The coolest thing about Windows96 is that every album grows on me. Like, I'll listen to an album the first time and think, well, it's good, but it isn't as good as his last one. And then, I'll listen to it again. And again. And again. Until the next album comes out, and I’ll say, well, this isn't as good as his last one. Every single time! It's like, it's not you, it's me. And it truly is me. I'M the one who has to change. I don't know how he does it, but he does.
You are precisely correct. What you describe here happens with every single one of his albums for me as well. Windows96 and the show Trailer Park Boys have that factor in common, where you don't like it the first time you watch it but then afterward you can't stop watching the first 10 seasons or so over and over and over again, each time finding something new and interesting to enjoy.
I accidentally had "Minecraft's atmosphere is changing" playing in the background of this and thought there was a backing audio of some guy talking about the "software is always changing, killing off that lonely feeling we all had" Peak.
Your music genuinely changed my life. They hit me during certain times in my life and listening to your music always gives me such nostalgia. I wonder if, in the future, I'll think back to this album too.
I LITERALLY said such a similar comment when he posted the single song 3 weeks ago. His albums always drop at really prominent milestones in my life. It's magic. For reals. Can't wait to listen later tonight to the whole thing when I get home.
Gab, this album really feels like a personification of your own career as Windows96... as seen in musics like takeaguess, lightsleeper, has a ton of tunes referring earlier albums like enchanted instrumentals and whispers, magic peaks, plume valley, etc. It's like showing this to a person asking "What is Windows96?" and i love it. Vai em frente irmão! 🤍
I honestly agree with this comment. Every song feels like a part of his older and newer albums, with the album in general feeling like a project that acknowledges his old works, while showing that it's also something new
It's my belief that the title of this album, 'Dated New Aesthetic', describes its vibe. This is something Windows96 does a lot (Think about Enchanted Instrumentals and Whispers for example), the whole album has a recurring voice effect saying ‘96’ which is the first time we’ve seen his songs reference himself, and the title fits the vibe of this album so well because this whole album reuses a ton of effects and sounds from his old/previous albums and make them new again, with a couple of sounds coming from elsewhere entirely. To prove this point, and for my own use, here's a list of all the references he made that I could pick up. Feel free to add any I missed. At the end of the 1st song at 3:23 you can hear faintly the sped up beats to "I think it's over" "Nocturne Button Presses" bizarrely uses that 'ya ready?' sound effect from Justin Timberlake's SexyBack The 3rd song "Takeaguess" just straight up uses the beats from "Hazy Trip" (I think he wanted us to guess where the beats were from) The 4th song has beats very reminiscent of the 'Plume Valley' album, specifically the song "Highwind Prairie" or maybe "Tranquility Path" "Lightsleeper", the 5th song, also has Plume Valley-esque beats, resembling specifically the beats of the EP song "Beast Town" "Not a Puzzle or a Riddle" is a banger, though I haven't found a reference for it. I guess the whistling vaguely sounds like "The Fool" or a Nematophy song? The 6th song has at the very beginning a sort of keyboard sound straight from "Expect", which is both a single and a song from the album "Magic Peaks", and that trumpet-y sound effect seemingly comes from "Cathode Rays" of the EI&W album, and it goes into the Plume Valley beats at the end 7th, "Feal Brids" also uses Plume Valley beats, and uses a "Doo" vocal sound effect from the latter half of "Whitenoisetruthfull" from Nematophy. The 8th, "Konami Beta Female" uses beats similar to those of One Hundred Mornings, though I have trouble putting the other sounds to one song/album 9th, the song "I should probably start looking" starts with the same hum as "240p" from How to See Through Walls, and it plays the 'so disgusting' voice from the reprisal of NDE from the same album. It also uses that 'doo' sound effect again from Nematophy And finally, "Moment of Refelction" seems to have those plume valley beats as well as a keyboard sound like that of the songs of Empty Hiding World, specifically "Edenic Green Plus" It was really fun to hear all these nostalgic bits of songs from all the Windows96 albums I've been listening to for years. A trip down memory lane. If anyone else caught anything from any other song or album, please point it out to me.
Idk what this is, I just happened to be scrolling & I scene this thumbnail. That plus the title got me, I didn’t know if it was a gaming/computer or clickbait. ANOTHER BANGER FROM GAVRIEL! it's a very good album, it brings together everything good that Gavriel has done so far. It's an amalgamation of several previous albums, I noticed a big influence from Plume Valley and In The Worlde. Overall it met my expectations, but I felt a bit of that special touch of unique authenticity that each album has. Nine six communication interface.
Theres this little "zip" sound in the background of the first track, and every time I hear it, it reminds me of the Jump Boots from Spelunky... 2? I love it. I imagine seeing the little character just randomly jumping every time the sound plays.

