesus. Gently told up to imagine our faith was put in a basketBy faith we responded to Jesus giving our all.
The gently wind entered the building and started to touch lives. It moved in waves. The glory of God was present. We shook like crazy and fell under the power of God.
Some came in as party animals and left glorious bloodvwashed and totally drunk in the Holy Ghost.
Through this man of God I was gloriousy baptisted in the Holy Spirit. I was filed with power and started to the works of Jesus. I became bold to witness.
Long story Ive never stopped serving Jesus and Im ready for all that God has for me.

I was baptized in the Holy Spirit in 73 during the Jesus movement here in South Africa. Many of us from that time are in full time ministry. Unfortunately that movement quickly went off the rails. Then came the shepherding movement with the extreme authority and control which is still so prevalent in many churches here. How I have longed and prayed for a revival like we had in the 70's, BUT please Lord, that this time it wouldn't go off the rails.

The only deliverance is from Sin by way of eating the flesh and drinking the blood of the Son of Man, for the Son of Man must be lifted up and be in the heart of the Earth 3 days abd nights. It's not demons that are the problem, it's your sin.

Thank you so much for this interview. This info was so encouraging and needed. The Lord gave me an analogy about how we want to finish. It's from 2 Kings 13:21. When the bones of Elisha were laying in a pit and a dead man was thrown into the pit too. The anointing in Elisha's bones made the other man come to life! I shared this with my kids and told them that every great servant of God will have the "cover pulled back" on their lives long after they are gone. And when their bones are available to be examined, they have a story that will tell about the servant from deep within. Live and serve with that ending in mind. May our bones be found glowing and not rotted when it is time for us to go home and be before Him.

It’s really funny when Mr. Ruttkay said that when he was told to stay away from people who speak in tongues he was incentivized to seek them out. I had a similar experience as a new believer when I joined a campus Bible study. One day I noticed another Christian group. I asked one of our leaders about them & was told those are Pentecostals. When I asked what that was He replied rather condescending that they shake, roll on the floor, & speak in tongues. The fact that he responded in an un-Christ like attitude made me curious why he found them threatening. I remember tongues as a historical event that happened to the apostles but for the first time I encountered Christians attesting that it continued. I decided to make up my own conviction by reading what the Bible claimed about this. Once I did this I came to the conclusion tongues continues today. What a surprise when I actually heard a powerful tongue spoken a couple of years later at another Bible study. Wow! It’s for real!!

I love your understanding Vlad. Praise God for you. John I love your heart and listening to your testimony. It has helped me so much to learn the testimony of Lonnie and the growth of the church. I’m learning so much. I’m 78 and at the beginning of my adult life my former husband was pastor. We wee 21 and 19 when we first pastored in a very strict denomination. He grew up in it and was leaving it inside of him. We left and pastored a Friends Mtg until 84 so missed a lot of that what was happening. We heard about it-but was far removed. In 84 we divorced. Later found out what he was doing secretly. I came to understand he walked away from Jesus because of the church which was a religious spirit. He equated Jesus as part of that. I had a vision of Jesus pouring His blood over him and Jesus told me He was cleansing him from that religious spirit. So he is coming back into the Kingdom. I praise God for that vision. I know he has my family.

I grew up in Costa Mesa. Lonnie Frisbee was a kid in my sixth grade class. We went to different schools for seventh and eighth grades, but we went to the same high school during our Freshman year, Corona Del Mar High School. I never had any classes with Lonnie, but I saw him on campus from time to time. The following year I transferred to Costa Mesa High School due to a redistricting. I assume that Lonnie got caught up in the same redistricting, but I think he transferred to Estancia High School in Costa Mesa. A few years later, I was talking to a friend of mine at school. Debbie was telling me about this guy down at the beach who was baptizing people. She told me that he claimed that he had dropped acid and saw God. She laughed as she told me that she and her friends responded that they were going to keep dropping acid until they saw God too. Then she told me that the guy's name was Lonnie Frisbee. That really shocked me because I remembered Lonnie from sixth grade. At that time I would never have guessed that Lonnie would ever be interested in religion, so it was quite a surprise.
Shortly after that I saw Lonnie again. I was out riding my motorcycle. Making a right turn from Fair Drive onto Newport Blvd, I saw him hitchhiking. I stopped and offered him a ride. He obviously didn't recognize me, and I didn't let on that I recognized him. He explained that he was on his way to a Bible study at a church. I told him that I would take him there, so he explained how to get there. We ended up at a Lutheran Church somewhere between Costa Mesa and Newport Beach city limits, off of Newport Blvd, on the side opposite of Hoag Hospital. When we got there, Lonnie invited me in for the Bible study. I stayed for the study. Chuck Smith was giving the study. I didn't know who Chuck Smith was, but at that time hardly anybody knew who Chuck Smith was. There were perhaps twenty other people there. Chuck gave an interesting study on John's Gospel.
That was the last time I saw Lonnie or Chuck. That was the beginning of the "Jesus Revolution," although at the time I had no idea that something big was just starting. For years afterwards I assumed that Lonnie was a Lutheran, and that was why he wanted a ride to the Lutheran Church. I assumed that Chuck must be the pastor of the Lutheran Church. Years later I saw a picture of Chuck and I recognized that it was him who gave the Bible study at the Lutheran Church.
Shortly after the Bible study I joined the Navy. My lottery number was 5, so it was a pretty sure thing that I would get drafted into the Army and sent to Vietnam. Joining the Navy seemed like a better option to me. So I was pretty much gone from Costa Mesa until 1972. By that time Calvary Chapel was in full swing.
And that was my subjective experience of the "Jesus Revolution." A little different from the movie.

