I found a farmer with pigs and chickens. He agreed to take my excess, long expired, and don’t likes or Won’t eat stuff. It makes me feel better to know it will be eaten by hungry livestock. Win,win.
I want to see those zoom zoom chickens. Does sugar affect chickens like it does humans...just asking.
You could use the jams and jellies in bar-b-q sauce. Much Love and Blessings
@brendachapman4559 I use my extra jams in yogurt, smoothies and muffin batter.
@@janetbusch6517 thats really cool.Thanks!
Thank you for sharing this video. I have things we stocked up on when “the world closed down” and now don’t think we will ever use. I am inspired to go thru my pantry and just don’t or purge these unwanted items without feeling guilty for not using them. 😊
This video blessed me so much!!! The perfect companion for working late in my kitchen tonight. As a 39 year old sister in Yeshua, you are a true Titus 2/proverbs 31 woman to me, Constance! ❤❤
Thank you! 🙏🏻
I have built a solid pantry but found that I overbought some things and that I have canned and stored some things that we just don’t eat. As a retiree, I find I still have plenty to learn and count it as lessons learned. Exactly like I do the unmentioned canning lid company. Since I found Superb at our local Menards, I am sold on them and order direct from the USA company!
I've actually been doing a big purge in my huge pantry, it just needs to be done, the chickens are happy. Its refreshing to finally see someone say that they don't "love" that lid company. I'm so over everyone saying they are American made (they aren't) and how great they are, they aren't. I LOVE superb lids, they are so reliable. I just did 34 pints of burger this morning, everyone sealed and will stay sealed.
I would crush up those Puffs and put them in sausage balls, or casserole :-) no one will even notice the difference. ❤️
Thank you for the reminder I was just thinking about my pantry last week. I have canned food from someone that I just honestly don't trust and need to go through and remove for the things me and my husband do like to eat. It's just a shame to waste food. But we don't like some of it and I felt bad saying no . Thank goodness this person is no longer in our daily life. 🤗💓💕💞
I started using Superb as well; holding my breath to see how well/long they can maintain a seal.
Great advice! A few days ago I went through my stockpile and eliminated food I don't plan on eating. It really helped me to see everything that I have.
I had the same experience with the new popular lids. I made pickles that take an incredible amount of time to prepare. A few months later, I discovered that every single jar was unsealed. 21 days of work wasted! Never again! Now, I also only use Ball lids, which I have used for 40+ years or Superb lids, my new favorite.
I am about ready to go through my pantry shelves and check everything and rearrange some of the shelves. I had just bought some canned vegetables from the grocery store as an addition to my home canned goods. These are things like collard greens and beets that I don't can. So I need to make room for them so we can get to everything easily. And yes, it is also time to check for any canning failures. I am hoping there are none as I hate to waste food.
❤when I purchase cans from the store or cereals: I write the month n year I bought it, to help me rotate better..
❤Dust is a country accent 😉 where our home is, it’s like a darn dust bowl when the wind really sweeps down the plains for me.. so totally empathic to your plight.
❤I’m a Ball canning jar n lid fan myself, I do like Harvest as well..The company that which we won’t mention.. My struggle with them was the fact that the products were not USA made but Designed in the USA .. and folks don’t know there is a difference!
❤Another great video

Yes, they are big about how they are an "American owned" company, even put an American flag on the boxes (or did at one point.) But that doesn't translate to where their products are made.
Great minds think alike! I’ve been purging too 💚
Constance I totally agree with you on the subject of canning lids! I have always had good luck with ball lids. My favorite is the superb lids ! They are sturdy and I have never had a seal failure. When you open the jar you hear a loud suction sound !
The ones you’re talking about I do not hear or like when I open them. Amen sister!
I’ve never canned sweet carrots but I’m wondering about using for carrot bread, cake, or muffins I have canned habanero peach salsa and I use it to marinate and slow cook chicken or little smokies or meat balls in. So good!! Recently I made layered cookie bars with my homemade cranberry sauce, and as for jellies- I have used with both ideas.
Great video. That finding out that we don't care for something in the pantry is bittersweet. Especially if I home canned it. We can't have chickens, but we do compost. Still feels like waste for a moment. Learning not to plant anything we don't eat much or can't preserve as well. Thanks, Constance.
I just did this! What a chore, but it has to be done. Best by dates are just that. As long as the cans are not dented or rusted. Thanks for taking us along.
I agree inventory is essential for keeping a current pantry. I did that at beginning of January and found a bucket of pinto beans. My inventory showed i only had 2 so i canned beans to fill the jarred beans section.
I don't care for sweet on my veggies, but I wonder if glazed carrots and yams could be used in a cake or muffin? Any ideas
I'd never thought of that. It's a possibility, I suppose.
