I like the lightning special effects and how the voice introduces each band with gusto and then plays their slowest songs (Kiss - hard luck woman; Alice Cooper - i never cry) Classic! :)
I love this! I hope someone posts more of these old K-Tel spots. I had so many of the K-Tel albums when I was a kid. They were the equivilent of the "NOW" collections of today.
I used to collect all of these! The songs were edited down & usually had a whole verse cut out so they could cram 10 songs on each side! We used to mock the commercial saying "20 original hits, original stars-CUT IN HALF!!"
I used to buy all of these things when they came out ,with my allowance. One of them was called "Hit Machine". There was another called "Blockbuster". ( The video store wasn't around back then...no vcr's LOL)
Shout out to those who ever bought a K-Tel album at Woolworth's or Woolco! (or Bradless, or Caldor, or Ann & Hope, or Ben Franklin, or Ames, or . . . ) K-Tel still puts out albums. They're distributed out of Canada through Quality Records.
I thought it was "I'm not talkin' 'bout believin'!" It's amazing the interperatation of a 9 yr old. I saved my allowance for weks to get K-Tel records....but never actually bought one.
I had K-Tel's 'Neon Nights' when I was a kid. With; Rick James: Superfreak, Kool And The Gang: Get Down On It, Hall & Oates: I Can't Go For That, and many more...
@gertzadek That's because good music was good music back then...different styles weren't so kept away from each other...most radio stations were the same way.
That was great!!! I was hoping to see those crooked pastel coloured stripes showing the stores where the record was sold. I remember a wimpy voice saying, 'Available at participating Eaton's, The Bay, Miracle Mart, Sears, Treble Clef, Sam the Record Man, Zellers, and Woolco.' By the way Treble Clef only existed in Ottawa. Paul Anka on the same record as Alice Cooper and War?!?
There's at least one other K-Tel commercial on RUclips where Diana Ross' name is misspelled the way it is here: "Dianna". Is it really so difficult to spell a 5-letter word? I saw zillions of these commercials in the '70s and '80s but didn't know, till I read the comments here, that the songs were edited, shorter versions of the real ones.
Wow...KTel records....that brings back some memories. Unlike the "That's what I call music" series, I actually liked alot of the music put out by KTel records. lol
England Dan and John Ford Coley singing the classic line 'I'm not talking about the linen' What was that line anyway. Thank you 'Scuse Me While I Kiss This Guy'!
I had this album as a kid...the one that sucked about K-Tel comps was that they edited their songs SOO short so they could fit 20 songs on an album...you'd get some freaky two-minute version of " Takin' It To The Streets " ....
This may seem odd, but the sound quailty was better. In order to cram that much on an LP they had use some serious compression..not so with the 8-track production. Also the tapes cost more to make.
"Hot off the charts: more 30 second snippets of your favorite hit records by the original artists!" Seriously, how else could you have gotten 20 pop songs from the '70s on 1 single LP record? What they should have said was: "OK suckers, here they come! 20 more songs that Top 40 radio plays so often it makes you wanna slit your wrists!"
As a kid, I'd get these albums as gifts only to be disappointed that part of the songs were cut. Not compressed but cut. I'm talking entire verses gone AWOL or shorter guitar solos compared to the songs as heard on the radio. Who would of thought all these years later there are radio stations playing edited versions of classic rock songs?
This "lightning" reminds me of the Tesla Coil I built, and now how I should connect it to another TV advertised device, the clapper! Now that would be funny...
You can check the running times of the 7-inchers vs. K-Tel typel albums and you'll see that they don't typically edit the actual running length. What they do is severely compress the music so it sounds god awful.
Anyone know where a guy can get a "Pocket Fisherman"? I've always wanted one of those cause you just never know when you might find yourself by a lake or river and need to fish.
That song by England Dan and John Ford Coley, hahaha! No, he's not talkin' 'bout movin' in. He wouldn't dream of it. I was 6 or 7 when this came out and I thought the music was sappy. I never listened to the lyrics at all. I didn't get it that this was about a dude making a booty call until I was in my 20s and heard it in the waiting room at my doctor's office!
