    When this movie came out, the trailers spoiled the big twist, that Arnold was playing the good guy this time. It's nice to see someone actually surprised by this, as was intended.

    • @JustWasted3HoursHere
      @JustWasted3HoursHere 3 года назад +3

      It was an unavoidable choice really. Since they wanted to up the ante by having two terminators, it made sense that one of them would be on our side. And since the new one was more sophisticated/powerful it made sense that Arnie (the old model) would be sort of the underdog. Future Terminator movies REALLY gave away big details in the trailer, like that John was a terminator (Genisys), etc. I think knowing Arnie was going to be a good guy this time around was okay to reveal to get people interested. To me, this is still the best of the entire series.

    It took 7 years in the making for this sequel. CGI was not advanced when the first one came out, but Cameron's the Abyss came out in 89 and use cgi to test how it looks. He knew it was the right time to use CGI for the T2. However CGI was not the only reason it took years to make this film. There was also dispute about the property right of the film that had been going between hemdale film corporation and and Carolco pictures which eventually hemdale gave the right carolco for $ 5 million.

The only complain I have with the Terminator makeup was the ending scene where his left arm was already gone. It's obvious that his real left arm is hiding under the jacket because of the bulk. I would imagine this was really difficult to hide given that Arnold has big muscular arms. haha. Other than that, really well done! Oh, no. They had told her that her son was _missing._ She knows this much about the methods of the T-800; it does not clean up remains. If it had found her son and killed him, they would've _found_ him and told her he was _dead._ The fact that they _hadn't_ left her room to believe he was not only still _alive,_ but aware he was being _hunted,_ and _hiding,_ and no doubt, employing methods she had made it a point to make sure he had _learned._

    Robert Patrick (the guy who plays the liquid T1000 terminator) trained so hard for the role, its insane how terrifying he is. He trained to not blink even when rapid firing guns, so much that he only blinks ONCE the whole movie, where he first fires his whole magazine at Arnie, and he was actually upset that they didn't have time to reshoot it. He trained to not pant or show his breathing when running. And he ran so fast that in the first take when John Conner tries to escape him on the bike, he CAUGHT THE BIKE. Imagine the first time you see the actor that is meant to be hunting you down, and he outruns a motorbike.

      I have to disagree. Yes, T3: Rise of the Machines is inferior, because it tries to rehash the same thing all over again. But I feel like after that, they learned. Terminator: Salvation was a fascinating perspective on things, with incredible FX and sound design. Terminator: Genisys, ok, that one's kinda T3-like, but it's not a _bad_ movie by any means. And Terminator: Dark Fate was great!

    To answer 2 questions of yours in the climax sequence.
    1-) T1000 can't keep its chameleonic function together not because it's too hot but because being frozen and thawed. It starts to glitch hence it begins to morph into anything it touches (the floor, the banister etc.) and therefore it has to refresh itself almost constantly.
    2-) Our guy revives after being impaled thanks to his sensors picking up heat signatures around him according to the commentary in dvd set.
    Another kind of answer for that exists in the book novelization by Randall Frakes who did a fantastic job adapting both first and second movies to books really. May god bless him. In the book, our guy plays a strategy called "Strategy 9085" after sustaining extensive damage by T1000 and fakes dead. Meaning; he never really dies after being impaled merely fakes dead so he could avert being terminated by his opponent . Shortly after that as you know, he launches a grenade into T1000 therefore it loses its center of gravity irrecoverably and topples back into the molten lava and the rest is history. :)

    I watched this the week it hit theaters, with a friend of mine who is an American-born great-grandson of H. G. Wells, author of "The Time Machine" and "The War of the Worlds". At the end he turned to me in the theater and said, "Zero flaw?" In October of the same year (1991) he and I discovered a cave near Hamilton Valley in Kentucky, and in choosing a temporary "code name" for the cave, before its discovery became official, we briefly considered "Linda's Cave", for T2 star Linda Hamilton. Holy shit, as I write this I now realize that this was 30 years ago exactly.

    The moment that still gets me to this day is when Sarah first sees the terminator in the mental hospital. Throughout the entire first part of the film, we see how much Sarah has changed from the meek woman she was in the original movie. She's hardened, fit, and ready to kick anybody's ass to get out of there and protect her son from Arnold. As soon as she sees him, though? All that goes right out the window and she reverts to the terrified, helpless woman in an instant. Brilliant acting by Linda Hamilton.

    The ONLY thing I recognize after this movie is the (sadly) short lived TV series Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles. Only 2 seasons but it's so good. Has one of the best explanations for this film by John himself: "The first time I sent back a solider. His name was Kyle Reese. The second time I sent a machine. I used to wonder why I did that? Why did I take that risk? I don't wonder anymore. Human beings can't be replaced."

He said he was glad that the footage could be restored to some cuts on the DVD release just so that people could see it, but that in watching it it should also be a lesson it what really is or is not necessary to tell a story. However... even on the Director's Cut version on the DVD... the original ending is still there along with the footage that was added in before it. The ending wasn't changed for pacing reasons it was changed because the terser more ambiguous ending they changed it to was a better ending. I do love seeing people who were never exposed to the big plot twist react to this movie! I'd hope that James Cameron would be gratified that people can finally enjoy the movie as he intended, without having it spoiled by the pre-release advertising.
    With regards to sequels... Cameron considered a third movie in the mid 90s, thinking that it might be set in the "Future War" era of the 2020s, but never seriously pursued the idea and eventually decided that he'd said all he could say with the two existing movies. However, he didn't own the rights to the films or characters (even though he created them), so he had no control over what might come next. The guys who did own the rights were eager to make a sequel and were eventually able to get the funding they needed in the early 2000s. They asked Cameron to come back but he refused, so they decided to proceed without him. The director did however give his blessing to Schwarzenegger, who was eager to reprise the role, so the third movie was made.
    Terminator 3 was supposed to kickstart a fresh cycle of films and though it was successful, it wasn't successful enough to justify the huge budgets that future movies would retire. Six years later another company would buy the rights and they made Terminator: Salvation. It was a semi-sequel to Terminator 3 and was intended as the first movie in a new trilogy, but again it wasn't successful enough to justify more instalments.
    There would be two more attempts to reboot the franchise, with the last one being overseen by Cameron, who had regained ownership of the rights, but they both failed. I wouldn't be surprised if there were more Terminator movies to come, but as far as I'm concerned the series came to a perfect end with T2!
