Don’t get me wrong the melting candle man would be cool but personally for me they need to replace Constance with a tiana level animatronic. The newest animatronics show that the projected faces need to be retired and removed.
Just bring back the beating heart bride! The previous version was creeper and I never liked Constance. Aside from the projection looking terrible, her monologue was always just too forced for me.
The fortune teller themed merch cart that's been outside WDW Mansion for years has always felt like it has Rolly Crump & Museum of the Weird vibes for me
I seem to remember that the Museum of the Weird was supposed to at the end of the Haunted Mansion attraction? My guess is that the shop will be themed as the museum, and there may be artifacts as set dressing placed around the shop inspired by Rolly's drawings.
Actually the whole original concept was going to be a walk-thru, along with other ideas but not being a ride. The mansion was built in 1963 and did have concrete walls in the lower level for a walk-thru (below the entrance foyer) but because the focus shifted to the 1964 NY World’s Fair it was put aside. The mansion remained for years unused, especially after Walt died, but then with the Florida project going forward they were able to do a two-for-one by designing the HM for both parks with some differences. Disneyland’s opened in 1969, Magic Kingdom’s in 1971 (but was completed in 1970).
I think it would be a nice homage to Rolly. If you read his autobiography he did an awful lot of work on the Museum of the Weird drawings and models and all they used was the "eye" wallpaper.
I agree. If they didn't want us to see it, it would not have been in the video. My guess is this is a soft kind of announcement to see how people react.
I love Rolly Crump and followed him. He loved Walt and it seems like Walt loved Rolly like a son. He was one of the absolute best imagineer's that Disney ever had, and Walt mentored Rolly, giving Rolly his big start at Disney. Rolly's art and creative ideas remain. Museum of the weird would have been an awesome addition on the other side of the art gallery inside the haunted mansion, if only that area could be widened somehow. Walt knew his stuff about people, and he knew that Rolly was an incredible talent. I like to think that every time I enter Disneyland that I am experiencing the love that Walt and his original imagineers had for the guests... they poured their hearts into the park. The trees that have grown up so beautiful, the water ways with scenic views that can transport us to different places... everything so beautiful and remaining for future generations. Thank you PPP for living your dream and making your viewers feel like part of your family. It is a joy to watch your channel. Looking forward to seeing more Chowder! Lol... just had to say it. That was so funny I laughed and laughed!
From my experience the one on the top shelf doesn’t mean too much as there were ALWAYS cool “decorations” everywhere that the imagineers kept around for inspiration. On the other hand, the one on the bench typically means It’s a current project as bench space is precious. Time will tell! ;-)
Thanks for pointing him out back in December. I was so excited when I actually saw him on the ride. It would be amazing to see a larger version of him as a regular in the Mansion. 😊 Great reporting Chris. 👏👏
@gmmeier321 the candleman in the shop or the ride? I think the ride Maybe but that's the 1st shot from the animatronic shop I've seen that Chris posted. I love Adam too by the way!
They absolutely will put it in and they need to do it. There is no way Disney didn't place every single thing in that video. It looks like it was all setup specifically for this teaser, and hopefully they release more like this.
Is it weird that I'm excited about the new gift shop. The Candle Man is cool, I hope it's real close in appearance to Rolly's original pencil drawings.
Did y'all not notice the mandalorian robotic arm that the two people were working on as well? Right in front of the candleman? What are they needed a mandalorian animatronic for?
What the actual what?!?! You’re the best Chris for spotting this! Totally missed this when I first watched. Probably because my jaw was still on the floor from seeing that Louis audio animatronic.
Where would everyone want the candle man to be placed if they could choose? My first thought was near the beginning in a dark part of the hallway where he's illuminating himself that would be so cool! Maybe in the conservatory next to the coffin or even replacing the floating candelabra?
Great catch, Chris! I wonder if instead of being on the ride if The Candle Man will be part of the decorations in the gift shop at the end of the ride. They like to decorate their gift shops with unusual props, and he would fit in there perfectly.
I think fresh baked did a video recently showcasing a permit of some sorts that said it would be adding new things into the haunted mansion unrelated to the work being done outside.
This is cool! They said they will be dropping more of these videos too so I know that was an Easter egg to what’s to come. I also really loved this video it made me feel old Disney feels and that’s what they need right now.
Hope your sharp eyes are right! I'd hate for that slender white legged figure to have just been the framework for a lanky legged bayou frog! 🐸 Will have to wait and see...!!!
Very cool video! It would be great to get a new character inside the haunted mansion after all these years. The candle man would be ideal! In my humble opinion, I think the inadvertent glimpse of the candle man prop in the workshop was strictly an accident and not planned by Disney.
