Can you please tell me if the hour-hand is on the Hemle is usually held in place by friction and can simply be turned by hand to reset the time to a correct hour? Thanks

I got a Hermle 451-050 H movement, that has the chime sprocket off by the quarter hour.. At 15 past the hour, it tries to chime the 30 min tune, at the 30 past the hour, it starts the 45 minute chime, at 45 past the hour, it starts the top of the hour, and at the top of the hour, the 45 min past the hour chime, and it strikes the hour while it is chiming, then starts the 15 past the hour, at 10 past the hour.. How much does a replacement unit cost and instructions?

Assuming you have not bought a new movement - remove the minute hand. See the square-holed bushing in the center? That can be made to rotate using the right size screwdriver. Turn it 90 degrees and put the hand back on, verify that you have it in the right spot, adjust further as needed.

I just inherited 72 351-020 45cm in a wall clock - but the family member who owned it was having trouble with it and it hasn't been working for about six years. Winding the upper left side seems to come up against too much resistance, as if it was over-wound. (Also wound the right side which seemed OK.) I don't hear ticking, however, and the pendulum stops. Is there a straightforward way to fix it if in fact it is over-wound? I also have mechanical clock oil on hand. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Ive got a 401-003 8310 unadjusted, movement made in Germany, it has some worn pivot holes on a couple of the arbors and one of the springs has a lot of play between the arbor and the can itself I'm afraid it may not be worth repairing as I do not have the tools to do the work myself, the clock I bought on Ebay for a hundred bucks, the case is nice, wooden mantle clock, I don't know if i should bother with it or find another movement to replace the bad one, Appreciate any input you might have,

I just inherited a grandfather clock from a friend, but it’s missing the weights. The movement is a Hermle 451-050H. Any idea what size weights I would need? Thanks.

do they tend to lose time as the spring unwinds throughout the week? mine is a new hermle 340-202 and is accurate 1st and 2nd day (or close), then loses 11 secs per day then like 15 secs per day, etc. i usually rewind it at the 5th day. lost about 50 secs by then.

Yes, that happens, unless it is weight driven or a fusee then there is a power loss thru the unwinding of the mainspring. When regulating I always say let it run for a day, adjust the time, run it another day and make a adjustment. Fully wound and you are at the top of the power curve = day one or so and it quickly drops off , approximately day 2-5 the power curve flattens out somewhat, that is the best time to do your regulating, then the last day or 2 it drops off again. Of course everything depends on condition, age of oil, wear, conditions of atmosphere ect...Have fun and thanks for the comment.

thanks for the reply. i guess my NEW Hermle chiming mantel clock is normal if it is off around 1 minute by day 5 (slow). i just wind it at day 5 each time and set it ahead about 30 seconds, so it is either 30 slow or 30 fast at most across the days. i love the clock.

I purchased this course and just got done viewing it. I just wanted to let you know how helpful it was for me. I was working on a grandfather clock with the hermle 451-050 movement in it. I was having trouble with setting the chime to work properly. After viewing the course videos it became completely clear to me how the mechanism works, and it was a breeze setting it. I would highly recommend this to beginners and anyone that wants to learn more how these movements work. I have only been doing this for a year and a half. Thanks William and Bob, fantastic job and very good video compared to your other clock course.
