I have an in-tact male and got him as a baby pup. Trained him. He’s the BEST dog i’ve ever owned. He keeps me active and he’s so intelligent he’s like a buddy and is always on schedule.
I found an older neutered male Mal. at the animal shelter. He was so gentle, great on road trips, and he gave me no trouble. The one thing he did, in my defense was to stop a pushy drunk man from walking into our home late one Saturday afternoon. That fool came back with a sheriff"s deputy, when that deputy asked me what happened, then I explained, the deputy told me thank you and took the drunk to the holding cell to sober up. The following Monday, the deputy came back, asked me about my dog, so I got out the leash, we went into the back yard, and I showed him some of what my boy could do. The deputy assured me that my dog and I aren't in trouble with the law; but the drunk who was drunk and disorderly got county jail time. I miss my sweet dog, he was such a best boy.I look forward to meeting him again at the Rainbow Bridge.
I have one born 12/29/22 He was given to me when he was 4 months old and do not regret it. I have 2 acres of land in Texas. He's always outside loose protecting
my male belgian malinois puppy can get tired easily just by sitting outside for 20 minutes and throwing a ball. and no, belgian malinois are not a threat to young children. they have high protective instincts, they would be on watch 24/7 over the child.
No dogs should be left alone with toddlers. I have seen a 1,5y old girl who was bitten in several places in her arm by a chihuahua, she needed 30 stitches. I have two Malinois but I don’t leave them alone with my 2 and 3y old cousins, not because I don’t trust my Malinois, because I don’t trust toddlers. They can hurt the dogs by accident and you never know how a dog will react.
Okay, soapbox rant alert ahead: lol In general, it is frequently the humans old or young-that cross the boundaries of how to act with any sized canine/animal, but almost always the dogs that end up paying the price for the lack of supervision and/or training of the two by the adults. The questions every parent of any children and dog owners alike need to seriously ask themselves are: First, do you care about your children and/or your animals and want to avoid any costly mistakes and consequences? Of course, right?! Do you and will you seriously devote the time and dedication needed to watch and train both? If yes, then freaking supervise and teach education/training and reminders to both. Be consistent (children and animals alike) with BOTH praise and consequences. Children must learn to be kind emotionally and physically to all animals period or not be allowed contact until they do. Especially if you have young children, give pets frequent breaks from them to reduce irritation. Lastly, DEMAND from both appropriate RESPECT for each other. Yes, accidents and mistakes happen. Any child or adult can fall on a pet or step on a foot or tail that can cause ANY animal to react in a way that is unfortunate, but ADULTS be responsible/no excuses! AND lastly…plz for the love of God! Practice this yourself and teach your kids to FIRST ask permission to interact, and IF an owner says yes, HOW to interact with said animal. Animal owners: plz do not assume that every child or adult wants your animal to interact with them either!
I rescued a female Mal five years ago and she’s vocal, hyper, mouthy, bossy and an instigator. I rescued a male Mal a few weeks ago so they can keep each other company and he’s the opposite of her. He rarely barks, doesn’t like to play ball, isn’t mouthy and really laid back. 🤷♂️
I am a Dog Trainer for Service Dogs for the Elderly. I have trained 4 Belgian Maliois, 3 females and a Male. What I found is after the girls are spayed and the males are snipped, they seem to end up with a temperament relatively the same. My unconscious bias has manifested into using Females for this type work. The "Working Line" seems to be more amenable to Service Work than the "Show line". Females can be just as Aggressive and Domineering as the males. The bottom line is simple: give the dog a job and he/she will flourish into a confident super dog. The Malinois requires extensive training and time from the Alpha and would rarely work out as an apartment dog. Remember they are Field dogs. They are bred to be Herding dogs, Soldiers and Cops. These canine athletes are much more intelligent than we assume they are. Recognizing their signals is the key to success. I have had one for 11 years and she loves watching War Movies and Football games. I used the Animal Planet channel to watch lions and tigers to teach her how to hunt in a stealthy way and she did extremely well. The other female I have is just a cyclone of energy and I have to come up with ways to burn that off. She loves to work but not interested in TV learning.