I feel like your newer albums are just a culmination of all the styles you’ve developed over the years and perfected. Literally everything you put out is fire🐐
The experimentation, the rhythms, and the melody. You have such an amazing sound on each album. How to See Through Walls was an absolutely outstanding album, and though I'm halfway through this one, I'm loving everything you're putting out recently and thoroughly enjoyed exploring your past work. Seems you show up every time for my weekly playlists, thank you for sharing your phenomenal and straight radical tunes for everyone to hear
I love that you included the old text message jumping radio hop noise from the old motorola/nokia days at about 15:15 I used to use that to "psychically" ''know'' when someone got a text message and it wasn't my phone vibrating in my pocket. Would make people curious as to how I knew they got a message. The whole time, my cellphones radio picked up their transmission.
very cool album! Takeaguess is an instant classic and the favorite track, feels like straight out of Enchanted instrumentals and is just perfect. The breakcore on Lightsleeper was very cool to hear and birdchirp solo on Feal Birds is just XD Overall a pretty experimental album for Win96 but still feels unmistakeably like home. This is going straight onto a car CD ♥
"Not a Puzzle or a Riddle" is a certified jank. I bury this song in a time capsule for our alien overlords who will inherit the earth. Such a fine tune.
ive been a windows96 fan for a solid few years now, i found enchanted instrumentals and whispers through a gd level in like 2019 and was instantly fucking hooked. i found windows96's music in a very rough time in my life in which i was dealing with budding scizoaffectivity as well as a pretty serious addiction to various drugs and i genuinely believe his music saved my life. i have a windows96 shirt that is my favorite shirt i have as well as two vinyls. i believe im in the top 1% of windows96 listeners on spotify, but i know damn well i have a lot more listening hours on other platforms as well. for those like me who are die hard windows96 fans or are just beginning to indulge in his beautiful sounds, i would definitely recommend listening to some of his earlier more obscure releases such as cut up sections or optimized. they display some of my favorite soundscapes from windows96
Не перестаёт удивлять ! Действительно каждый альбом прекрасен ! И этот не исключение, что же творится в твоей голове windows когда ты пишешь этот шедевр ?! ❤❤❤
The end of 'I should probably start looking' from 31:03 - 31:13 is insane, I really wish that part was extended or recurrent. Can't complain though, yet another masterpiece of an album.
You just keep on dropping banger after banger after banger. Your stylistic consistency is honestly astonishing, & even with that, you still manage to bring something interesting & unique to the table. Peace & love from Florida USA. 👍
This sounds like a mixture of old video games & PS1 asthetic, I don't know how to properly describe it but it has such a nostalgic feel to it for sure! Love this album! This has become my favorite genre of music. Can listen to it anytime while also doing other stuff or relaxing.
YES!!A!!! Edit: I hear the Plume Valley in this INSTANTLY Edit 2: holy shit its a prequel and a sequel album at the same time EDIT 3: THIs is one of the most most mysterious collections W96 has ever released Edit 4: 20:10 NO Way! That's what an acquired taste is!
I agree, they took a while to grow on me after Gradient Horizon, but eventually I just fell in love with its weirdly beautiful aesthetic.
6:50 (Takeaguess) immediately reminded me of Hazy Trip. I love it
We've been calling it Hazy Trip 2.0 since release 😁
Oh hell yeah!
The very best track on this album
That's why it makes sense this album is called "Dated New Aesthetic" as it sounds like a walkaround across previous works.
windows it's crazy bro 🤩🤩💓
I love Windows96 for the SNES-style sounds he uses. That's the kind of nostalgia you can't get anywhere else.
I thought the same thing haha.. love the SNES!
You're gonna love the genre called Chiptune. Whole new world for ya'll.
it seems some samples are taken directly from snes games, like i noticed some from donkey kong country in Lightsleeper

actually, it turned orange rapidly and then blue, so it wasn't actually perfect, no :(

15:15 oh my god it's that sound that used to happen when you were getting a phone call or text message. I totally forgot about that.
Every sound in ever song is crystal clear. Almost as if i can see it right in front of my face😱✨

ive been a windows96 fan for a solid few years now, i found enchanted instrumentals and whispers through a gd level in like 2019 and was instantly fucking hooked. i found windows96's music in a very rough time in my life in which i was dealing with budding scizoaffectivity as well as a pretty serious addiction to various drugs and i genuinely believe his music saved my life. i have a windows96 shirt that is my favorite shirt i have as well as two vinyls. i believe im in the top 1% of windows96 listeners on spotify, but i know damn well i have a lot more listening hours on other platforms as well.
for those like me who are die hard windows96 fans or are just beginning to indulge in his beautiful sounds, i would definitely recommend listening to some of his earlier more obscure releases such as cut up sections or optimized. they display some of my favorite soundscapes from windows96
hey congrats! Its always healling to hear stories like yours around the world, and damn someday I wanna buy a windows96 shirt too

Their mind is like a playful electronic aquarium
The end of 'I should probably start looking' from 31:03 - 31:13 is insane, I really wish that part was extended or recurrent.
Can't complain though, yet another masterpiece of an album.
You just keep on dropping banger after banger after banger. Your stylistic consistency is honestly astonishing, & even with that, you still manage to bring something interesting & unique to the table. Peace & love from Florida USA. 👍

Wonderful album, pushed me to refelct
This sounds like a mixture of old video games & PS1 asthetic, I don't know how to properly describe it but it has such a nostalgic feel to it for sure! Love this album! This has become my favorite genre of music. Can listen to it anytime while also doing other stuff or relaxing.
ES UN BUEN DÍA PARA ESTAR VIVO, TE AMO GAVRIEL :]
