real good point you talk about We've gotten used to powerful cars, and it's the same with fitness. A well-built body from 30 years ago that looked amazing in movies back then now seems ordinary because there's a large number of people who go to the gym and look great. And with cars, besides power, there's another issue...comfort. Sports cars have become so well soundproofed that you don't even feel like you have over 500 horsepower under the hood. In the '70s Porsches and Jaguars you mentioned, you could hear every component of the car. Now, in an M5 or AMG GT, it's perfect, you even get seat massages. So sporty, right? XDD
I don't think the reason movie starts from back in the day seems ordinary now is because more people work out, as much as it's almost every Hollywood actor now using some form of steroids, although the end result is much the same effect. A great example of this is to compare Pierce Brosnan's and Daniel Craig's iterations of James Bond. In much the same vain, cars have been taking on steroids for quite a lot of years, to the point where anything with less than 300bhp is often considered 'regular traffic'. The hyper-individualism that's so rampant in society today, where everyone thinks they have to be "the star of their own movie" in turn also leads us to try and emulate what we see on the big screen, be that increasingly fast and expensive cars or unnaturally obtainable bodies.
In '93 I drove a 75 hp Mitsubishi, '99 a 90 hp Audi, 2002 a 103 hp Renault, 2005 a 113 hp Mitsubishi, in 2008 a 192 hp Toyota, and since 2014 a 260 hp Volvo. So yes, numbers have gone up a bit.

