The franchise shuts down and auctions off everything, even the cash registers, toliet paper dispensers and all the kitchen equipment for dirt cheap... Corporate doesn't take anything back.

While in college, I rented a mobile home. The mattress in the spare bedroom was covered in brown pee stains. I thought it would look better if I turned it over. I found out that it was already turned over.

Exactly. Lowest offers I’ve ever seen for those are around the 5k range, highest in the 40k range. That car is a steal, so long as it was cared for. Gorgeous.

That massage chair may look bad but that's the result of the "leather" peeling off it. My wife has one for her legs that looks like an automan which cost over $500. Those chairs can cost thousands new so that might be worth the cost of cleaning and restoring it. Had a couch that had that same "leather" too which is really pieces with a cloth backing.

There is also the option of buying chair covers. They are not cheap-$50-150 on Amz for [$50 chair, $150 couch for decent covers] but with three dogs, I needed them.

I went back to working at a place I hadn't been involved in for the length of another project. Lunchtime on day one one of the owners grabbed me and dragged me around to the wood store area where she presented me with a mummified ferret. She'd found it a couple of months before when they redid some flooring and had kept it for me. I was genuinely touched. It was an interesting mummy we could tell the gender & approx age and everything. (No I didn't keep it! What do you think I am, totally feral??!) The cat was sad though, cat's are people animals. It makes you wonder if they knew it was missing at all. Poor kitty.

My dad would’ve been all over that first car. He’d have bought it and restored it. Dad bought a Ford XL, new, in 1974. That car was his baby. He ran the odometer to all zeros, three times. When he died, in 2005, that car was still running, and registered. It was his first totally new car. He’d always bought used, and restored.
I'd buy that mystery box out of sheer morbid curiosity. How do I know I'd do it. Twice, years and miles apart, I did it from yard sales. The 1st time was a box of unmatched socks. Yes, a full box of socks, none matched each other... they were all clean but I washed them anyway. The 2nd time it was a couple albums labeled "my retirement after my divorce", they were full of autographed pictures. That yard sale, she pushed to sell everything fast. Now I wish I did not lose them. I looked up what they would be worth now... I could have retired on selling the few I remember already.

“Catillac” was probably supposed to be “catalytic”... thing about catalytic converters is they stop working after so much exhaust has passed through them, and that one looked like it was way past the limit!
When I was 18 I was saving up to buy a car, so I had to drive my dads second car. It was a pale yellow Cadillac that had been his dads. I was coming home from work one night after 11:30pm and for some reason even though I had the pedal to the metal, the car was barely moving! We only lived like 5 mins away, but it took me forever because the car was barely doing 10 mph. When I got to the stop sign that was 1 road away from ours, I smelled smoke, which immediately scared me! I was able to make it to the post office that was on our street, and was able to pull into the parking lot before the car completely stalled out and wouldn’t start. That’s when I realized my car was on fire! I couldn’t get out because everything locked automatically, and I was terrified! I started honking the horn repeatedly and finally our neighbors woke up and their son ran over to me and smashed the window so I could get out. By this time the whole car was engulfed with flames! It was terrifying, I was shaking and crying, but thankful I was able to get out. The fire got so big that people thought the Post Office was on fire! I also found out that it didn’t explode because I had a full tank of gas. Otherwise, I might not have made it out. We later found out that the reason it caught on fire was because the catalytic converter was plugged and that’s what started the fire. We went to see the car a couple days later and it was awful, there wasn’t much left and things were melted, it was pretty traumatic. Some of my friends gave me an emergency fire kit and when I opened it up, there was a bag of marshmallows and a stick! 😂 I can laugh about it now, but it was pretty scary to go through!!
Potato! I'm in the New York area, one of my favorite things is to look at the Craig's List "FREE" adds, some real winners!! A favorite is an add that must be a joke: "Free firewood/ Must be licensed, insured, bonded...." Picture was of some trees in a yard.
That thing did not exactly "have" stains. The WHOLE thing was brownish and the lower left seemed to show some mattress that was STILL dirty but you could see a little dirty beige.

RE: Catalytic converter - my employer has had two stolen from our delivery truck in the last year. My father-in-law lives in a senior retirement community and has a big van that he's converted inside, wrapped with military and 50's references which he takes to car shows and wins prizes and someone stole his catalytic converter last month from the senior living parking lot. Also, there's a backery here in town - I think it's the one who employs people who are developmentally delayed - and someone stole the catalytic converter from their delivery van right before the holiday season in 2020 and this after the most horrible year on record for small businesses in recent history. They couldn't make their deliveries. My boss rented a box truck both times and we somehow managed to deliver our product undamaged (our box truck is specially modified in a way we couldn't do to a rental truck to carry our product without damaging it.) Thieves make a lot of money on these things. There are metals inside that can be resold. I'm not sure how the thieves unload it because I would think that selling it online would expose you to prosecution; and I can't imagine an honest businesses would touch them with a ten foot pole. The insurance people told us the thieves could get in and out of there in seconds even though it's welded to the truck and is very heavy. And yet here that guy selling it online, bold as day.

“Catillac” was probably supposed to be “catalytic”... thing about catalytic converters is they stop working after so much exhaust has passed through them, and that one looked like it was way past the limit!

When I was 18 I was saving up to buy a car, so I had to drive my dads second car. It was a pale yellow Cadillac that had been his dads. I was coming home from work one night after 11:30pm and for some reason even though I had the pedal to the metal, the car was barely moving! We only lived like 5 mins away, but it took me forever because the car was barely doing 10 mph. When I got to the stop sign that was 1 road away from ours, I smelled smoke, which immediately scared me! I was able to make it to the post office that was on our street, and was able to pull into the parking lot before the car completely stalled out and wouldn’t start. That’s when I realized my car was on fire! I couldn’t get out because everything locked automatically, and I was terrified! I started honking the horn repeatedly and finally our neighbors woke up and their son ran over to me and smashed the window so I could get out. By this time the whole car was engulfed with flames! It was terrifying, I was shaking and crying, but thankful I was able to get out. The fire got so big that people thought the Post Office was on fire! I also found out that it didn’t explode because I had a full tank of gas. Otherwise, I might not have made it out. We later found out that the reason it caught on fire was because the catalytic converter was plugged and that’s what started the fire. We went to see the car a couple days later and it was awful, there wasn’t much left and things were melted, it was pretty traumatic. Some of my friends gave me an emergency fire kit and when I opened it up, there was a bag of marshmallows and a stick! 😂 I can laugh about it now, but it was pretty scary to go through!!

RE: Catalytic converter - my employer has had two stolen from our delivery truck in the last year. My father-in-law lives in a senior retirement community and has a big van that he's converted inside, wrapped with military and 50's references which he takes to car shows and wins prizes and someone stole his catalytic converter last month from the senior living parking lot. Also, there's a backery here in town - I think it's the one who employs people who are developmentally delayed - and someone stole the catalytic converter from their delivery van right before the holiday season in 2020 and this after the most horrible year on record for small businesses in recent history. They couldn't make their deliveries. My boss rented a box truck both times and we somehow managed to deliver our product undamaged (our box truck is specially modified in a way we couldn't do to a rental truck to carry our product without damaging it.) Thieves make a lot of money on these things. There are metals inside that can be resold. I'm not sure how the thieves unload it because I would think that selling it online would expose you to prosecution; and I can't imagine an honest businesses would touch them with a ten foot pole. The insurance people told us the thieves could get in and out of there in seconds even though it's welded to the truck and is very heavy. And yet here that guy selling it online, bold as day.

Some people steal catalytic converters from cars because this is expensive and apparently relatively easy to take out from a parked car.
