I might just get this game only for this character's sake. I have no idea what to expect though.
Its a team-based fighting game similar to the Marvel vs. Capcom series but with a 1930's aesthetic, fantasy elements, and a weird sense of humor.
And I recently realized his real name is Birdland, as in the song by one of the most influential jazz bands ever
If I do get this game I'm absolutely maining Big Band

The use of Strum's Theme and the Black Hole Super Power was a phenomenal touch, especially given the contrast between his look and Big Band's. Makes me happy that those games haven't been forgotten.
Thank MikeZ and the rest of the Skullgirls team for including the Sturm color palette! The first time I saw it I knew I had to find a way to fit it into one of my videos. Sturm's theme is one of my favorites.
Absolutely incredible guide. After you used the Dedede and Q themes for their palettes I was like "Ohhh man he better use Sturm's theme" and you didn't disappoint.

A little thing you forgot to mention with big band's level 5 super, it uses up the wall bounce and can easily combo into an even more devastating combo to easily 1combo ko opponents ;P
And you can play evangelion theme

If you can use his bagpipes thing right before the 12 hit combo shown at 13:00, you can turn that 12 hit combo that does 6k damage into a 25 hit combo that does about 7.5k.

So much better than most of the guides I've seen so far, because I want info on the decision making behind using each move, and worry about putting combos together later when I can play some neutral.
Also liked seeing the moves you showcased being used in the examples/demo scenarios as the video went on.

+Nigel Joshua Orbe Big Band also has Big the Cat, Robocop, and a Big O reference pallette as well. Every character has references to shows and stuff in their color palletes. Get this game if you like great animation and a VERY easy to learn, hard to master game

Great video. I'm new to fighting games in general and I decided to pick Big Band to main because his design looked awesome to me, I have some problems with pulling off/remembering the special moves, but this video still helps

Thanks, this helps out a bunch. Big Band is definitely my favorite fighter and I want to get good at him. This helped to explain his moves in more detail than his actual tutorial section. Now I just have to get used to using bagpipe blues and practice combos.

this character was literally made for me, huge jazz lover (my nick says it all), used to main Q in street fighter, love a lot of neutral based characters, character is full of jazz references, so cool

Skullgirls is my first fighting game I ever played and this tutorial really helped me figuring out the right use of best boi giant tuba man here :3 Managed to get Filia down to 7817 from 15500 HP with the combo at 13:54. Best and hardest combo I did so far, slowly but surely getting better at this game.

Finally decided to actually learn the game, thanks for such a detailed guide. Big Band is my favorite character and feel like this will be a big help.
I'm returning to this game with my personal fine toothed comb. His Take the A train HK has 3 hits of armour. It's handy for when use the Emergency Brake to get in safely. His lv5 breaks armour except Sehkmet.
Oh god you have all the references on point even a tune from Advance Wars when you had the Sturm skin on

I love big band (especially the amazing King Dedede skin) and most of his moves are pretty easy to get the hang of, EXCEPT BAGPIPE BLUES GOD THAT'S A PAIN TO USE

You don't have to shake the stick for Beat Extend. You can also alternate LP and HP, which I think is much easier.

I know that you can combo a raw Super Sonic Jazz into a Strike Up The Band, into I'm pretty sure another Super Sonic Jazz, which does a ton of damage
Awesome video man, just wondering, after doing the j.LK > j.MK air in the first intermediate combo, how do you manage to land so close to filia for the follow up? I always end up missing the cr.LP completely or not finishing in range of the s.HK. And thanks for the guide, it's amazing help for fighting game beginners such as myself.
Its all in the timing. When you do s.LK > s.MK, j.LK > j.MK you delay slightly between each hit.
Jason Slade I was also having trouble with this combo, now that I saw this comment I've nearly got it down, you might want to throw a caption into the video if you can, it really helps to know. This video helped me a lot btw

1:01 I just noticed that big band footstep sync with background music.
After so many years I arrived here ... My question in relation to Big Band is: How fast cargo to generate a Take the A Train or the Brass Knuckles? Whenever I try the Big Band, I end up with a normal attack.
Its about half a second. Keep in mind you can hold the direction to 'charge' while doing other actions. Attacking, jumping, even during the round-start intro screen.

Big band is fun, would highly suggest picking him up for multiple reasons
I like his damage output, for example I have this one combo that kills at full health in a 1v3, it's not practical since it requires specific spacing and 5 meter but it's fun when it works

one of the few characters in the game that has an unblockable attack :L yeah, thats right, all you have to do is occasionally mix in a Hgiant step, and if they get hit by the pedal its unblockable

course you could always giant step and cymbal clash until they die from chip damage, if they actually come after you you get a free super on them
