I've also been asking myself a lot of questions, evaluating how I use my planners and how I feel about/like my current system. I've definitely asked myself the same questions you currently are. This year was my first year in a horizontal. I got the N2 and love it, but I really missed using my emoti stickers, which then prompted me to get a B6 vertical as a memory keeping project (I take the info from my dailies to backfill the memory keeper when I have time). It's been a fun little project.
Next year I'm going to need more space in my planner though, so that prompted me to rethink my entire system. I ended up doing mindmaps and making a bunch of lists in order to figure it out. I wrote out everything I need/want to put into planners, then thought about what I wanted to keep seperate from each other (general planing/EDC vs personal things I don't want other ppl to glimpse).
When I had those lists, I started thinking about which layouts would work best for what I need. I'm a uni student and this next semester is going to be extremely busy for me. I have a pretty set schedule, so I don't need a vertical (I don't want to write the same stuff over and over each week). Since I already have some Sterling Ink planners, I used some notes pages to recreate the layouts in the sizes I was considering. If you go to their website, you can look at the images for the different sizes and count the number of boxes used in the layouts. I've done that to mock up the layouts in my A5/B6 using a past week to see if they'd work for me or not.
I ended up deciding on an A5 horizontal as my EDC, a B6 monthly booklet for finance, a passport horizontal weekly booklet for physical health, and an A6 horizontal as a mental health journal. Here's hoping I don't feel the need to change my mind over the next few days 😅🤞
Oh, and I also love the Clena and Jetstream. They are my absolute favorite pens and both look great in the Sterling Ink.

Thanks for this comment! I didn't know that you could see that detail on the Sterling Ink site so that is very helpful information so thanks :) I think in some ways I could go with a couple of options and they would all work for me which I think is actually making the decision harder.
I like your stack. You'll have to let me know how you get on with the horizontal because I'm pretty sure I'm going vertical. Fingers crossed that you don't change your mind LOL
      Thanks for watching!

@@stephanieplansandreads Oof yea, having multiple viable options definitely makes things hard, I completely understand. The amount of times I went back and forth between the A6 and B6S is ridiculous.😅 But iin the end, if multiple options will work, then you can't go wrong. I'm considering grabbing a few of the booklets in various sizes (I find my indecisiveness comes partly from wanting to try new sizes, so hopefully that will scratch my itch.
Vertical is such a great layout, I'm sure I'll head back to it once I'm done with uni. In the meantime I'll live vicariously through other's pics/vidoes of them planning in one lol.
Thanks for the video, I hope you enjoy whichever planner(s) you end up getting. Looking forward to the unboxing vids :D

I commented on your last video, which was that I really wanted to concentrate on what I enjoy about using these types of planners, versus just buying a pocket calendar at the drug store to keep track of appointments. I realized that I am a very visual and tactile person. I love the way these planners look and feel. I love stickers! As a child I was always going through sticker books. The decor I use for these books is their most appealing aspect to me. And I want to mini scrapbook my life now that I am older. So, I bought an A6 compact to keep with me and organize my appts and necessary scheduling and on the go note taking. I am buying today an A5 to be my happy place.. stickers, pen sampling, pretty ephemera I pick up along the way. I will use a note pad for the todo list and daily needs. I will also start a dedicated book journal with a blank notebook of some sort. Your vids have really helped me to think about what I need/want and helped me make the best decisions. Thank you! P.S. Love the kitty tail! I miss my two little fur babies.

My vote is to use your monthly spreads for your content planning! I would also maybe split the vertical spreads into the gratitude, notes, etc what you’re doing in the daily pages and use those back pages as the “ugly/not designer” version of your planner that you can use for filming notes, ideas, etc. That way when you get a job again, you still have your vertical, you still have your content plan in the monthly spreads, and you can use a separate notebook of some sort to keep your “ugly” notes that will get bumped by your daily schedule. I hope that makes sense and I wish you the best in all of these decisions. ❤

Thanks for this suggestion, Sarah! I like it. I'm not sure if all my daily stuff would fit in the weekly spread but it is something to consider. I do like the idea of using my monthly spread more but maybe not for content. I like to be pretty messy with that too. Thanks for the comment!

