I've had the privilege to see & hear Hossam Ramzy at a Belly Dance show (The Silk Route), with Serena dancing to the drumming. I enjoyed it all hugely & it made me smile. Hossam is a very entertaining man with a great sense of humour.

I enjoy 'hand drumming' very much. I love the sound of it & I appreciate how skillful it is. I find it very hard to stay still when I hear it & it always makes me want to dance.
I listen to all types of music

@maitozues the word "Tabla" in the arabic language means "Drum" and Darbuka (or Doumbek) is the specific type of "tabla"

@maitozues In Egypt it's called tabla. Darbuka is a Turkish term. Tabla ( the Indian name ) was actually derived from a very old ( B.C. ? ) Arabic term tabl which means drum.

To me, the West does not understand hand drumming. The West would applaud this drumming if it was done with sticks, but Hossam and other musicians play by hand and fingers. I would love to hear a musical dialogue between Middle Eastern drummers, African drummers, and Japanese Tyco drummers.

He's not playing a Tabla (from India and Pakistan). He's playing a Darbuka, from Egypt and many other muslim countries

You are right, Tabla is Indian, but it's also the name widely used for this instrument in Egypt. I guess the word has travelled. Thanks for watching and commenting.

i Granot - I love your enthusiasm for drumming but I'm not sure of the point you are trying to make? What I do know is that it was only when Hossam moved to the UK and playing throughout 'The West' with 'Western' bands that his unarguable talent as a percussionist was fully recognized and celebrated. By the way, he also does an awesome set on the drum kit, but it is for his tabla playing that he is best known and loved throughout the UK and beyond.
