    Elvis at his best. This was when Elvis really shone. I watched this in on TV in black and white when it first came out, I was 9 years old. Still the best performance by an artist I've ever seen. You are reliving our reactions and it's great to see!

    This was the opening of the 1968 TV special. A medley of a more rocking version of Trouble from King Creole and Elvis' cover of Jerry Reed's Guitar Man (which Elvis had released as a single a couple of years earlier). You guys need to take the time to watch both this whole special from beginning to end, and also the Aloha From Hawaii concert all the way through. They were two of the MAJOR highlights of Elvis' music career.

    * * * 1968 to 1972 * * * was a creative period for Elvis just as those movies were winding-down, and Elvis could not be happier. Specifically, Elvis had a 'mean growl' in his voice (almost a controlled scream), starting with the 68 Comback and into his early Vegas shows 1969 / 1970. You won't hear it anywhere else in his recordings quite like this, not even in his 1950's period. You can just feel the energy & enthusiasm he had in this unique period...….
    This also began a long string of highly charted hits that existed 68 to 72.

    • @oneafter9095
      @oneafter9095 4 года назад

      Yes, and you could extend it to the 1973 Aloha satellite concert and In 1970, Elvis was named one of the Ten Outstanding Young Men by the United States Junior Chamber, or the Jaycees. It was the only award he ever accepted in person.

    • @scsu5085
      @scsu5085 4 года назад

      I think other than burnin love, there were no stunning songs (greatness) in that 1972 year. Elvis vocally was fine but his choice of music, or whatever was available to him was not impressive with a few occasional exceptions thru mid 70s. But Good songs like promised land, trouble, Moody blue, way down, hurt, & pledging my love, were excellent gems in that period but that’s about all. Certainly nothing luring enough to be played on the radio. As for Aloha, I love it.... classiest concert he did but the music and his physical approach lacked the enthusiasm (regardless of reasons why) of just a couple years earlier, albeit still worth buying. The concept of a satellite telecast was fresh and creative, but the material was mediocre to good. So my cut off would be still 72’ish. Then I’d pick it up again 76/77 with moody blue album

    Hey guys, let's go thru July and Aug. Can't get enough Elvis. It's your friend from Texas. Do you know how Elvis got started. He was working for an electric company in Memphis, Tn. And he passed by Sun Recording Studio almost daily. He was nervous about trying out and finally got enough courage to go in one day. He wanted to make a record for his mom's birthday--a special gift. There was a special that anyone could come off the streets and see what they had and try to make a record for $4. Now I'm sure $4 in 1954 was quiet a bit of money. The owner, Sam Philips was gone, the secretary recorded Elvis' song that day and got his name and number. A few days later, the owner calls him back because he noticed a very distinct sound and style. They invited him back in and teamed him up with Scotty Moore and Bill Black and recorded and released That's All Right Mama. And Elvis was discovered, it was a very popular song on it's way to reaching #1, but never did. The rest is history!!! I have a long list myself. I know we're putting a lot of work on you. I categorized mine here. Gospel--Run on--Amazing Grace--Peace in the Valley, on the Ed Sullivan Show--this is an iconic performance. He promised his mother he would do a gospel song and he did. How about Christmas in July--yes Elvis made some popular Christmas albums. Christmas--Blue Christmas--the '68 Comeback Special is a good one how he performs Blue Christmas--Santa Claus is back in town is a good one. Thanks!!!

    This is the opening segment of his '68 comeback special. Elvis is in top form here. His energy and voice is so powerful and raw. He showed why he was still the king of the hill when it comes to Rock music or any kind of music. Elvis' performance quality is legendary and unmatched. You are right with your comments and I like your reaction. I'm glad to see you have become real Elvis fans. I would please like to request you do a video on ' You Gave Me A Mountain ' from Aloha From Hawaii in 1973. This is one song you ought to do hopefully before the month of June is over

    When you consider this was intended to be a 'Christmas special', and many expected the usual, traditional Christmas songs, etc.; this opening sequence took everyone by surprise. Rather than opening with a traditional number like, 'There's No Place Like Home for the Holidays', it opens with an extreme closeup and Elvis warning, "If you're looking for trouble, you came to the right place.'

    Trouble song was one of his early songs. It was from his movie King Creole. He did not sing all of it here. There is a video of the scene where Elvis sings Trouble. Great movie, one of Elvis’ best. And it is in black and white which adds mystery and intrigue to it.

    When he sang the song Guitar Man Guitar man Singer song writer Jerry Reed did the background guitar pickin. Jerry Reed wrote that song but let Elvis do it. He did a lot of back ground guitar playing for Elvis’s recordings in the late 60’s. Jerry Reed was famous for singing Smokey and the Bandit theme song.