Thank you Vlad and John for filling in some of the blanks about Lonnie and the movie Jesus Revolution. I have read Ps Greg's Laurie's book Jesus Revolution and loved it. Consequently I could not wait to see the movie. Like Ps Greg I also believe that God wants to do it again in our present context. However, as much as I loved the movie I felt confused as to why they included Ps Chuck's seeming resistance to Lonnie moving in word of knowledge and healing. I get the fact Lonnie over stepped his authority in one scene when Ps Chuck stopped him sharing a word of knowledge. That was totally the responsibility of the senior minister. But in the previous scenes we see clearly that God was shown using Lonnie in the gifts of the Spirit and healing. I just felt the subject of the gifts of the Spirit were introduced, Ps Chuck's concerns briefly seen and then the whole matter of the authenticity of the Gifts of the Spirit were left hanging without explanation. My wife and I concluded that the movie's main focus was how the Jesus movement rapidly expanded even though some of those involved in the early stages of the movement had their flaws. Hey, having been in ministry myself for over three decades I constantly remind myself of my own flaws and imperfections when reaching out to others. Thank God for the grace of God that leads us all to repentance. Thanks again Vlad and John, your video has helped me to get some context to some parts of the movie that left me hanging. In saying that I loved the film on the whole and would have said that it was one of the best if not for those scenes that needed a little more explanation or maybe not included. But how can you leave the supernatural out of a revival? The whole Jesus movement was supernatural. My prayer is, do it again Lord, do it again!! Blessings, Dave from down-under.

Thank you Pastor Vlad, for speaking truth with love. I watched a documentary about Lonnie before I saw the movie. It was so upsetting, heart wrenching, to think that no one worked with him on deliverance just seems he was like in the sea without a lifeboat during many periods of his life. The documentary has the son of Chuck, I believe, at the very end and it sounds like he thought the problem was that they should have allowed him in leadership while in homosexuality so it was not too good, from a Biblical standpoint. I am so glad he was repentant but even that was played down in the documentary. And the movie made it seem like he was never even divorced! I so appreciate you Pastor Vlad, that you tell the truth, with love. The movie was good but I don’t believe it was as balanced as it could have been nor as truthful. 😥

@@pattipolston3914 how did he get AIDS? , This man was his best friend, and looked after him in his dying days I think he would know . Is he gloating about it? No! He is rejoicing that Lonnie repented and is now in the arms of Jesus.

Read Lonnie's biography - he is very open about not living a homosexual lifestyle. He says before becoming a Christian, when he was in the free love/free sex time of the 1960's he had some homosexual behavior as well as heterosexual behavior. He also talks about being sexually assaulted during the time he was backslidden. Too many rumors and lies about him in this arena.

@@Charity-vm4bt I'm just stating facts here. I'm not "judging"...but that said we are supposed to judge a thing as sin if it is sin. Especially if the person sinning is in a Pastoral role as Lonnie was. And I'm not sure what California has to do with it. I'm in Sacramento.

When it comes to talking to people about Jesus, I've always found that those who are already practicing spirituality in some form, whether it's buddhism, mysticism, even witchcraft, are much more open and understanding, even accepting, of the message than those who have never been interested in anything. Some people are into spirituality and some aren't but all are actually spiritual beings, they just don't know it.

Agree w John that Lonnie was looking for a dad as sadly, that's what homosexual's are searching for.
The importance of the traditional family environment cannot be overly stressed & is why the enemy targets the head of households...but Greater is Jesus who's in us than the devil who's in this world.

That was my childhood in the church. Church was like that in the 70s, and it was all of us together. Church camp was all races. We never hated anyone in the alphabet community. If someone was, they were just part of us or our family. God and his son just wanted us to be kind and share his message of love and forgiveness.

I think what sometimes happens in the church today I've noticed where they're always pointing the finger that that other person needs to deal with their rejection or their bitterness which they do, I'm not denying that. But what I wanted to say was that sometimes they always say that but then really the reality is the people that offended them doesn't take responsibility and go to that person and say, "I'm sorry, I was wrong for for on perhaps how I dealt with it I could have dealt with it a different way or I could have said something differently, but go to them and love and deal with it on there and as well. Not saying that that person didn't need to deal with the rejection or the bitterness or whatever issues they may have because we all do. Again though I find that I see that a lot especially with l that always want to tell you what your issues are with condemnation behind it and not really out of a loving spirit which was supposed to have. And like the Bible says that you that is spiritual are supposed to restore such a one less you also fall into the same sins and temptations.

How can you help someone who is probably demonized in the body of Christ, but so fearful and doesn’t want to surrender to the authority of God because of bitterness and rejection. They want to control things. As if they could, but fear ( trauma) and self doubt in stopping them from moving forward in God. I need help with a loved one, and I pray for them but don’t get a real breakthrough. It’s also deeply affecting my life and ability to be free to do God’s will. I live in southern Pennsylvania. Any suggestions?
