The casual fans and most fans always want a strong personality. DJ didn't fully open up until recently. Besides, the casual fans don't quite understand the technical aspects of MMA.

@@Doehini Facts but that's only the case in MMA and not boxing because they have always had big personalities since back in the days. DJ should have exploited the big platform he got to the fullest considering all of his 15+ title fight wins.
We care about The Big dawgs. This is just reality of a small human being. No matter how skill they are. The masses do not care to watch small people fight. Its just unpleasing to the eyes. I watched him catch that flying armbar live with a few seconds left in the fight. And i didn't even care. Had that been a taller man I would have lost my mind due to the difficulty of that transition

After Anderson Silva came Demetrious Johnson. They both outclassed their opponents to the point it was embarressing. Dudes definitely in my top 5 and ive been watching since late 90s. Glad to see him healthy and still active. Thats a testament to how little damage he received from his opponents lol

Also, thinking through some of the names, some of them stuck in there too long and destroyed their legacy, but my favorite fighters growing up were wanderlei silva, Anderson silva, gsp, bj penn, Matt Hughes, but as time went on Jose Aldo, DJ, Justin gathje
Alot of those aren't event considered the best stats wise, but they always put on entertaining shows
Yeah the thing is that imagine someone trying to put hands on D.J on the street....dude is too fast, lol...alot of other mma fighters would just run headfirst right into someone's knife
gsp is #1 based on accomplishments/dominance. dj is held back because of his opponents. It sucks because it's not his fault. Jones #2.
@tgo007 gsp has grease gate and jbj has been caught cheating a couple of times, d.j is as clean as they come and he's still beating top dogs outside the ufc

If DJ had shown his personality more during his UFC days like he has done recently or the past two years, he could have been the face of MMA. Anyway, gotta appreciate his technical abilities, which makes him Einstein of MMA.
He did show it but people weren't digging it.
DJ has tons of personality. It's just because he wasn't doing all those cringey callouts /trash talking that everyone does on the mic nowadays. Plus DJ never really had a rival or someone to really challenge him in his division to make it interesting
His lack of personality wasnt the biggest problem. Sure loudmouths draw more attention but it was mostly the lack of competition and the fact that he is a flyweight. Out off all the guys he fought Cejudo is the only one people even know by name (forgot about Cruz, mb) and with his lack off size dominating like that simply isnt interesting to the fans. In a higher weightclass fans can at least look forward to a violent spectacle and big knockouts but DJ just technically outclassed whoever the ufc put infront of him and people knew it would happen befor it did. At his peak even Mike Tysons promoters ran into that problem. How do you sell a fight when people already know the outcome?
He's always been like this, but it just didn't really attract to the fight fans at the time. People barely watched the flyweight division during DJ's dominance

Learning pace and to critically strike is something I learnt from boxing. Precision I learnt from Muay Thai. Weight balancing I learnt from wrestling. Anatomy I learnt from jiu Jitsu. It’s very interesting what each can teach.