I had a female first, then a male. They had 12 pups. I found homes for 11 and kept 1. I now have 3. Best dogs I've ever owned. They had me trained in no time. They also share their bed with me! The females are easier to train. My male is a hoss, they normally run around 70-80 lbs, he is 111. They say when these dogs are young and healthy, they can run about 35-40 mph, and have a bite of about 400+ lbs. Theyre very emotional as far as separation! For those that havent done the research, NO RAWHIDE, ever for any dog. Mine eat fresh cooked chicken or beef 7 days a week.
Not trying to argue, but Mals do not get to 111 pounds, unless the dog is obese. There must be something else mixed in there. Read the breed standards. My male is 80 pounds, which is also still larger than usual. Males are only supposed to be around 65 pounds. This is one reason soldiers prefer them, as the dog is small enough to be carried, and parachutes easier than a larger dog, such as the GSD. If yours is almost double normal size, there is a reason.
@famouskate9071 he's also almost 11 years old now. He not nor never has been a working dog. He is overweight. But I am sure of his lineage and blood line. He came from his breeder as an 8 week old pup that is involved in schutzhund competition. I would say inactivity is the biggest issue.

Guys, the key of owning such a dog is education. If you don’t educate kids they become little twats, same with dogs. A well trained Malinois is amazing with kids. But no one should leave little kids alone with any dog, always under surveillance.
You couldn't be more wrong, my dog is more trustworthy around my children than 99.999% of humans. She would give her life for her brother's without a nanosecond of hesitation. In fact, she would probably act and react before my brain can even process the danger!! Even the most "vicious" breeds are usually extremely loyal and protective of their family. They are pack animals by nature and understand the fragility of small children! Your comment makes me think that you probably don't even have a dog because you clearly don't know what you are talking about 🤷

Probably had a little German Shepherd. In Europe, I heard the they mix a pure pred Belgian Mal with German Shepherd every 2 or 3 generations to avoid inbreeding.
@@noah2339 nope, not with German Shepherds, than you no longer can speak of a Belgian Shepherd. When cross-breeded, it is usually done with Belgian Tervuren - Belgian Malinois, because both breeds are closest to each other.
I kind of feel like you are pigeon holing the male doggies..I feel ever one is a individual and training and patience is key to producing what you want, I found my male malinos in a Walmart dumpster and he's the best dog I've ever had..will hold the couch down all day sometime, smart, never nipped at my youngsters, loving will growl when I move him on the bed turn and lick me. A lot of this is true. This breed is not for everyone, but I am convinced at this point, that people that own these dogs are just telling other people not to get them because they want to feel special
The one I lived with was very smart and clearly on the doggie autistic spectrum. Sweet dog but over focused on things to obsession. High energy. Loved to fetch and wrestle.
To all the people commenting on the pronunciation… like do you not understand this isnt a human speaking but rather AI??? And because its not an english word its mispronouncing it??? So commenting on it is super pointless…. Like come on people… 🙄
Unfortunately AI is being introduced to schools to replace teachers. Our kids are gonna be talking rubbish by the time they leave school. My 6 Yr old grandson isn't being taught to write properly at school cos apparently they don't need to know as long as they can move their finger across the screen..... 🤷🙃🇬🇧
Everything on this list fits both Males and Females. I foster for a Malinois (Pronounced Mal-in-Wa) rescue and have had many dogs come through my door who had bad breeding, bad socialization, no training, ect. Interestingly though, they are very adaptable and with the right training and structure can bounce back from their start in life. There is no magic button with them though, you need to be consistently consistent with your consistency when it comes to them. I absolutely love the breed and helping them blossom into the right dog for the right home, but they aren't for everyone so research research research, and be honest with yourself on your lifestyle. To keep it real, I have had Mals in my life for almost 20 years, but my current 2 dogs (14 yrs old, 6 yrs old) will probably be my last Mals. I don't have the super active lifestyle I had or my own energy levels to keep up, while I love the breed I will probably go with herding breed that is a bit lower in the energy level.
