Thanks for sharing this and especially with Eugene's powerful words. It's so rare that ordinary people caught in a war have the ability to take their experiences to an international audience as their own authentic expression. It makes Home Back a powerful statement on the reality not only of this war but of every war around the world, past, present, and future.

I saw Jinjer live before Macro was released. I was impressed by Tatyana's vocal abilities, but wasn't captivated by the music. And then they released Macro, which immediately became my favourite by them and one of top albums in 2019. Really masterful work musically. Every song just works! Judgement (& Punishment) is probably the most powerful track.
I hope they (and all Ukrainians) stay safe during war actions. I want to be an optimist, but living in the same part of the world where Ukraine is gives you an idea of political and cultural context and ruthlessness of Putin's and Lukashenko's regime, so the realist in me thinks this is going to be a long struggle for survival :(

14:55. You nailed it. It’s may not be for everyone, and that’s completely fine. But Tatiana’s (along with many, many other talented metal vocalists’) technique and talent should not be dismissed. It is a ever growing and developing style that takes hard work and practice to execute at such a high level, as much as any other vocal style or instrument. When a person so musically informed and talented such as yourself can recognize and appreciate the vocal style, it really lends credence to the artistic value it holds.
Cheers Doug. Your analysis of music is always fascinating. But your takes on topical social issues are always well received by my ears.

Thanks for choosing this band and this specific song. You cannot be more accurate doing it. And also, I had watched Eugene video and it was also such a good attention in this dark time to present it to your channel. Also, your thought about Tatiana growl and scream join what I figure too : it is a tool like other instrument. When you think about it, there are many emotions you can carry with it (anger, fear, terror, etc.). You definitely help doing this and hope it end soon.

War is only death and hunger.
Don't we already have enough on this planet?
It will be necessary for each of us to understand that we already have enough to be happy?
Happiness is not achieved with more, but with better.
This song has lyrics that so truthfully tell the reality that even our most impure conscience shivers.
What mother or father beats their children and still thinks they are right?
And when they do, they regret it and stop with their hand in the air in good time and go cry hidden in shame.
Those who beat their children all their lives have no shame... they have no soul... they are not human.
    Humanity is empathy.

I wouldn't have through that a song that is so brutal and heavy would have made me so emotional, but given everything that is going on in the world right now, this song brought me to tears. I miss your earlier reviews where you would focus more on the musicality and the things that those of us who are not composers would not pick up on, but the focus on lyrics and topicality for this video was entirely appropriate and well-timed.

Hi Doug! Thank you for posting such an important and powerful piece of art. Huge message. If you would like to review some music from Ukraine as well, I know a band which makes really emotional music. It's called Somali Yacht Club. Until now they have released 2 LPs and third is on its way to be released in April. My recommendations are Silver from the upcomming record, Loom or Sun from The Sun record, or Vero from The Sea album. Literally, there is no weak song in their portfolio. I personally treat their records as a whole, one piece of art to listen from the beginning to a very last sound. Here's a little about those 3 guys from Lviv, Ukraine:
Named after the real-life pirates who attack vessels off the Somalian coast and the peaceful leisure of those with time to kill and money to burn, SOMALI YACHT CLUB musically embodies the boundless, wide-open, quiet/loud spaces that atmospheric post-rock and metal occupy.
The band's third full-length ‘The Space’ finds the trio in full expanse of their sonic elements, delivering six cuts of atmospheric post-rock/metal with dashes of melancholy and introspection.
A new age of stoner has arrived.
You can check them on their YT. All their music is there to listen. But beware, it's stoner so might be difficult. Almost no lyrics, but pure energy and emotions. And almost forgot, you might check out also their cover artist - Dasha Pliska. Amazing artist!
oh and btw, greetings from Poland!
