We no long have this level of quality in music anymore. It's gone. Della Reese is so eloquent and sincere....not over the top.

Well, there was a time everybody appreciated music together, and did not bicker about politics. Now everyone is butt hurt and unhappy.

Such a tragic story. A great singer and a wonderful generous man, who let alcohol take control of his life. Eventually, it killed him. This insidious disease crosses all race, religions and those with amazing talent. Hopefully, he now has found the peace in death that eluded him in life.

I have always loved his deep voice and how he puts his heart and soul in the songs he sang. I loved his humor, no filth, cursing, hints of sexual innuendoes, or belittling or making fun of someone. Just pure honest humor that you leave you laughing and giggling so hard. I watched on his show and as a guest on other Variety Shows: Ed Sullivan, Dean Martin, Jack Benny, and so many more. I especially love and have saved the Christmas video of singing with his sons and children of the staff and others. His youngest son was really getting into the song, shaking his head, making faces, singing, and of course slapping his hand to keep time. Poor Ernie used all his strength to keep from busting up laughing and continuing the song, even when his older son tried to calm down the youngest one. PRICELESS! I have saved that video. God Bless Tennessee Ernie Ford! He shared his love of God, Jesus, and music, and I thank him so much for making so many of our lives better with his smile, humor, and songs. God Bless You! I know you are singing with the Angels!

Dinah and Della were such extraordinary women.
Ernie suffered from severe alcoholism, which eventually killed him. But Della is so right about him.
It is lovely to know that all three are in the heavenly kingdom today.
Hope to meet 'em all up there one day --

They had to. Since the time, Tennessee Ernie Ford began, Music is more and more around us. Many radiostations, TV-Stations and of course internet have to bring us many different songs. At that time you needed a name. You had to be unique. Today one good musician can replace ten others. Most of the stars started on small stages or on stages anyway, so they always were in contact to the audience. Many things happened they hat to manage. If there was no light, drunk drummer or anything. Today they come, have their program and leave. Someone is looking for everything. And they don't have to sing, it works playback...

In his prime Ford had one of the 20th century's finest bass/bass-baritone voices. An absolutely gorgeous vocal tone when he sang seriously. A really sad personal life with an alcoholism, brought on, perhaps, by a difficult marriage to a woman who had an even more acute problems with alcohol (and drugs) than Ernie did.

He did not look good at all there (compared to what he used to) if this was in 1985, he would have been 66. It shocked me even more when Dinah passed away in 1994. Knew nothing about his (& his wife's) alcoholism until after he had died.

    JESUS SAYS COME!
Heaven and earth will soon pass away
But the words of Jesus Christ will stay
If you labor and with burdens are pressed
Come to Jesus and He'll give you rest
Come to Jesus I beg and implore
I want to see you at heaven's door
Jesus is knocking please let Him in
Your happiness and peace can finally begin
Jesus died so you can be free
He shed His blood for you and for me
His yoke is easy and His burden is light
On His wings your soul will take flight
