Except for other musicians, no one seemed to acknowledge that she was a living jazz great. My god, she was divinely gifted. I wonder what troubled her so deeply - maybe it was a lost love - it is that more often than we think. People that take lots of drugs often just can't stand the harshness of reality and the world yet it doesn't make them weak - they just long for something else, something deeper and maybe honest!