Well, unless you are driving a 650 hp ev or you’re VERY slow, nothing, ice engine response is not instantaneous, especially in turbocharged engines which represent most of the vehicles, at least in Europe, so if you accidentally press the gas pedal more than you should for a split second the turbine will start spinning faster but you will not receive the power boost unless you’re so slow that you don’t even realize what you’re doing and you keep the foot on the gas. Also, the pedal response is not linear, it looks more like an exponential curve so pressing the pedal a bit more will not make a big difference. In order to get a significant power boost, you have to press the pedal a lot and for a bit longer than just an accidental “stomp”. I personally daily drive a 340 hp car and it’s impossible to end up in a crash starting from a situation like the one you describe
@ I wouldn’t go that far in the motor power.. I would argue that in a plugin hybrid car and EV with more than 400 hp my example would still stand if the car system would fail to adapt the driver gas pedal input to one of that driving situations
@@marcolattuada5125yeah I drive a 370 hp M2 and it’s no more difficult or frankly different than my 155 hp Mazda lol in fact the 500 hp M4 I drove needed more throttle to move than both.
I know you mentioned the CX-5 having 250hp, but its really an outlier. I have one, but in Australia where the CX-5 is wildly popular and is basically everywhere, no one has the 2.5L turbo trim, so while the options FOR cars are getting more powerful, the CX-5's number is definitely an outlier since I barely see that trim spec. I know the statistics may be different in America or Europe, but in Australia we have A LOT of them and not many have the 2.5L turbo. Also, I would like to point out that some economy cars which had V6's as a fun, spicy option have been dropped due to regulation and there fun amounts of power, and it kind of has me devastated.
So that's why I'm being seeing so many cars just speed through my Civic 2015, my car literally can't keep up with them even though they to the red line 2 sec before me.
A lotta unsuspecting people have dealt with this, me included. Though I got smoked by an SUV that pushed 1200 horsepower and was built, bit different but quite embarrassing 🤣
@Torkyo4ASpin Hurry up and wait. But thankfully my S gear still work so I can still catch up when entering the highway. Especially the one that go up hill. I will keep driving the civic until the end of time. I trust mine car more than any other car.
Its good that normal cars are fast because it forces sports car manufacturers to actually differentiate in other ways. They have to focus on how the car feels. We now know power isnt everything
That is why the Miata or GT86 are loved by their owners and dunked by their haters People like to compare those to something like a Camry, even though is the latter one has grown in so much power compared to older models
And here we are in Europe where the most popular cars are stuff like Pandas and Fiestas with barely 100bhp or more. Truth is, most cars are still between around 80-150bhp since any less it will lack power on highways, and any more its fuel consumption will suffer escpecially urban fuel consumption, and also beyond the price reach of many that simply want something to go places.
talk about how we need more analog inside car interiors 😭 Lexus was one of the few who had the no screen options and I see they’re new ones are adding less effort. I see it in the gauge it’s not the LFA inspired one anymore in some newer models 😅
I have a BMW E46 330 Ci. Its 3 liter 6 cylinder engine produces 230 HP, which is enough for any situation. Even better, if you'll try to drag race the car, you wanna have good tires, cause to my surprise even such "small" amount of power can easily make the rear lose traction and now you're making a slow start with burnout. My father owns a VW Golf Sportsvan with 1.4 TSI petrol engine, which produces around 125-150 HP (not quite sure the exact modification of the engine). Again, its performance is absolutely adequate for any situation on the road. The only performance issue it has, its 7 speed robotic gearbox - it can be very slow in normal mode. In sports mode it works good. I have a feeling that if governments would come up with actually good eco-standards and manufactures wouldn't start the war of who makes the largest SUV, maybe car emissions wouldn't become such huge problem. By "good eco-standards", I mean the ones that encourage car companies to build normal sized lighter vehicles. One of the reasons why all of them produce SUVs today, is because its actually easier to pass emission testing for a bigger car then for a small one, which is just crazy.
@@ReasonX3 I have a 2019 Mercedes Benz e class 220d with only an humble 197 hp (humble in today’s standards) that I bought last year and I think is more than enough for my daily needs. I never felt slow on the road. I still own my first car a 1.2 eco flex opel corsa d from 2011 with only 84 hp and I still think it is good enough if you shift it correctly although the car structure gets turbulent when it gets past the 120km/h speeds and the car is not very economical in its petrol consumption hence why I bought the diesel Mercedes
Power to weight is forever the key Countless videos of 700+ bmws and GTR's getting walked by a mini thats got half the horsepower, and weight Plus you can still use the full engine on an open road
I think a huge part of it isn’t necessarily that they’re just more powerful, I think it’s just as much or even more so how the cars put the power to the road with awd and stability control etc yeah they have more power but they’re heavier than the old cars too
Car brands need to make reliable cars more. Wait. They are business, of course they will keep making craphole quality to keep people buying the new ones
@HighSp33d-r3d lmao no hate Its a thing me an torkyo started a few vids back I say Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI GSR Tommi Mäkinen Edition on every video now
People often ignore how much have tyre and suspension (and brake) tech advanced and how much it has meant for cornering and accelerarion, even for top speed. We don't even have to go that far back; the Veyron's tyres would last just a few minutes going 400 kph, and now we have a Chiron comfy at 489 kph, just some years later. And of course, electronics. Today you can make a 2 ton toaster go faster 0-60 than the fastest supercars of the 90's, and that's mad. People don't understand that they don't need a million hp to go to work and get the groceries. A 100hp (and less) will get you anywhere and it's even more than enough to get yourself killed. Modern driving aids have turned the general public numb and ignorant to what a fast car means. This way we have things happen like with the F40's and Carrera GT's, 'not that powerful' by today's standards, but way more difficult and delicate to drive than a 1500hp Bugatti because they lack a few electrinic aids.
I do worry though because the power will continue going up with electric cars. I dont worry about the power, I worry about who's hands that power is about to fall into
@@GraveUypo I tried using it as an example on how people love to say it’s slow by todays standard and back than people were like “well for the same price I can buy this car that has more HP” and the top gear guy said the car is just a diff driving experience compared to the comp. not sure if that made sense
I cant wait to drive a car with over 500hp, i wonder how it feels, so far ive been enjoying driving my slow car fast, its manual too so its exciting stuff
Hyundai Elantra N or N-line is a rocket when you drive it correctly,i could do 80 in about 6 seconds, but im staying in the power band because of the paddle shifters,i just need the brakes to stop it when its time to stop 🤝🤔
Back when technology wasn’t so advanced, you can feel every bit of the old sports cars’ personality and charisma. Moreover, back then supercar makers focused more on top speed rather than acceleration. 400HP back then always meant 186MPH+ ( 300KM/H+ ) Nowadays, many sports cars have assists, comfort, short gear ratio, which makes mastering and taming them no longer a challenge, as well as the loss of characters. And it all started with the GTR R35 2007
I think there's 2 simple reasons. The standard of speed is always going up hence why all cars are getting faster. 2nd reason imo is the fact that weight on cars keeps going up due to safety regulations and such, hence companies add more power to counter the weight
"About half of all listed EVs can accellerate from 0 to 60 mph in under 4.5 seconds" -InsideEVs Electric cars' instant torque probably really helps, but I wouldn't know. I just like EVs and I hope that they're a part of the "Fast new cars" thing
You can’t forget to mention how much tire technology has advanced the past couple of decades just look at the porche carrera Nurburgring time with new tires was 16 seconds quicker than with the original tires

@@marcolattuada5125yeah I drive a 370 hp M2 and it’s no more difficult or frankly different than my 155 hp Mazda lol in fact the 500 hp M4 I drove needed more throttle to move than both.
You're saying that as if pressing accelerator pedal too much in a parking lot even in a 50bhp car won't cause a crash
@@GewelReal I didn’t say otherwise, I merely said to imagine the impact in a 400+ hp car would cause in those situations

