  • From dense forests offering miles of winding trails- where it's told ghoulish creatures roam after dark, to aged prisons whose long dormant cells are stalked by the restless spirits of prisoners still serving time from beyond the grave. Are you ready to explore some of the most haunted places in New Jersey?

Just need to correct, Absecon is pronounced Ab-SEE-con. Also, not mentioned is the Lake House restaurant in Newfield, NJ, said to be the most haunted place in the state. Employees report seeing a women about the restaurant as well as odd sounds and clocks running strangely. The ghosts seem to be benevolent as no harm has ever happened to anyone. If nothing else it's a nice place to eat and has a nice view of Iona Lake. Eating outside on a summer's night is to die for.

I grew up near Jenny Jump - in Sussex County. The creepiest place in NJ that I remember was Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital. We used to drive by it on our way to our friends house - and I swear - even when it was still operating - in the middle of the day it was very scary. I don't know if its still in service - its been a long time.

Actually there are more scary places in NJ. You need to look into places in Cape May. There are places haunted there and the surrounding area. Also look into Leeds Point. It is where the Jersey Devil was born. There also a house in Pennsauken Nj that was built on supposedly Indian Burial ground. The house was built in 1695. It is surrounded by factories. I worked in the office near that house and we used have strange things happen. Twice the generator on the pole out side the office window caught on fire or just blew up. We had the machines in the plant stop working suddenly. It was just weird. New Jersey has so much history and haunted places. Great place to live

The paramount theatre/convention hall is one of New Jersey’s most haunted places spend an overnight there guarding Springsteens equipment from stage lights going on to water running upstairs to screams electrical devices malfunctioning to faces appearing on the curtains I would dare anyone to walk upstairs in that burned hallway office and bathroom no matter how tough or fearless you think you are bring five flashlights and they all will die and the fear you will face will stop you from walking down to where the dancers were trapped

Another great site is the Baylor Massacre Park in Bergen County. Our Revolutionary War soldiers camping there were ambushed and murdered by the British. Their bodies were buried under a millstone.
The park is actually lovely and shady with a monument to the dead soldiers. However it is said that the footsteps of the ambushing British can be heard through the woods.
