This movie is just like a place in Ger where I worked and rode. I rea loved it there, we had all those jumps and more. It was a place that had 7 stunts, one Russian circus horse, 400 mares and a place with about 125 6 month to 2 year Olds on a lake. I lived in a castle while I was there. It was a dream come true
Love love love this movie! I've been watching it for 20 years when I became interested in hunter/jumper. I would have loved to attend a school like this with my thoroughbred, Dream. 🐴🐎
Very good job fellows throughout the 2nd patriotic longest felicitous family horseback entertaining experience week of said surfside Summer July!! Bravissimo 975% yo. Absolutely wonderful; and such brilliant footage of the horses in action!
This movie has only been released many, many years ago, on Disney VHS. Other than that, the new Corporate Disney has ignored this and many other such programs from the Wonderful World of Disney, keeping them locked up in the vault, probably because they're not profitable for a multi-billion dollar corporation to bother with. At the very least, you would think they could issue these for their Disney Movie Club (what a joke that has turned out to be) or their streaming Disney+ service. It's why when I hear these companies preaching about film preservation, I just laugh. They really don't care, and I imagine this and so many others like Gallagher, Killroy, and For the Love of Willadean remain unseen for decades. A shameful chapter in the annals of Home Video. You can forward this comment to Disney Home Video if you wish.
Thank you for posting this. I loved it as a child and only saw it maybe twice afterwards. As a rider, it was my favorite Disney show. Again, thank you so much.
I remember reading this book when I was a teen and fell in love with it. The movie was really good, but it kept out a lot of things from the book. So enjoyed this movie!
I enjoyed this film very much. Such lovely horses and with Donald Pleasance and Jean Marsh - in a minor rol-what more can you ask for. Thanks for the upload.
I saw this disney movie when I was twelve and after reading the book and writing letters to the school, at eighteen I arrived at Porlock Vale to have the most amazing experience of a lifetime. Thank you for posting. Sally Thompson Smith
I know Porlock well. We used to go camping there every year and ride at Burrowhayes (I still do when I get a chance, I was there for their 50th anniversary). I always meant to treat myself to sidesaddle lessons at Porlock Vale but then it closed down before I got round to it. My own fault but still a shame.
Thank you so much for sharing! I had this recorded on VHS when I was a kid and wore out the tape watching it so much. Wish they'd make it available again.
Loved this show. Didn’t see it in Janet Munro’s credits but luckily remembered the name! She looks like Leslie Caron. PS Jean Marsh was later on Upstairs Downstairs.
Sadly all the movies that were done for TV were all lumped together in The Magical World of Disney... it's in her credits but it's impossible to see the name of the show/ movie.
When I first moved to Southern California in 1979 I settled in the San Fernando Valley. At just nineteen I was soon busy going to school and holding down three jobs to make rent, one at a book store in Encino right on Ventura Blvd. One of our regular clients was the radiant Annette Funicello, who sadly was already ailing with the MS that would radically change her life. The bookstore staff saw plenty of celebrities from the then current and past era of Hollywood, assisting them search for their desired titles, but few stuck out in my mind as she did. She was pleasant, lovely, and utterly (for lack of a better descriptor) sweet. I will never forget speaking with her or helping her find the books she wanted.
I saw Jayne Meadows once at Dupars Restaurant which wasn't far from B. Dalton where l worked, but never husband Steve Allen. That part of the valley in general was still being used for exteriors for several network television shows still and actors and others from the entertainment industry were plentiful. It seemed that every time l phoned back home l had a new list of familiar and famous faces to share with family and friends. Quite a thrill at the time, as you might imagine.
I'm a big fan of Tommy Kirk and he said himself about Annette that no one had a bad word to say about her, and that she was lovely, he wasn't a close friend but she was always very professional and easy to work with. I can imagine that looking at her. She doesn't strike me as a primadonna or ungracious.
Chris Johnson I love them too, in fact I painted Steve Allen literally as a breadbox (I'm a surrealist artist and painted him from What's My Line) and cat versions of the panel from "What's My Feline!". I thought he was superb on that, very quick witted and surreal.
I remember the actress from the Mickey mouse club and the 2 gentleman that wrote the music for this movie along with Mary Poppins, Bedknobs and Broomsticks and Summer Magic.
A lovely film, I just love the pairing of Annette with Tommy, and though here they didn't have a full on romance and it wasn't hilarious like Merlin Jones or the Shaggy Dog, it was a very nicely made film with respect to the horses, which was considered. The guy who played Denis was great, I've never seen him before, he's very amusing and full of character, and an amazing smile, and I loved Joan always eating buns, she's such a funny character. Very enjoyable film.
I live in Brazil and I really like the old Disney movies that I watched in the cinema and the program "Disneyland", which was shown on television. Today in Brazil, few titles were released on dvd. I often watch on youtube, in English, just to miss you. I would also like to post: 1. IDA, THE OFFBEAT EAGLE 2. GRETA, THE MISFIT GREYHOUND 3. THE LEGEND OF TWO GYPSY DOGS 4. CARLO, THE SIERRA COYOTE 5. THE HIGH FLYING SPY 6. A BOY CALLED NUTHIN': (1967)RON HOWARD 7. THE WAHOO BOBCAT 8. THE 101 PROBLEMS OF HERCULES (16 9. THE SILVER FOX AND SAM DAVENPORT 10. THE TREASURE OF SAN BOSCO REEF: 11. CHICO, THE MISUNDERSTOOD COYOTE 12. CONCHO, THE COYOTE WHO WASN'T
I couldn't believe the beautiful Annette Funnicello was in that! For those that wouldn't know, one of the original Mousecateers! sp? It is hard to believe she is no longer around as well as half of those anymore. She is out surfin USA LOL.
Sneaking up on the loose horse like that was never going to work. The 'horsemasters' don't know that the horse is a prey animal and doesn't take kindly to being ambushed. If they'd taken a bucket of oats with them or some carrots it probably would have walked right over and put its nose in the halter!
This about not giving Tommy Kirk’s eyebrows own screen credit. And I feel the same way about Gregory Peck’s eyebrows. I think that, his amazing, gorgeous, dark eyebrows should win their own Oscar. That quirk of the left one in the movie Roman Holiday starring Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck made my heart ❤️ jump and the end of the movie broke 💔💔💔it. 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔 That’s the saddest end to a movie 🎥 that I’ve ever seen.
Reminds me of all the beach movies without the water. I will admit there was some good riding in the movie. At time stamp 107:20 looked like the rider was spurring his horse on just before the jump. all the rest of the riders was holding their legs straight.
I never understood why people bothered to wear hats when they didn't have a chinstrap. They are a bit pointless if they fall off before you even hit the ground.
Those early riding-caps were meant to fit closely that they didn't come off in a fall: many of them came with an elastic chin-strap that many riders didn't bother with. The peak on those hats was rigid, unlike the flexible ones on today's versions (which are often very expensive). I've still got two of the old black riding caps from way back in 1966.
@@None-zc5vg Point is though, they DID come off! People didn't bother with the elastic straps because they looked daft and were worse than useless. I know because I had one too! Today's hats are supposed to fit closely too, that's why I love the adjustable ones.
You really do have to remember when this was filmed. 60 years ago people rode VERY differently despite what modern movies made about back then show us.
Tommy Kirk and Annette Funicello R.I.P
I read this book about a thousand times when I was a horse-crazy kid.