Yes, the main factor is ageing, which must be factored. 1-3 years implusive; 3-6 years the mind and thinking pops, has more free house stuff; past 6 on senior diet and full house freedom except in wire bedroom crate so that he won't be stepped on if we get up in the night. The main aspect is that these, like all dogs, MUST be around their handler and want to be near handler 24/7. That right there is hard on most that don't have a K9 sense; these love to lick their handler as that's important to them for whatever reason; These are sharp when injured so handler will catch a nice nip when sorting out an injury so I keep soft muzzle nearby. I do not correct on nips, play or injury. Bottom line, these are sweet dogs mixed with some stubborn attitude focused upon whatever, very smart yet often silly dumb. :)
I don't want to say all this is true but it is very accurate information atleast in my experience as she said though with the right training and socialization they do make amazing dogs but it is more work than most people can imagine even for experienced dog owners they are more work than any other breed ive owned but I had a good understanding of this and now love the breed definitely wouldn't recommend to a novice dog owner or someone who expects an average dog to play and train with
I have male and a female. (…yeah!) As I have found They differ, but they just have different characteristics, style and personalities about them. Males ‘tend’ to need a firmer command regime and best not let slip in training. Females seem to be everything else literally..😂 my girl is amazing! My boy is up close and personal. Very obedient. My girl is literally a fur missile. Both are Gators lol 😂
Here’s a Thought…….Don’t get a Mali if 1- you have never had a dog 2- if you are insecure 3, if your time poor 4, If you haven’t a clue on training 5, Don’t socialise with children at all ages …..and get the kids to respect the dog 6, Always , Always have a Cat in the home first and manage the introduction to the pup , not a full grown dog that’s just plain silly …..7 I don’t know everything …I know somethings ….But Key to Everything is Training , Exercise, Rest , consistency and Patience….lots of Patience….oh and of course one day prepare for your heart to be broken ……don’t sit looking at that empty cage hopefully that Mali did a good job training you for the next one.❤
Literally, every dog on the planet can be a problem. It's about the owners and training. The title should be, "does a belgian malinois fit your lifestyle."
I'm sitting on my couch with my AKC female daughter of French ring champions Belgian Malinois and she is the calmest dog I've ever had. She has not done any of the stuff this women is talking about. Almost any dog breed if u don't have them professionally trained as puppies before u bring them home is gonna destroy furniture. I got mine from a breeder who bred a more higher energy dog for law enforcement and he bred calm ones for civilians. Its very easy to reverse the breeding, just take 2 Malinois that are calm and breed them together and u r likely going to get calm puppies. This slanderous BS about the Malinois breed is getting out of hand and ridiculous!!!!!!! I'm tired of people putting these videos on youtube bashing the Malinois breed. RUclips has become a breeding ground for false information!!!!!!!! First of all the narrator can't even pronounce the name of the breed properly so what does that tell you?? Its tells u she is full of crap!!!! The Malinois is the best dog to have if u have it professionally trained before u bring it home..