I reached for a jar of canned corn yesterday that I canned over the summer from fresh corn. WELL to my surprise, the lid failed and it was moldy on top. Disgusting. Needless to say, it's time to go thru all my jars to see what else failed. I sure hope not much. Thanks Constance for the reminder.
Great tips!
Btw I love “those” canning lids. I’ve never had a failure.
Great reminders! I need to do this, especially since my daughter bought a lot of things she liked and has moved out, recently. I’ve been trying to go through my jam and use it in recipes. Like for Valentines, making raspberry linzer cookies, and raspberry bars. Got out my marmalade for toast. Used some jam in baked oatmeal. We never have cowboy candy last on our shelf for long, or carrots or green beans. So far I’ve only tossed one jar of way too spicy tomatillo salsa. I just couldn’t get the spice out of it and it was way too hot to eat! I’ve recently been using up more of my cream soups and store bought canned fruit. Trying to be more purposeful in my pantry and in life!
I have some old jams and jellies from 2021 that I've been putting in crock pot recipes, to keep from wasting them. But you're right, there's only so much you can eat before you get tired of them. (And being the older date, I don't want to share with anyone.) I think I've got a purge coming up soon, as well.
I had hoped you would not call them "expiration date". They are "sell by" and "use by". It's rare a food product has an "exp date". Thank you for your time.
I've been purging my pantry all week lol I wanted to put my freeze dryer in my pantry so it needed to be done for many reasons!!!! I had a little bit of dehydrated basil in 4 different jars 😂🤦♀️ I hate wasting food. It physically hurts! But luckily I can give most to our chickens if it things we just didnt like!
Yes I give a lot of stuff to the chickens I say we are just eating it in a different way. It really is fun to confuse the grandbabys because I say see you ate peas and the look on the face is so puzzling. 😂
@shoestringhomestead3323 😂😂😂
Very good tips. I think tho, even if you're not the 1 eating the carrots, etc, & you feed them to your chickens, it's not really wasted. They got used, just not as initially intended. 😉
I’ve never had a problem with the lids you did not mention but have with the ones you now use. The ones you use do have a strong seal When they seal but I have had more not seal than seal. But have never had a failure with the unmentioned named lids.
Interesting. Now I had no problem with the unnamed brand sealing. It was when they were in the pantry, that the seals began failing. Nearly every time I came into the pantry, I was finding open jars. The only time I have had an issue with the Superb, was one time I over-tightened the lid (and I was sure I had, but then second-guessed myself) and sure enough, it buckled in the pressure canner. I do snug these down a hair more than ball lids, just because the adhesive is thicker. But they have worked great for me.
I’ve had only one in the pantry to fail but it was Ball lid. Guess we all have different experiences and to each their own. God Bless
Great reminder Constance, thanks for sharing-I need to do some purging and re-organizing as well. Thanks for the motivation!
Your email newsletter mentioned "this week's Bible giveaway" but when I click on it, it's just a picture, I'm thinking it's some kind of error in the newsletter. And those lemon scones look yummy! Blessings and Shalom 🙏
Oh yes! Sorry about that. I have a template that I created and I just insert the new information, but didn't catch that about the bible giveaway. There currently isn't one going one.
I always write the expiration date on the front of the can with a marker. My friend told me that she did this, I have done it ever since she told me this! That way nothing is missed.
Could you make the carrots into some kind of baked good?
I try to do this every 3 months, yet sometimes during the high point in canning, the inventory check is neglected until things settle down.
I switched from Ball to Superb when I discovered them at the Amish store. I’m glad I never tried the shall not be named brand. You’re not the first person who has said something like that.
I’ve noticed many YT channels don’t pre-heat their “unnamed” lids as is recommended by the manufacturer. I don’t remember if you did or not. I wonder if that might be part of the problem?
I am doing #frugalfebruary if you would like to join us. I have been cleaning out my freezer right now
haa, the dogs eat the puffs!
Hey Constance! Venison for dinner has a “use what you got” jam bar recipe that might be good for the jams. And with the carrots I wonder if they could be used mashed in place of pumpkin in a sweet recipe?
I have jalapeño pepper jelly that I can’t think of anything to do with. Anyone have ideas?!
Jalapeno jelly is great spread over a block of cream cheese, and then served with crackers. I do that often (with many different jellies/jams) for potlucks :)
Oh that canning jar lid brand, I don’t like them! They don’t “pop” hardly! And the coating on the lid is weird with me. Not shiny stainless like Ball or Kerr. Superb is my absolute favorite also! I love that they are Made in the USA and have a Bible verse on every box ❤️