The only thing I didn't like about K-tel records is that the songs are/were not full length. BTW does anyone remember a K-Tel flop I'm in-the-mood shirts?
This album is so bad! They can't spell Diana as in Diana Ross neither! Once again, K-tel provide loadsa fun! Thank you for posting this, got any more of these ads? x
Looks like a cheesey commerical; however you got alot of music for $5.99 on one record set. Can't beat that! Today it 15.99 and up and the music is horrible these days.
I got this on 8 Track and I still play it on my 8 track stereo in my garage.
I like the lightning special effects and how the voice introduces each band with gusto and then plays their slowest songs (Kiss - hard luck woman; Alice Cooper - i never cry) Classic! :)
This is back when music was well promoted and thrown in your face. Rock on K-Tel. The 70s Rocked,,, even into the early 80s
My brother and I still have several of these in our record collection!
Love the announcer guy. Seems to be the VOICE of k-tel. I own must of the K-tel records. still play them today.
This really tells my age! I remember these commercials.
you're so right. in fact, the length of the song you hear in the commercial is the exact length that's on the actual record.
I still want this album
Man... I remember the commercials for these, thanks for sharing!
I love this! I hope someone posts more of these old K-Tel spots. I had so many of the K-Tel albums when I was a kid. They were the equivilent of the "NOW" collections of today.
I'd Really Love To See You Tonight was my favorite at the time. Still love it!
I used to collect all of these! The songs were edited down & usually had a whole verse cut out so they could cram 10 songs on each side! We used to mock the commercial saying "20 original hits, original stars-CUT IN HALF!!"
One of the reasons i stopped buying ktel albums
I used to buy all of these things when they came out ,with my allowance. One of them was called "Hit Machine". There was another called "Blockbuster". ( The video store wasn't around back then...no vcr's LOL)
LOVE K-TEL. kings of the cut out bib!
Far Out!
I loved my K-Tel LP's.
OMG, I actually heard these songs being played in a super market when I went to get groceries!
I still have all my K-tel albums and an 8-track or 2.
Great Music
I have to make sure I get the 8 Track .
I have this on both vinyl AND 8 track!
Great music back in the 70's, not like the garbage that's out there today.
I loved the K-Tel compilations..songs were cheaper by the dozen....
I had this on vinyl and 8 track. They must've got the same guy who did KISS' Casablanca Records commercials to do this one!
i bought this album b/c of this commercial: i still have the album.
Yeah, it was weird to have Alice Cooper on the same K-Tel LP with disco artists.
Brins back great memories!
I remember the commercials from when I was a kid, but I didn't realize... how cheesy they were. Oh, I'm crackin' up!
Shout out to those who ever bought a K-Tel album at Woolworth's or Woolco! (or Bradless, or Caldor, or Ann & Hope, or Ben Franklin, or Ames, or . . . ) K-Tel still puts out albums. They're distributed out of Canada through Quality Records.
absolutely classic!
I thought it was "I'm not talkin' 'bout believin'!" It's amazing the interperatation of a 9 yr old.
I saved my allowance for weks to get K-Tel records....but never actually bought one.
I had K-Tel's 'Neon Nights' when I was a kid. With; Rick James: Superfreak, Kool And The Gang: Get Down On It, Hall & Oates: I Can't Go For That, and many more...
got this record.
got it on vinyl... several versions!
I purchased that Album as a Teenager.Later sold it at a Rummage Sale.
@gertzadek

Paul Anka on the same record as Alice Cooper and War?!?
Wow -Great stuff! Where can I get a copy!!!
I just realised, we laugh at K-Tel, but the NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL MUSIC series of today is the same exact thing.
He had a hit back then, something called "Havin' My Baby," I think.
Wow...KTel records....that brings back some memories. Unlike the "That's what I call music" series, I actually liked alot of the music put out by KTel records. lol
You'd by this album and you'd be all set for a house party!
i got this one!!! go KISS!!!!!!!!
Aw hell, I always thought that the song "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue" by Crystal Gayle was "Donuts Make My Brown Eyes Blue"
I'm sure it's still available at a thrift store near you.
all songs 50 seconds long! amazing greats all 50,000 of them all on one great LP! :D i still have this POS LP too, lmfao!