I got what I thought was a German shepherd puppy turns out she is a malinois x German shepherd more mal then Shepard she is extremely intelligent and when she gets a idea she just does it and has to be corrected immediately very high energy 4 am wake up time with breakfast and then outside for zoomies AT 4am…. I also have a cane corso she actually does run circles around him he just sits and waits for her to stop being annoying he like the rest of us are still half asleep my poor boy 😂 I love them both….. both are good with my kids my mal x is so good never had to correct her with the kids now my cane corso had some resource guarding issues with my older 2 kids as a 8 week old puppy and I worked with him to correct that and he has been great ever sense but that would be something that would scare alot of people and definitely takes a solid confident owner for either breed one could run across America and the other will have you in the kennel if you don’t stay on top of training
That’s so crazy I also thought I was getting a German shepherd and ended up being Mali and gs and I also have a mixed breed Cordova and my Mali also wakes up at about 5 am…. What a coincidence
please stop calling this breed a Belgian Malinoi ... it is pronounced correctly "ma-li-nwa" and its true name is Belgian Shepherd. just like Lamborkini it is "lam-bor-jini" you don't make it right by having everyone to pronounce it wrong. most of your content is correct, but difference between male and female is all not so big as referred to by you in the vid. there is a difference between high-drive personality and lower-drive personality, reason why it is always advisable to get your Belgian Shepherd from a breeder who knows what he is doing with these dogs. this is not a show-dog to get into your house just to show off to your friends. they ask for an intelligent and consistent owner which will guide them in every step of their educaction. these dogs are excellent companions and literally walk through fire to rescue their owner, if educated and treated correctly, like every other dog by the way !
Do you want to see mine?? how many have you had ONE?? smart one. Mine is an excellent protection dog but is happy to sit around the house like any other dog.
Before you start telling people about a dog breed you should at least show respect by learning how to pronounce their name or you come across as a fool , , It is pronounced "MAL-IN-WAH"
First of all you can’t even pronounce the name. I’ve had 3 Mals. 2 males and one female. The males were far superior to the female. Males just want to shadow you 24/7. As long as they can stay in your presence there are no problems. Never aggressive unless someone threatened me. Even then they just draw near to my side. The only time I had trouble with “herding” was with the female Mal. She also nipped at the kids bc the mom was using coconut oil on them and they tasted good to her. She had been given little bits of coconut oil as a treat for several years before encountering the children. Yes, we did decide to keep her away. Both males and females have a strong prey drive. My Malinois boys have been the best dogs I’ve ever had! I always have them one at a time and that is best for me. Two Mals would be a lot bc they really need to be with you all the time. Actually they are not very independent as they must keep me in sight at all times or they get chirpy. Two different males at different times both very needy. These are incredibly smart and intuitive dogs. They literally will breathe with you at your pace. Love these dogs so much but they are not for everyone. If you need to be apart from the dog alot it isn’t for you. This is a strong companion dog.
Do you want to see mine?? how many have you had ONE?? smart one. Mine is an excellent protection dog but is happy to sit around the house like any other dog. ALSO, females can be MORE active than males where did you get this inaccurate info??
The fact the narrator can't even pronounce the breed right tells be everything I need to not take this video serious. I can't believe the videos and advice people give on this breed and have no f'ing clue on how to pronounce the name right.
this is BS.. females and males are relatively the same personality. All the traits they say about male Malinois are traits of the breed. The best dogs ever!! .
1 reason to not listen to this dumb video. It doesn't matter, both sides can be insane or the best dog you've ever owned. It's all down to training and educating your dog. Own a male malinois and he couldn't be more of a teddy bear.
One of the languages of Belgium is French. "Malinois" isn't pronounced like "Illinois". It's pronounced mal-uhn-waa. Please google "malinois pronunciation", which you should have done before mispronouncing it throughout this video on the Belgian Malinois.
Some days I am glad I am deaf so I didn't have to listen to the miss pronunciation of the name. So I shouldn't own a male. I am enjoying life with my second one. I am 70 years old. They keep me Young and active. You don't have a clue what the Hell you are talking about.

I'm not going to give much merit to someone's take on a breed if they can't even pronounce the name of the breed correctly.
I always take advice from people who can’t even pronounce the name of the dog breed 🤣
These dogs adapt to any situation. Owner-. Unable to walk. Mine is patient. Completely false. He's a good house dog.
Try groenendaels , lower key, lots of hair.
They can also be a problem with neighbors animals when owners do not stimulate them, or train them to stay in their own yard .