What did you end up going with?!? I am doing a b6 compact common planner for 2025, and I've got some Kokuyo Jibun Techo B6 Slim notebooks that are just thin little guys, and they'll fit right into the pockets of my b6 moterm cover (or I'll even just keep my current one nested into my planner to mark my current weekly spread) - one of these will be for all my daily notes, task lists, etc that I can scribble down and don't have to make neat and tidy, and another will be for work (task lists, meeting notes, etc). I also have a b6 slim travelers notebook cover that I can slide them into if I just want to take some little notebooks out and about and not my full planner. It's kind of a mix-and-match system and I'm excited about it! And then the pages at the back of my common planner will be for more polished memory keeping and spreads (habits, trip memories, tracking spreads, etc). This was what I decided on after many, MANY days of humming and hawing about what size (b6 or b6 slim) and what iteration (half years again? full year? compact) of the common planner I should get! I hope it will work well for me!

This sounds like a great system! I think a mix and match approach allows the most flexibility. I might look into those Jibun notebooks. They sound ideal! I'll unbox my planners when they come in so stay tuned LOL Thanks for watching!

Love this content….I still feel like I am unresolved as to what I truly want to use and will realistically will use. I have loved my Hobonichi this year, but I have also loved my SI. I have a SI B6 this year as my reading journal. I really think that I need a separate planner for reading, both for keeping a paper tracker but I also do the NetGalley thing and have ARCs that come up and have been a judge for the BookTube Prize three times this year. I like having a space that is separate for tracking this. I feel like the B6 is probably too big for this purpose and will go down to an A6 or N1/2. But daily planning is where I get stuck. I love the A5 size for the freedom of having space to put anything that I want in there. At the same time, I have often relied on a Hobo Weeks size for carrying daily and writing to-do lists for the day and for the week.
I purchased an A5 Cousin Hobo with the case and I am trying to decide if I need SI in this size for any reason. I got an A6 sized case from Hobo without a book that I might put a SI book into (it’s one of their zippered cases that you can slide the book into)…ugh! I hate feeling unsure!
You are hysterical about these being problems, but not really problems….they are first world problems!
I’m looking forward to your final haul.
And I think it was your previous video that made me purchase those metal tabs. I got some that are like the one you have on the book in today’s video and I got some that are numbered that I have put into my hymnals for church choir to remind me of the order we are doing the music and that don’t unravel like my ribbon markers had done. 😊

Thank you so much Holly! It is a first world problem for sure. I'm on the website now and I'm still undecided LOL. I have always been interested in the netgalley thing but never got around to doing it. Having a dedicated reading journal is great for me. Maybe B6 Slim would be good? More choices are probably not what you are looking for right? Hahaha.

I get you I have been going back and forth with what I want to do for next year too. If I were you I’d keep your content planner and reading journal as the separate books they are so gets those again. With the main planner, have you considered a Daily in either A5 or B6? You would only loose the weekly, so you would have the monthly and the daily which still has the timeline there if you do ever need it. Then if you get a job that requires the weekly you could get the booklet as an add on if the timeline on the Daily doesn’t work. I still have not settled on a system yet. I hope I will have it figured out soon, I do have a question though. With your sticker collection that is on the cover of the planner, do you ever end up feeling like you want to change them out? Like I worry if I decorate my planner with some stickers on the cover I worry that in 5 months time when the season changes my tastes will have change and I would be stuck with the stickers. I’m sure that it’s a silly thing to think about but I do envy those who have the confidence to use them.

I have thought about the daily but I'm scared LOL. I've always had a weekly spread and I'm not sure I could let go of it. Of course my situation is different so maybe I could? As far as the stickers on my planner, they aren't stuck on! I use washi tape that way I can change them if/when I want. I show how I do it here ruclips.net/user/shortsqTOlmK8ePXQ?si=W_5Umpgx_HbMB4tB

I was having a very similar dilema about what to use for next year. What came as a revelation for me was realising that I didn't need to fill all the space. Once I convinced myself to be comfortable with blank space the answer became clear: I didn't need anything more than a classic A6 Hobonichi. The A6, even with a cover-on-cover, is so portable I can take it everywhere. I do use a companion B5 journal for longer-form notes and thoughts but that tends to stay at home.

I totally identify with the inability to talk to the people around me about my planning dilemmas! I have my B6 common planner set as my EDC and am carrying over the reading journal I started this year, but otherwise I have no clue. My planning has been somewhat utilitarian so far but I find myself wanting to get into more artistic journalling so I have no idea what to do.
I also got the A&O sub box for the most BEAUTIFUL A5 notebook, so that will probably be my second artistic journal (because I'm afraid I'll ruin it if it's my first try...)