Hi Chris. A permit has been filed to place ( if i remember correctly) 54 new pieces in the Mansion at a cost of $149,000.00 So one could be the Candle Man. Check it out.
To connect this with the last Provost vid -- maybe the reason Iger gave such a perfunctory answer to the question of what's coming is because HUGE things are coming and he doesn't want to let the cat out of the bag. If this is right, Candleman would just be the beginning of renovations to the HM. Here's hoping.
Another fascinating easter egg from that video is at 13 minutes and 3 seconds. Its a very quick shot of a group standing around a board covered in S.E.A. artwork. In the bottom left corner of the board is a drawing of the "S.E.A. West Coast Headquarters" and what appears to be some sort of water ride. I wonder if they are planning an entire S.E.A. land in the new Disneyland Forward expansions.
Great eye! Reviewing that shot got me so excited! It would be amazing if they expanded S.E.A. in Anaheim’s Disneyland! Can’t wait to see if this happens. Just hope I live long enough to see if this becomes part of Disneyland Forward.
Thanks to your video, I was able to see the Candle Man in the Haunted Mansion w/the Halloween overlay back in September 2023. I was able to snap some pics of it and I totally blew my sister's mind (who considers herself a Disney Uber Fan) with my knowledge of the infamous Candle Man. Thanx Chris!
Chris this is the kind of Disney lore I live for. Love your passion and giddiness for this Candle man. Here’s hoping we get him in all his glory! Great video!
I loved seeing the Candle Man during the Holiday Overlay this last fall. I wonder if that small, semi-hidden one was placed there to gauge guests reactions. Since it appeared that it got a lot of love, maybe they decided to make a larger version and plan to place it in a more prominent location as a more significant tribute to Rolly.
I saw it when i watched it, but I really think it's just an earlier stage of Davey Jones arm. You can see a more finished verson to the (viewers) left of it. The armature and pose are identical. That being said, I really do hope it is Candle Man.
Ill be honest. I fell the small candle man fits fine. It there, kinda suddle and pays tribute the the idea while the Haunted Mansion was being developeed. I dont feel that anything much bigger then that would really fit anywhere good in the ride or the story.
I would line the gift shop to be the museum of the weird with all sorts of props from the original ideas. I bet the candle man will be in the gift shop
They way Disney does things for some of the greatest imangineers hope it is going to be a full size anamtronic tribute to the great Rolly Crump. I can hope. Thanks Chris
I've got an idea for Disney with Candle Man. This idea would add realism to the prop by adding another item into the mix. I don't know if you ever heard of an Oil Rain Lamp? If not, look it up. So with all these metal wires attached to this lamp, the oil circulated to the top, then gravity feed down thru the wires, looks like water drops of rain when the oil is actually adhered to the wire so it doesn't fall off. Why not use the same concept, but apply it to the Candle Man? Attach wires to Candle Man, but have them painted white to match the color of Candle Man. What this would do is simulate the effect of how wax drips. Instead of it being wax, have it be oil drops. Maintenance on this prop would be relatively low and would be able to function all the time.
Did you see the SEA board at the end of the Imagineering video? It showed a Rocket at Disneyland Paris (Space Mountain update?) And a new group photo of new SEA members including a lady with a tiger and a muscle man
I think Disney did that on purpose. Disney has been so good on keeping things hush that they DONT want releases, and for them to "accidentally" have it in the background I don't think was an oops. Not only that, but to have a precursor in the Holiday version to see how quickly social media started buzzing on it would have been very smart for Disney to test the waters. I like it!
I don't think he's going into the Mansion... I think he's going into the gift shop. Remember that the new 'carriage house' gift shop is based on Madame Leota's fortune telling wagon, and Rolly Crump also designed that as well. What I expect is that the top of the new shop will be filled with half size versions of the relics and banners from the museum of the weird.
Didn't catch that one saw the hatbox ghost mechanical head behind him at 1:45 and what looks like maybe a madame leota mechanical head behind him at 2:17
Small one in the haunted mansion was on the Tim Burtons nightmare before Christmas. Could they be making a larger version for the nightmare before Christmas instead of the haunted mansion? Or could it be something for the haunted mansion store that they’re gonna be putting in?
Okay… this is actually one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen in my life 😂 hope to see him inside the haunted mansion!! Come on Disney! 🎉

That's what I'm thinking! The gift shop could double as the Museum of the Weird we never got!
I think a full-size Cande Man would be nightmare fuel, and we definitely need him in the Haunted Mansion!
Your going to look really silly Chris when the Candleman shows up in Small World.😁
😂😂💚💙🤣
💀
Chris, your giddyness about stuff like that is infectious! This is like the hatbox ghost all over again, i am stoked!