Really? Where I live thats pretty much the go to trim, because its so much smoother and more powerful. Thats pretty interesting
Yeah my family had a turbo and it’s a night and day difference from the NA. Like an economy car vs an entry level sports SUV.
@@Torkyo4ASpinin australia only the GT SP and Akera trims have it as an upgrade, and not many of them are out on the road.
I'm gonna say one thing about going the speed limit. At most, you're using 30-40 hp when going constant highway speed.
Your video output speed is amazing
Doing my best to keep y'all entertained 🤣🤣
That is why the Miata or GT86 are loved by their owners and dunked by their haters
People like to compare those to something like a Camry, even though is the latter one has grown in so much power compared to older models
Who thinks 0-60 in 5 seconds is normal? Damn i feel like thats very quick
It's fast in a vacuum, but in modern times it's extremely standard. A 400 cc motorcycle has been doing that since the 2000s.
Power to weight is forever the key
Countless videos of 700+ bmws and GTR's getting walked by a mini thats got half the horsepower, and weight
Plus you can still use the full engine on an open road
3:15 This phenomenon is known as “circling the drain”
"why you come fast?"
I dream of driving a powerful car, but for now I'm already having tons of fun with my 75hp shitbox haha
🤣🤣

Bruh that M5 really fell for the dollar 😂
I dont worry about the power, I worry about who's hands that power is about to fall into
@Torkyo4ASpin in the hands of people who don't even know what means their car to be FWD/RWD/AWD (know a few of them)...
Gearing, vvt, better turbo tuning, and fuel injection. Thats what ill chock it up to
2:40 Nahhh bro I'm dying hahaha
The answer is bragging rights, no one needs that much power no matter how you try to justify yourself
Very Underrated channel
Engineers are obsessed with pushing the limits, they are speedrunners
Modern cars are sure fast at the same time they have started getting boring and less lively. Reason why I agree old is good.
If you consider though, I'm sure guys in the 50's were saying this about new cars compared to the racecars/ sportscars of the 20's or 30's
Wow you have grown a lot ever since I watched your first videos
I do hope the video quality has also grown 😂
a fun driving experience with some speed is the way to go not HP which many are obsessed with now a days
sort of like the top gear guy said with the LFA
lfa is a fraking 550hp supercar. what you should be using as an example if the golf mk1 or an mx5
@@GraveUypo I tried using it as an example on how people love to say it’s slow by todays standard and back than people were like “well for the same price I can buy this car that has more HP” and the top gear guy said the car is just a diff driving experience compared to the comp. not sure if that made sense
Engines don't have to work harder, they are allowed to flex the use of their power
I always say if you live where it’s dense you don’t need more then 350 HP
This is what happens as things improve over time. Nothing surprising.
Congrats on 10K 🎉
Thank you my friend truly!!
I cant wait to drive a car with over 500hp, i wonder how it feels, so far ive been enjoying driving my slow car fast, its manual too so its exciting stuff

We miss the era when people spend millions to their cars to go 300kmh and feels so proud,
Hyundai Elantra N or N-line is a rocket when you drive it correctly,i could do 80 in about 6 seconds, but im staying in the power band because of the paddle shifters,i just need the brakes to stop it when its time to stop 🤝🤔
Elantra N is amazing bro Hyundai's N division in general is really really good
I must be a nerd because my 370 hp f87 still feels pretty quick to me 🤷🏻♂️
just the perfect video for my dinner ❤
Back when technology wasn’t so advanced, you can feel every bit of the old sports cars’ personality and charisma. Moreover, back then supercar makers focused more on top speed rather than acceleration. 400HP back then always meant 186MPH+ ( 300KM/H+ )
Nowadays, many sports cars have assists, comfort, short gear ratio, which makes mastering and taming them no longer a challenge, as well as the loss of characters.
And it all started with the GTR R35 2007
dont need more than 90hp to have fun
We live in Germany and have streets with no speed limits and are one of the biggest car countries. It's part of our culture to be fast😎
Bro upload faster than those cars

That shit actually funny the Chinese company crash out so bad they straight up 6 x the horsepower

I don’t know why people like to complain so much about new cars. Cars are kinda badass today.
I dont think I complained even once here, just asked a question which i thought was interesting lol
Good news!…Torkyo posted another video.
🤣
I think there's 2 simple reasons. The standard of speed is always going up hence why all cars are getting faster. 2nd reason imo is the fact that weight on cars keeps going up due to safety regulations and such, hence companies add more power to counter the weight
bro i see that jetour all i time i always think its a land rover 😭

"About half of all listed EVs can accellerate from 0 to 60 mph in under 4.5 seconds" -InsideEVs
Electric cars' instant torque probably really helps, but I wouldn't know. I just like EVs and I hope that they're a part of the "Fast new cars" thing
Well, do you expect them to become slower? 😂
Sedans and SUVs nowadays: supercars? what's that?
6:00 I live on the Autobahn😂
WTF IS A SPEED LIMIT 🏎️🏎️🏎️🏎️🏎️🏎️🏎️🏎️🏎️🏎️🔥🔥🏎️❗️🔥🔥❗️🔥🔥❗️🏎️🔥🔥❗️🔥
0 - 60mph in less than 8 seconds is pointless for a car driven on public roads.
Back in the days small sedans weight like 1500kg and had 150hp nie they weight 1800kg gut also have over 500hp
You can’t forget to mention how much tire technology has advanced the past couple of decades just look at the porche carrera Nurburgring time with new tires was 16 seconds quicker than with the original tires
But it was 50 years ago!
Why not
