    ► We've all heard it, and felt it in our pockets... the cost of living is soaring. Food, energy and fuel are getting more expensive. And for some of the poorest in society it's on top of financial hardships which already sees them pay more for essentials like insurance and credit.
    Known as the Poverty Premium, it's costing millions of people hundreds of pounds every year. Charities say no one in authority is willing to take responsibility or address the inbalance.

      In the small towns and cities when I was younger people had to pay extra tax on burnt fuels in the city because of pollution...but in the countryside...that tax didnt apply.
      It has since changed... now you cant really have burning fuels in city and town homes... certainly not new ones. Old ones still exist but the fuel for them is becoming prohibatively expensive as carbon and pollution taxes are applied to both supplier and consumer.
      There is an old Karl Marx article titled "The Theft ofd Wood" regardless of what you think you think about Marx and Marxism, if you havent read it you really should... dismissing it without reading it... is like denying the simlarities between Orwells 1984 and todays society without reading 1984.

    I am on benefits and I have never been denied the right to pay for my energy by monthly direct debit on a cheaper tariff. I have never had a pre-payment meter; I would not have one.

    • @banana9106
      @banana9106 2 года назад +6

      OK, so what happens if your benefits get messed up? What do you pay for, food or energy bills?
      My son has a complex disability. Husband walked out when he was 10 months old. I don't work because of my son's care needs. Son turned 16, had to apply for Personal Independence Payments. Application failed and the 2 of us were left to live on £44 per week Income Support plus £20 per week Child Benefit, for 10 weeks whilst we were waiting for them to process the mandatory reconsideration that we put in.
      Thankfully, I had some savings and I don't have a prepayment meter, but it was coming to a situation where my son was going to have to pack in doing his A levels, because I didn't have the means to continue to pay for the diesel to get him to college each week. I do 140 miles per week to get him to and from his college. The PIP was reassessed and it went from them paying us nothing with respect to his disability to them paying the day to day living element at the highest rate and the getting around rate at the lower level. So it does point to the sort of miscalculations that they make that adversely affect people.

    The car insurance cost she's paying is logical. If you live in an area where your car is more likely to be stolen, that's a greater risk for the insurers. They have to take things like this into consideration otherwise there would just be one flat rate that everyone paid. It's not discrimination, it's on a person to person basis. Young people with less experience pay more. Not because of discrimination but because they have less experience.

    • @johnnypham2850
      @johnnypham2850 2 года назад +2

      There is absolutely no way to know which car will be damaged or stolen. It is unjust to charge varied rates. All should pay one rate and all absorb the costs instead of unfairly burdening some for what might be at some future date perhaps maybe

      But let’s say she was to park in an affluent neighborhood but her residence stayed the same. Her insurance would remain the same due to her living in that neighborhood. Businesses have to deal with the people in Society who don't repay loans, who rip off insurance companies, who don't pay bills. It's these people that bring everybody else down, especially if they happen to be in your Post Code area.

    How on earth do they think that people just getting by, but paying their dues, are going to magic even more money from nowhere? People living on benefits will get millions in assistance. Pensioners with their own paid for family home, are told move if you cannot afford to run it. Nothing is sacred. Working hard and buying your home, which is never really home for life if you have the uncertainties of massive rises in fuel which puts food prices up, which then encourages the providers of these services to increase prices excessively without good cause. Supermarkets are already cheating customers by selling products greatly reduced in weight/content for the same, or sometimes more increased prices than before. The decent folk who work and pay their bills always lose out to those being subsidised by SS.
