He and Ollie brought so much joy and laugher to the world. Stanley died 56 years ago today. It was a VERY sad day for the world. He was said that he did not deserve to be mention in the same breath as Charlie Chaplin. You are wrong Mr. Laurel. You deserve to be mention in the same breath with all the greats being one yourself. Thank you for all the laughter you left behind in all those films.

They were masters of their trade. Almost 100 years on and they're still the best comedy duo ever. What I find really sad, is that despite them making films in an era before TV and so surely their films were box office attractions, they both lived quite simple lives and were never very rich from their work, in fact they had very little relative wealth compared to entertainers of today who earn many millions for one film. Somebody made a lot of money off of them, but not themselves. They both died not poor per se, but with minimal assets as far as I'm aware. Very sad.

About thirty years ago, when we were still in war with Iraq, the religious mullahs who still rule in Iran caused us to cry every day because of the martyrs who they used to bringing them from battlefields or due to death anniversaries of the Islamic Imams, who were killed in one thousand four hundred years ago, we had to crying every day. In general, life was very sad and depressed. But at the same time, almost once in a season, we had the opportunity to smile a little while watching Laurel and Hardy.

Hamid. Thank you for your message.
I am sorry to hear of your. sad and trying times during war.
Heaven does exist and the Christian Bible tells us "all tears will be wiped away".
Jesus, the son of God is the way to Heaven. "I am the way the truth and the light"
We are separated from God by sin. Jesus took the sin away from us when he died on the cross, then came back to life.
We need to trust Jesus for our salvation, from sin and death.
If you want to go to Heaven, get a Christian Bible and read about Jesus.
In John 3.16. "For God so loved the world, that he sent his son Jesus. Whosoever believes on him, shall not perish, but have everlasting life"
We need to read the Bible and pray to learn about Jesus. We need to believe Jesus.
Jesus said "whoever comes to me, I will not turn away".
Heaven is real and Jesus wants people to believe in him, so they can go to Heaven.
      With best wishes to you.
      David.

11:20 I remember how that made me laugh when I first saw it. Stan is so obviously being winched into the air as a stunt, but it doesn't take away from the effect, it just makes it funnier!

I'am 99 yrs old.. I've only watched Stan and Laurel.. And Chaplin from 1926 upto now.. Day in day out.. I smile.for their Humour and 'I cry as I miss them.. I must add the direction and production are still world Class... In total u will never dream of a permanent production and acting like these 2 ever did .'I think they ever knew how loving and fabulous they were... Such glorious simpletons... I think Inspite of their on screen smoking or whatever.. They sure are in heaven a hundred percent for sure.. '

Infinitely funnier than the acutely embarrassing Abbot and Costello. I still see their influence today. They were beyond brilliant.

Stan Laurel was always scribbling in his little notebooks these bits of business. He was the creative genius behind the pair. Hardy just wanted to play his part and then get out on the golf course. This little bit of business from one of Stan's notebook never made it into a film but it is the essence of the delicate humor and poignancy of the team:
Babe and I are school boys.
Babe is waving is arm for the teacher
    "Teacher, please may I go?"
    "No, Oliver, you may not."
Babe squirming miserably in his seat.
I wave my hand to the teacher.
    "Yes, Stanley?"
    "PLEASE let him go!"

Laughing is good for you so just watch Stan Laurel and you can't help but laugh.
Used to watch this with my Dad when I was a nipper and we used to both be crying with laughter .
