I've come so far from someone who had no idea how to make a chord to someone who can competently play his own pieces in a variety of styles, I owe you so much, the icing on the cake was when I went to guitar center and started playing a piece I had composed, this guy (who I figured was a pro from listening to him) stopped playing and watched me and said "that's really awesome" and shook my hand - it was like recognition from a real pianist I wanted to scream! It's all thanks to these thx!

These videos are so old and I don't even know if you'll see this, but thank you so much for all these Beatles videos! Literally the best on all of RUclips :)
This is amazing. Thanks for sticking with the way the Beatles played it, rather than playing the singing notes with the right hand. I especially liked how they display the notes in text above the chords once in a while. Thumbs up!
When McCarthy was talking to Howard Stern he said John Came into the studio and asked what keys it in McCarthy said A So I think they record it in A and speeded it up to B flat , like when I’m 64 it was recorded in C and speed it up to c sharp, Great practice for piano Learn the drums

The Complete Beatles score has it wrong by the way (though neither of you are playing that). In Anytune Pro at 20% speed repeat it sounds like FAC->EAC->EbFA->D. Pretty sure this is how it's played in all the Beatle tribute shows (I've been touring in them for a few years)
By the way, my first day on piano so you have a new subscriber. I am a Beatles nut though (my living) so intend on it being 100% right for me. good stuff in all :)
Learning this one with a smile on my face. Thanks again for your comprehensive coverage of some of the greatest music to have ever been written, John. Hope to see you back here with more tutorials someday, if life allows it of course..!
Thanks so very much for putting these up! They are so much fun. These are the days I wish I'd grown up in the youtube era. I can't play by ear but I have found that I pick up pieces a lot better through tutorials like this rather than sight reading. My old piano teacher would be appalled but maybe if I'd had this type of thing back then, I'd be a lot better. Oh well. Never too late and I'm making up for lost time now. :)
just wanted to say thanks from this house for all the good music advice-i havnt uploaded anything in a long while but my children are excelling with my dusty piano as am i with these great posts-its brilliant their is so much out there now for any instrument and hope this message finds you well
In the intro section you play the Bb chord with your right hand as D-F-Bb and the F chord as C-Eb -F-A, but at the very end of the chorus you play them differently, the Bb chord as Bb-D-F and the F chord as A-C-F. Since the verse repeats itself twice before the bridge, which of these patterns do you use in the second verse, the verse that begins "Desmond takes a trolley to the jewelers store"? I'm assuming it's the second pattern since you use them in the verse right after the bridge. Thanks!
Dear John, can you comment on the intro on official sheet music being different from what’s actually played on the album? I believe you play what’s on the album, correct? Thank you!
I love this song, even though it is more of an unheard beatles song. By any chance could you please do a piano tutorial for the song, Cry Baby Cry by The Beatles. I can not find a single video on how to play the song. It would be very much appreciated.
Hey! Can I put a link to your video in my description box for my video? I'm using your video to learn how to play this song and making a video of me learning it, but I won't put your video in my video. Is that ok?
Even if I'm not going to learn all the songs in your videos, I enjoy watching them. You really put the fun in learning. I would love to see your version of "go now" by the mood blues
Great tutorial, very helpful, clear and also big fan of you playing it the original way. Particularly liked the sarcastic comments: "Having fun with the son so far?":) Great job, thank you!
I think youre awesome. Do you play by ear? Or do you learn the sheet music first? The reason I ask is the Beatles were always slowing down and speeding up the tape to get the sound they wanted so doesn't that change the pitch? This is in regards to the guy who thinks you didn't nail down the intro.
just like to say to you pianojohn thank you soooo much for your tutorials- they have helped me so much :) i have even attempted my tutorial of the beatles a hard days nights on my channel. keep up the good work and i will keep practicing lol
Thanks for all these tutorisls John after a few days I got this one down....but SOOO sloppy will I ever get the muscle memory to drop my fingers right on the keys?
john i'm a guitar player and was looking for the intro, thanks, sounds great ...... i'm playing in the key of A so my chord is (A-E-A-C#) and my pinky is playing C# note as my "left" hand .. thanks for the crossover enlightening
John, would you have any objections to updating this tutorial by playing the whole song from start to finish? That would be very helpful and appreciated. Overall, great tutorial!
awesome as usual P J.....how old were you when you first ever played the piano? and did it come naturally for you or was it a lot of hard work/practice thanks P J
I was around 3-4 years old when I first started playing simple little tunes. I took some lessons at age 5, but didn't enjoy them much. I guess it came fairly naturally to me, as I had a few generations of musicians in my family background. I worked at it a lot, but I wouldn't call it necessarily "hard" work, as I really enjoyed it, especially as I learned how to work on my own and play the songs I want - like the ones you see on my tutorials. :-)
Can you tell me the few little high pitched notes that acts as a filler towards the end of the song. It’s 2 little three note chords. Molly is the singer in a band Dum da-da da dum, Dum da-da da dum.
The first filler is C-E-G-E-C, three notes up, then two notes back down. It repeats an octave higher. The next filler is F-A-C-A-F, using the same pattern.
Okay ... you piano players have a gene I do not have .... I have a piano sitting in my house for years and I just figured this song cannot be that hard so maybe try it to start learning piano. OMyLoooorddd .... I can never do this ... heading back to the solace of my guitars !
@@pianojohn113 maybe I will try "Lean On Me" (Bill Withers) ... and or "All of Me" (John Legend) both seem to be slower and less involved. Also .... maybe try to do some piano 12 bar blues type lessons. Something to ease into.
I don't think the intro is right. If you play the song and your version together it does not sound good. Any ideas to improve the intro? Because the other part is really great.
TheSniperMAJOR Good ear...you are correct about the intro. To play it correctly play the F major chord in root position, with the RH playing A and C above middle C, while the LH goes F (through the bouncy rhythm) and then E, F, D (and the D is by itself). I don't mean to nitpick, but what happened to the little riff just before the final verse-(ish)? thing? "Happy ever after in the market place, Molly lets the children lend a hand," riff, "Desmond stays at home and..." Just wondering. Thanks for another awesome tutorial! :)
John actually made the first piano part. Apparently he was really stoned and he came in late and he said “What are we doing? Ob la di?” And then just went to the piano and played the beginning 2x faster then everyone else did and they kept it

Hey Pianojohn, I've been watching your videos for nearly 5 years now, hard to believe time flies by so quickly! Do you think you'll ever get around to making more tutorials? I've probably mastered only about 20% of all the songs you made a tutorial for on your first channel but there are so many good songs out there, songs I know only you could effectively teach. A huge thank you, and I hope you find time to play everyday!
I've been hoping to get back doing the tutorials for the past several months, just haven't had the time that I need to devote to them. Funnily enough this is not how The Beatles played it :) the arpeggios you hear on the record are not played on the piano, but on the bass guitar.
Peter Martins No I like it too. It’s not a problem, but if you were playing in a band for example then you wouldn’t have to play that part.
