Hi John. If you want the better satin feel on the neck just lightly knock the gloss back with some 0000 wire wool until you get your desired finish. Simple, safe and so effective. It's something I do with all guitars and you would think it's factory finished.
While my HB35plus Cherry is all glossy and shimmering, there is a restraint to this LC H7 in that burst. At the price, it should be that much better and it sounds sweet and creamy. This is for those with deeper pockets than mine as my guitar came in at around $400 CAD all in while this would set me back $900 CAD. Still, that H7 is a lovely thing and shows its qualities very well.
I use the green scotchbrite pads on the back of poly coated necks. They feel like satin afterwards. Use some masking tape on either end of the neck in order to get a nice, sharp look.
Glad to see you have firmly joined the Sire revolution John. I started in March 2015 with the first of my many Sire Marcus Millar bass guitars and now have the L7 & the S7. I'd buy the H7 but I already have a Sheraton II and an Ibanez AS73rgw so maybe I'd better not. Looking forward to you getting the white T7 model that blew away Gutaristas.
Loving my H7, so well made and the tone knocks most rival at similar price and into 4 figures out of the water. My only comment is that Sire don’t make a semi hard gig bag for it.
Looks great John. I think they've got that headstock design just right, to my taste, not too simple, or too complex. I've got an S7 and the quality is great. Also got an HB35+ in cherry. It's great, but you're right, it's the little things. For example the tuners are not that smooth, they can be changed of course, But the S7 doesn't need any upgrades, & I'm guessing the H7 will be the same. Looking forward to the full review.
John, you're a big guy and so am I. I recently got a 335 and I have a hard time getting my hand to the frets above the neck joint without flattening my hand out in an uncomfortable way. Just wondering if you have experienced that with this guitar.
As a huge fan of semi hollow and hollow bodied guitars, I have to say the Sire Larry Carlton is a lovely option, and one which I certainly considered investing in. It looks and sounds great John. I recently bought the Epiphone " Inspired By Gibson " ES 335 ( in the Vintage Sunburst ) and it is an astounding guitar at roughly the same price as the Sire. I also bought an Epiphone Casino in Vintage Sunburst, an Epiphone Casino in Worn Olive Drab and a wee Epiphone Casino Coupe in Vintage Sunburst ( all three are sensational guitars - the Casino has always been a huge favourite of mine - I had one years ago but, regrettably sold it in times of need ) The new 2020 crafted in China models are superb though, I have been massively impressed by the quality level. You should keep that Larry Carlton John. It suits you very well brother. ...... it's only cosmetic, and I know, from all the hugely positive reviews, that the Harley Benton HB 35 Plus must be one hell of a guitar ( especially for the money ) but, personally, ( so no offence intended ) I just can't get past those " F " holes. They spoil it for me ( I know, I know lol ) The " F " holes on the Sire are beautiful :) Hope to catch tomorrow's live stream at Beer O'Clock !
I had few mins waiting for the good lady coming back to the car from the shops and Joe Walsh's lifes been good came on any chance you could break down the solo, is it a solo or a whole instrument section in the middle of the song puzzled me a bit it sounds like there is a few guitars going on at the same time ?
Always interested in semi hollow guitars but the one thing which has stopped me pursuing this one is the extremely narrow nut---just over 40mm I believe. How do you find it?
The neck is the best thing about the guitar. Extremely comfortable, even for my massive paws. As for narrow, I've just measured the nut width at 42mm. Pretty normal in my experience.
Yup looks like a 335 & sounds like a semi-hollow.. So what? But close to $1,000.00 with tax and shipping. one word ... "NOPE"! . Harley Benton at about half the price. No contest. With minor tweaking and setup. The H.B. is probably a better guitar all around guitar The HB even has push pull pick up splitter knobs. Keep your Carlton I'm still buying the H.B. It always amazes me when folks think a name alone will make something better? No matter where it is made; or what it's made of, The name itself will make it ohhh sooo good. Not Saying that's you; J.R. Just some folks Myself I quit drinking the high end guitar KoolAid years ago. Just Say'in Peace Out
I paid £499 for mine delivered. The HB35+ is a great guitar. I owned one & only sold it to pay a vets bill when my dog got poorly. I bought this because I was impressed by the S7 (£430 & it plays like a two grand Fender Custom Shop Strat). Hence I was curious about how this one would shape up. For me it's a bit easier, I'll admit... I can claim it back against tax and I'll earn money back on it from the RUclips revenue it earns me. If I'd had to pay the kind of prices you quoted, I'd probably have given it a miss.
@@JRobsonGuitar Understood Boss, I'm not knocking it. You got a very good deal. Even if you preferred a different finish color? That's cool. The price I get for that Carelton guitar; is $650.00+ Before tax and shipping. The H.B. Is $370.00 delivered, When last I checked. It's been a month or two. So for me comparing these 2 guitars? it's a no brainer for me; The Carleton just doesn't have enough more going for it (except maybe resale) over the H.B.to justify the cost.. No big deal just an opinion, From someone who doesn't count anyway/ Peace Out
We all hope you are well to John
Good post John! I bought today, Feb 8, a new red Sire H7 at Guitar Center here in Hollywood California! I love my Larry Carlton Sire H7!

John,
I was hoping for some Steely Dan tunes😎
You need to try the Larry Carlton Tele 👌👍
Just bought this Sire H7 in the cherry finish and I love it. I agree John. It's the details that Sire got right.
It really does sound good. Very impressive clean up on the controls. Great demo John.
Lovely John. A definite keeper

you need some new unboxing trousers 😄
Sounds good John. I think that colour is close to what Larry Carlton had on his original 335 so I guess that why they didn’t do a tobacco sunburst.
They do a darker burst but that one wasn't in the sale 😀👍

are you keeping this one John. It seemed very at home in your hands
Will there be a T7 unboxing?
Can't rule it out 👍
@@JRobsonGuitar I bet you're gassing. Wait for a decent B stock on Thomann,
1 year on, do you still have it? I bought the P90 version yesterday of the same colour, not gigged it yet.
Sounds might fine in your capable hands.
...at least you can actually see the fret markers...unlike the S7 which can virtually disappear in some lights...
Just borrow one of your lasses stockings for the fret end test, I’m sure she won’t mind. 🤣

Just finished doing a Joe Walsh solo. Not that one though, I'm afraid. Never mind, I'll add it to the list 👍
T7 next???
Not next... But soon 👍
Always interested in semi hollow guitars but the one thing which has stopped me pursuing this one is the extremely narrow nut---just over 40mm I believe. How do you find it?
It's not something that bothers me. I seem to be able to adjust to that of thing pretty easily.
This is the kind of guitar i m gonna buy once i get old enogh to start wearing a fedora :)
What do you think of the nut width.. do you not find it little too narrow… especially when trying to finger pick chords cleanly…
It is narrow, but not anything I can't adjust to 👍
I cant help it but I see it as the Sir Larry Grayson sounds the biz though
Shut that door! 🤣👍
@@JRobsonGuitar my thoughts too, Everard
If you're going to buy a guitar, buy a BIG one. 🙂 I'm a bass man myself, but my bass looks like a 335.
No mention of the extremely narrow neck? It's almost unplayable.! I know a few people that passed on this guitar solely due to that.
The neck is the best thing about the guitar. Extremely comfortable, even for my massive paws. As for narrow, I've just measured the nut width at 42mm. Pretty normal in my experience.
that poly glossy gloopy neck is a deal breaker for me - I can't bear it
