Ahh that 50h kneed's a new torque in a bad way? Jez I go balled driving that yoke in a few hrs. I used a single chop for two year's on a 168 my before we got the double chop and it was easy driven. Mowing in front of the double chop left it a bit easier on the tractor and we thought we were flying doing 10 acres a day.. The first silage we made was cut with a Cub International and a midmounted fingerbar mowing machine and we pushed into a pit at the end of the field with a cocklifter buck rake on a Ferguson 20 tvo/petrol for 5 years. Pure hardship & cover the pit with dung or sandbags. Then in winter cut in sections with a hayknife and a year later a friend of dad's made him a footknife which was a brilliant idea and easy on the back. Fork it into a transport box and bring back 5/6 boxes of silage in the transport box we got made 6×3 ×4 high of silage back to the yard about half a mile away to feed 20 cow's and 20 weanlings 7 DAYS a week after school in the 70s. No time for arseing around in our house?
Aye. I still have a shed that was my grandads first silo. Built in 1952. He used a grey fergie & a buckrake & cut it all out by hand to feed to 17 milking cows. In 1972 my dad replaced that with a 90x30ft self feed silo. These days they’re both used for wintering sheep & we use round bales. There’s no point in giving yourself extra work. I couldn’t help think that, watching these lads. Imagine trying to make silage like that in a wet season 😬
390T on PAVT wheels? unusual! God that fields hardship in itself....edit I take that back, the guy on the pit doesn't need to do Purgatory or Hell..he's been to both now...sweet fuck trying to make a pit with a 50B and a blunt parmitar shear grab they probably picked up in Cambridge auction 20 years ago. Fuck it, I'm going to the church in town now to say a few prayers for him just in case.
Had a single chop jf universal back in the early 90's, still miss it. Have to say that field wouldn't have said no to a run of a roller earlier in the year.
The guy on the pit looks terrified driving that bucket of shit 😂 at one stage he’s pulling every lever in the cab and there’s fuck all happening 😂😂 thanks for sharing I’m still laughing at it.
Reminds me of an outfit Pa heffernans old outfit decades ago. 2640 with a double chop, 188 with a flexi cab running with the trailers and a 50b up the pit.
mads lovely silage i bet ..........my wagon silage that was cut a week before is as good as i ever fed .......was mowed no more that a hour in advance due to the dry weather we had at the time , so was very close to single chop silage .
Clean cut from the j.f the 390t doing a super job ..why oh why do all the back Windows get broke in the massy's 🤔 as for the pit loader deffenitly needs more horsepower .😱 Well done doh 👍
Thought this would only be vintage, whilst good to see its unbelievable to see someone parking silage with a sheargrab with precision it's already difficult but on single chop. Love to see the pit finished?
No excuse in the world for such a blunt blade on a sheargrab. Any 4wd tractor on the pit would be better than the digger. Otherwise a cheap and cheerful and successful way to make silage. We did it singlechop when I was a kid. Can't beat a good wilt though
Nice video good to see old kit still earning it's keep Thank's
Was thinking clever low cost operation up until I saw the sheargrab on the 50H. What can one say, it speaks for itself!

Its forwards you need to go . Not backwards lad.. how many weeks does it take.. with all that scrap...

Filling the pit with a shear grab. Never seen it before 🤣. Worked one of them tarrup single chop. Made great silage. Great harvester in their day.
Great job only wont think a digger would be suited to pit especially with a shear grab

The guy on the pit dos,nt give a fuck, fair play to him,

first time i ever seen a shear grab putting up silage.its a new one
Nice crop was this 1986?
Your boy in the pit deserving of a medal
😂 tbh looks like he was getting a little help...
@Andrew Young for agreeing to being filmed
I think he might need a torque converter too 😆
@@greengrass6340 yes, the pit looking very well rolled
I wouldn't say the single chop had him under too much pressure just the same.
