I had never watched Star Wars so when I experienced it for the first time with Mandalorian, it felt so familiar because I was a huge FF12 fan as a kid. The comparisons aren’t for naught.
Star Wars EP 1 was probably a bigger influence. And just as for that movie, a medley if mediterranean architecture styles, like ottoman/turkish/byzantean, venetian, greek etc. styles, is the theme. The style is artistically amplified/overdrawn and mixed with some sci fi and art deco elements.
@@Poppyseednj Believe it or not, it actually is. According to the soundtrack credits, Square hired 2 orchestras rounding out to about 80 musicians. The problem is that they blew most of the budget on strings and had very few brass and woodwind players. They added synth to help round out the sound difference, and that's why some of it still has a digital sound to a degree.
Rabanastre always stirs up my imagination something fierce. It's probably among my top towns in an RPG ever. Despite the extreme fantasy setting, it feels like it could be a real place, and even though it feels much larger than you see of it, the game gives you enough access to its various areas that it never feels limited (compared to maybe Archadia). And the soundtrack!!
The world building of ff12 is top notch. The aesthetics and visual designs of the cities and towns is also really striking and unique. The designs for Nalbina Fortress, Rabanastre city gates, Bhujerba, etc. are some of the most unique and creative I've ever seen. Its like if Star Wars and Arabian architecture had a love child. I also love the details and character designs and clothing. The Rabanastre characters wear skimpy clothing cuz of the desert heat, and many of them have browner skin or a slight tan. Meanwhile the Archadians are covered in head to toe, and as they live in a cold coastal region, and they're paler. Also notice how the Bhujerba guards wear more visors and blinders, as they live in a windy city in the sky. I could go on but yeah, the aesthetics and attention to detail in this game are incredible.
I remember as a kid exploring FF12's world at the end and just geeking over the tiny details all over the cities. Its genuinely one of those times where I wanted to inhabit the game's reality.
I played this game back when it was out por PS2. I loved every second of it, the music, the characters, the scenarios, the story and the sub and side quests. Just like you it is my first Final Fantasy and one of the first games that I played
My favourite final fantasy, I never played 9 but know the story well second hand. For me I love the characters, locations and just in general the entire mood of the game- from the secrets, to the size. Amazing.

This is one of the of my most cherished songs I will listen in my life, I just know it. An oh boy did it stood the pass of time. so nostalgic and powerful.
Out of all ff installments, this city has got to be one of the best when it comes to the feel of an rpg city; The music, the ambiance, population volume, the art direction it all works cohesively and leaves this lasting impression of an urbanized fantasy feel. I wish SE returns to Ivalice one day.
I am playing this game currently -- second time trying to finish it. One aspect that has stood out the most about it for me is the OST - I love this piece particularly. The world of Ivalice is so lived in and the music really helps accomplish that feeling
I do like the music here and I appreciate the uploader... but is there not a playlist anywhere with the shorter (actual length) versions? I like my playlist to change at the 5 minute mark at the most c_c
The text and style in this game was like a mixture of Indian 🇮🇳 & Japanese 🇯🇵 sooo beautiful. Had the whole package I'm very proud to have played this masterpiece
Hard to disagree, but what I liked about FF7 was sometimes the option to ask various things to some NPCs or to have multiple answers, even if they were meaningless dialogs. In Rabanastre those are just monologues, it's a bit soulless approach in my opinion.
This is my favourite Final Fantasy and I love the ost, but I'm not a fan of this remastered version. It feels like all the songs are missing the powerful highs of the original soundtrack and you really miss them when you hear the music in battles. Luckily the game comes with 3 ost options so there is something for everyone.
I love ff12s architecture so much. I wish there's a video where an architect dissects the architecture.

It might still be MIDI, or a mixture of MIDI and some live instruments. You’d be shocked at what software can do these days