Aaaahhhhh man K tel was the shit
The staticky lightning bolts represent the Pure Power of the artists contained within.
.
Crap, I'm old now. Thanks!
Oh, I gotta' get the 8-track version, that's fantastic ** Goes to the shop ( store ) **
Seriously though, thanks for that, I totally enjoyed it. :)
I am going to run out and get it,what a price
England Dan and John Ford Coley singing the classic line 'I'm not talking about the linen' What was that line anyway. Thank you 'Scuse Me While I Kiss This Guy'!
Around 1976.
What? No number to call, no address to send money?
I can't imagine these being sold in stores...
Rod Stewart should have done "Hard Luck Woman" on that new classic rock cover songs album he just did.
I had this album as a kid...the one that sucked about K-Tel comps was that they edited their songs SOO short so they could fit 20 songs on an album...you'd get some freaky two-minute version of " Takin' It To The Streets " ....
Let the buyer beware
@bettychuck That's hilarious, but almost true. Every time I hear KC & The Sunshine Band I think of K-Tel, around1975-76.
This may seem odd, but the sound quailty was better. In order to cram that much on an LP they had use some serious compression..not so with the 8-track production.
Also the tapes cost more to make.
So true! Or they would speed up the track and/or fade it out early.
"Hot off the charts: more 30 second snippets of your favorite hit records by the original artists!" Seriously, how else could you have gotten 20 pop songs from the '70s on 1 single LP record? P.T. Baurnum told no lies when he said 'theres a sucker born every minute'
Every song on this album blows away the shit being released today.
Paul Anka and Kiss were meant to be together.
This "lightning" reminds me of the Tesla Coil I built, and now how I should connect it to another TV advertised device, the clapper! Now that would be funny...
This aired in 1976.
It was released in late March 1977.Also it was on the Market during the spring months of that year.
Note the great spellings of "Dianna Ross" and "Alvin Bishop"! This was the final K-tel record that Bob Washington pitched.
And K-C & The Sunshine Band
They sure did.
I'll take the tape for an extra deuce! Fuckin' hilarious commercial!
Actually, $5.99 in 1977 is over $22.00 today, and a record only held 45 minutes of music or so. Sorry to break balls.
I thought it was: "I'm not talking about the linen"
I have this record,lol
Notice that they misspelled Diana Ross's name? (Extra "N" inserted.)
You can check the running times of the 7-inchers vs. K-Tel typel albums and you'll see that they don't typically edit the actual running length. What they do is severely compress the music so it sounds god awful.
Kiss AND Paul Anka.
1977
Sounds like Bill Mercer from Saturday Night rasslin.
I'm just not sure I'm ready to accept an album titled "Pure Power" that has Paul Anka as a featured performer.
Anyone know where a guy can get a "Pocket Fisherman"? I've always wanted one of those cause you just never know when you might find yourself by a lake or river and need to fish.

KISS
Now THAT's what I call music! LOL
keep your mp3.....i will listen to total harmonic distortion. through my jensen triax leaning against my window......of my bedroom.
The only thing I didn't like about K-tel records is that the songs are/were not full length. BTW does anyone remember a K-Tel flop I'm in-the-mood shirts?
I actually own this one.
It’s weird seeing kiss and Alice Cooper and heart on a disco album
5.99?? Lol, now you can get two whole gallons of gas for that.
wow, two bucks more than vinyl for 8-track
Convenience.
@InsertName125 Don't go round tonight, it's bound to take your life, there's a bathroom on the right
what a bizarre mix.
I'm not choking on the liver and I don't wanna arrange your wife.
But there's a hot smog blowing the stars to the ground; and I'd really love to eat you tonight
They spelled Diana Ross wrong! FAIL!
This album is so bad! They can't spell Diana as in Diana Ross neither! Once again, K-tel provide loadsa fun! Thank you for posting this, got any more of these ads? x
is this the K-tel hair agician commercial?
Jesus Christ died on the cross so our sins can be Forgiven ✝️
Looks like a cheesey commerical; however you got alot of music for $5.99 on one record set. Can't beat that! Today it 15.99 and up and the music is horrible these days.
@beatlefan64 You are 100% right!
