    Brian's innovation of using an echo device to play harmonies with himself. Freddie used this later on vocals during The Prophet Song. Both were able to do this during live performances. Truly pushing the envelope of creativity.

    OMG - Brighton Rock is in my top three Queen songs!! Love Love Love 💕💕💕
    Inspired by a 1940’s movie thriller about an ill-fated love affair starring Richard Attenborough. I love when Freddie uses falsetto for Jenny’s voice & lower for Jimmy’s voice! It’s brilliant & of course Dr. Brian May rocks that guitar solo.🎸

    The song tells the story of two young lovers named Jenny and Jimmy meeting in Brighton(in England) on a public holiday. Freddie sings and takes two parts or sides One from jimmys side and other from Jenny’s side, that’s why his voice goes higher because hes talking or singing from Jenny’s point of view. it’s Very creative really I’ve never seen this done in music especially in rock music

    Brighton is a beach town on the south coast of England - sort of like the Asbury Park/Coney Island of Britain: boardwalk, pebble beach, carnival rides, colourful lights ("illuminations"), that sort of thing; it's pretty much what passed for a fun public holiday destination here for a chunk of the 20th Century, but you'd also get gangs of Mods (a gang/subculture in the 60s) on scooters heading down there to rumble with the Rockers. The title's also a pun on "sticks of rock", multicoloured hard candy similar to what Americans would call a candy cane, that comes in rod-form and are typically sold at seaside towns, with words (often the name of the town/resort) printed/embedded in them. It's also the name of gangster novel by Graham Greene, which has been turned into movies a couple times, once with Richard Attenborough in the lead.

    The beginning is old fashion seaside town music the fun of the fair etc... The whistling is the song "I do like to be beside the seaside. " which is how Queen II album ends with Seven Seas of Ryhe.

    2:02 - "We're at a circus?" - This is the first track on the album. The previous album ended with the track "Seven Seas of Rye", which fades out with a tune often heard at a British seaside fairground - It's the nice touch the the next album fades in with fairground music.

    Fun fact: the writing and recording this song, along with Stone Cold Crazy, predates the founding of Motorhead by almost a year. So if you think about it, Brian May technically invented speed metal a year before Lemmy. ;)

    Yes it is Freddie singing, flexing his vocal chops. The guitar is so dirty, the bass is on fire and day-ammm Roger is killing those drums. This is a great song by Brian, I truly love it. Thank you for your great reaction.

      Brian never ever performed Brighton Rock as a song in his solo career, he included a guitar solo in his sets which was known as Brighton Rock Solo, because his solo part of the show stemmed from Brighton Rock

    Try listings to Queen live Killers they do this with a extended guitar solo.

  • @GilesMcRiker
    @GilesMcRiker 3 года назад +1

    This is one of Queens a heavier songs. They really could do it all. The extended guitar solo was actually originally part of another one of Brian's heaviet songs, or at least there is alternate version of that song containing the solo.
    Although I never actually saw the movie -- much less was aware of its existence-- but the song was featured quite prominently in the movie Baby Driver. It's worth checking out the clip

      I remember seeing a video on the Queen disography where the reviewer said "Sheer heart attack was the album which saw Queen leave its progressive roots and try... Show tunes".... then you see Brighton Rock and Stone Cold Crazy and wonder, what was that reviewer thinking, thats Two of the heaviest Queen songs!