Annette Funicello, Tommy Kirk, Janet Munro--a trifecta of Disney standard-bearers, all departed from this earth now.
All the ladies are sooo beautiful

I want to live in this movie!
Yea I had the same feeling for Swiss Family Robinson.
Annette Funnicello’s ended so sadly but she had an amazing husband who loved her so much and took such good care of her.
My favorite Disney movie. I still have the VHS.
thank you for uploading this. I loved this when I was a little girl and was so sad it wasn't on dvd.
I read an Wikipedia this was never released in theaters in the US but overseas some countries released it theatrically.

@@lisfong she was in 3 episodes of The Horsemasters according to IMDb, she was only 38 when she died of heart disease.
This takes me back to my summers in the mid-80s and Girl Scout csmp❤. I spent two summer sessions in horseback riding instruction.
Nice cast: beautiful horses.

Been madly in love with Janet Munro since I was 14. She died in 1972 from alcoholism. Very sad.
I as well. She was the main reason I watched the movie, apart from "Annette" and later the woman who'd make Upstairs, Downstairs.
6string Wannabe Wikipedia says it was a heart attack due to ischemic heart disease.
@@nhmooytis7058 it was really alcoholism: her ex-husband Ian Hendry, became another victim of the bottle.
Predictable story, but a great film for horse lovers like me

If they are so worried about losing their helmets, why don't they attach a chin strap? Helmet no good if it falls off.
Back then those helmets didn't do anything anyways. They didn't know any better or have the technology.