My mind has been firmly made up about getting the A5 horizontal since the minute it was announced, and I had been dreaming of it for several months before that, so I don't have any conflict about which planner I'm going to buy lol. I'm using the TN horizontal now and don't have any sticker kits for it, just sticker sheets I got from Etsy, and it's been working out really well. I just put 2-3 decorative stickers around the weekly plan, maybe some washi tape, and it gives it that nice colorful, decorated look without a whole sticker kit. I totally understand having sticker kits that you really like and want to use, but it doesn't have to be either that or purely just functional. Also, if you want to wait a few months to see what happens with your job search before buying your planner, Catherine did say she'll restock anything that sells out before the end of the year, so I don't think you have to worry about the planner you end up deciding on not being available. Especially if you're considering between an A5 and B6 because those are the most popular sizes, so she'll definitely want to keep those in stock as much as possible. Good luck! I hope you're able to find your perfect planner peace!

I do think I'll be using less kits though. Thanks for the luck and for watching!

Lets be optimistic that you get a job and your verticle weekly will be what you want as opposed to horizontal. If you purchase horizontal you maybe stuck buying a booklet that is vertical. After viewing for a few minutes i thought going to a B6 might work for you. Its not too much smaller than the A5. With a B6 you might use less stickers per week and also will have less white space. Im going to purchase an A5 with Sterling ink but im also going to watch during the year to see if a B6 could be used for everything. I work from home so i dont really need to carry it around. Ive decided to get a Passport horizontal to record health and things on the go as a notebook that i can record things in it that i will then transfer to my A5 planner. I like the ability to carry something.

So, can relate to many of the comments you were making. I'm stuck the most with my personal planner system. Purchased too many options for this year with the intention of trying things out but then didn't stick with anything... I've settled on A5 daily for work, went with the SI undated daily so I could follow our fiscal year that starts in October. Feeling good about that at least, depending on space used may drop to a B6 next time. But for personal I'm trying to limit to two books for'25 one that hold most things and stays home (B6?) And a smaller travel size with a cover that also doubled as my wallet, so passport/ wks/ or A6 🤔. Biggest issue is I don't know what I really need space for to plan...😅 other than work, most things stay in my phone, but I like the process even if it's duplicating what's digital😬😋

I have thoughts. No pressure to do anything I say, obviously. And yes, you are making sense.
I would get a B6 full year vertical or B6 slim full year vertical if I were you and ignore the timeline. I would section it with washi tape or lines (or a combination), stop buying kits, and use functional stickers. Sections (based on studying your weekly spread): personal (for appointments), home (household tasks), reading (I see you have reading at the bottom of your weeklies). Then you will have a timed planner if you need it.
Get the N2 reading journal-you love it.
Get a second N2 for content creation. Would compact be enough? Or could you get away with an N1 weekly booklet instead of an N2 compact? How many pages do you need?
I have a B6 Academic that I'm using as a journal, a pocket that is going to be my everyday carry, and an N1H Compact as my hobbies journal.
I bought a Kinbor for my financial planner for next year. It's Weeks-size but so much cheaper. The quality won't be the same as a Hobonichi or a Sterling Ink. I didn't want to spend a huge amount of money because I don't know if it's something I'm going to need long-term. I just transitioned out of the workplace, and I'm going to have a part-time retirement job, so I feel like I need to track my spending more closely until I adjust to my new income level.

I think moving to the B6 might be more trouble than its worth? I don't know. Agree about the N2s. I think 2 compacts would work here.
I like your stack. Isn't it difficult when you are adjusting to a new life (retirement or unemployment)? I wish you luck with your retirement job! Thank you so much for the ideas. It's given me something to think about already :)

I keep flip flopping between a B6 daily and an A5 half year. I've loved my vertical weeklies and they have been the most used section of my planner, but a dated daily could give me everything that's missing in the weeklies for me. A blank daily page is intimidating and I don't use them as much as I could, but a weekly column is sometimes just too small. I wish I could get a B6 vertical weekly booklet to supplement the daily planner so the daily doesn't go wasted if I decide I miss a weekly view. I suppose I'll probably buy an A5 compact as a compromise/just in I need to hop back into weekly option
