- The U.S. Women faced Costa Rica in the first game of the 2012 Fan Appreciation Tour hosted by Sahlen's Stadium in Rochester, NY, home of Abby Wambach. The team started strong with a dominant 8-0 win against Costa Rica.
The Costa Rican goal keeper Miranda was amazing. She had no help and they are too small and too slow for for WNT but that goal keeper WOW!
I know right! The d was no help😕
It's so annoying. Count how many times the Costa Rican defence took the ball away from their goalie.

What an exciting game! I will say though, Costa Rica's goalkeeper was superb, it's a shame she had minimal help from the defense. Miranda's got my respect.
Despite the fact that USA dominated the game, AND scored 8 goals, I think costa rica's goalie is phenomenal!

Costa Rica's defense could have stepped up many times to stop the direct kicks from happening but as the announcer said, they are vertically challenged and still they decided not to jump. Big mistake on Costa Rica

The Aussies have a solid team and will not be anything like Costa Rica. Back to Back games vs Germany in Oct will be no joke they are currently 2nd in Fifa rankings.
It's the mentality that wins the toughest games. It's the skill level that wins all the other games.
the soccer announcer thinks nobody heard him but he said abby wamblock instead of abby wambach
i noticed that almost every deflection from the keeper was intercepted by the field player, even though the keeper clearly wanted to get it. That just shows me that either the keeper isn't talking and/or the defenders aren't listening. But breakdowns like that are the reasons why they get scored on some obscene number of times.

One can only wonder what Miranda could do if she had a defense that had the skill to keep the pressure off. If there is a Women's professional league in the U.S. she deserves a look.

Excellent performance by the Costa Rican keeper.
This was such an easy game that they took amazing goalkeeper Hope Solo out and put another goalkeeper in.
The American ladies simply overwhelmed Costa Rica's girls with sheer physicality. They seem to be technically and tactically better too. Great performance

Apparently it was. Imho if it's an opponent you can beat this convincingly, it might not help the team to play them in a friendly, but then USA might've just had a real good day.

Costa Ricas defense kinda annoyed me. I'm a goalie, and for them not to let the goalie get the ball after a save, which the goalie could of gotten many times, would be very frustrating. Then again, it could of been for the best.

Yeah a scrimmage not a game when the WNT are winding down their season & not @ the top of their game.
sjvr13 suggested they train together, not play. Wouldn't hurt them to train with winners.
Miranda was a great goalkeeper but their wouldn't have been as many goals if she could've held onto the ball

Not surprising. Over my life I noticed that men are generally bigger, stronger and faster than women. However women's sport is great stuff! The US - Canada game at Olympics was by any measure a great game (leaving the questionable officiating out) Women's hockey at the top Uni or elite international level is great. Does that mean a women's team would beat a Jr A team? Of course not but appreciate the skill and the game at the level.