It’s perfect for me the male Belgian malinois dog
There are experienced dog trainers sharing content on RUclips, why would you watch a trash video like that with AI voice on top of some images
I don't want to say all this is true but it is very accurate information atleast in my experience as she said though with the right training and socialization they do make amazing dogs but it is more work than most people can imagine even for experienced dog owners they are more work than any other breed ive owned but I had a good understanding of this and now love the breed definitely wouldn't recommend to a novice dog owner or someone who expects an average dog to play and train with
Beautiful dog. Unfortunately, I don’t have the energy for one.
Really the selection of a good breeder & proper training are way more important than the sex
Yeah, both have tons of energy, I prefere a male
You don't get to tell me anything about a dog when you can't pronounce the name.
Its all in the training
Totally agree
I see nothing but typical info that applies not just to males but to the entire breed and to a lot of other shepherds high energy breeds too...
I have male and a female.
(…yeah!)
As I have found
They differ, but they just have different characteristics, style and personalities about them.
Males ‘tend’ to need a firmer command regime and best not let slip in training.
Females seem to be everything else literally..😂 my girl is amazing!
My boy is up close and personal.
Very obedient.
My girl is literally a fur missile.
Both are Gators lol 😂
Pronunciation: MAL-AN-WAH
I was going to say the same thing why make a video if you can't even say the dog's name right LOL😂 (mal-en-wa)
You also showed a lot of german shepherds in this video,😂
Male Belgian Malinois: Did you just assumed my gender?
I've got a all black male and a female Mali light body black mask I've had no problems with any of them but I do run them twice daily
Literally, every dog on the planet can be a problem. It's about the owners and training. The title should be, "does a belgian malinois fit your lifestyle."
Mal in wa !
OP pronounced Malinois correct. French; Same as Illinois. Not Ill in wa. But I never correct and most just label them as Gnaw. :)
Malinois is really pronounced Malinwa. Not like Illinois. I’m a bilingual Belgian so I actually know how to pronounce it correctly 😅
It's pronounced ma lin wa .
I have a male Mal.. love him, young kids and wife love him also. But, somehow, some way, at some time... they will accidentally hurt you
I actually have Belgian Malinos She's a female. We love her a lot except for my mom doesn't really care for Zoe.
These dogs are wound up. I use a ball flinger and play ball until he doesn't bring it back LOL. He loves to run. Evenings too.
I have a female and the females are complicated im doing all the training myself snd sometimes i wanna give up not for the weak
My almost 90lb male is my best pal.
Wrong you should get one its the best protective dog 👍👍
I will only EVER own Males, bigger, better looking, easier to train.
My LunaBella is a good girl overall. She demands her daily exercise, though. She loves to be chased🤭
PLEASE PRONOUNCE THE BREED’s NAME CORRECTLY!!!
We're still getting a malinoir...
i love malinois
Pronunciation: mal-uhn-WAH. The breed does not rhyme with "Illinois."
please stop calling this breed a Belgian Malinoi ... it is pronounced correctly "ma-li-nwa" and its true name is Belgian Shepherd.
just like Lamborkini it is "lam-bor-jini"
you don't make it right by having everyone to pronounce it wrong.
most of your content is correct, but difference between male and female is all not so big as referred to by you in the vid.
there is a difference between high-drive personality and lower-drive personality, reason why it is always advisable to get your Belgian Shepherd from a breeder who knows what he is doing with these dogs. this is not a show-dog to get into your house just to show off to your friends. they ask for an intelligent and consistent owner which will guide them in every step of their educaction. these dogs are excellent companions and literally walk through fire to rescue their owner, if educated and treated correctly, like every other dog by the way !
These dogs are the best in the world you dont know what you talk about
Do you want to see mine?? how many have you had ONE?? smart one. Mine is an excellent protection dog but is happy to sit around the house like any other dog.
Before you start telling people about a dog breed you should at least show respect by learning how to pronounce their name or you come across as a fool ,
, It is pronounced "MAL-IN-WAH"
I wish ppl would stop dissing my dog. Get a life.
Belgium melonwhy Melonwee melonwuh melatonin melon melonee Griffith. I think she got em all.
Should we take advice from a person who can't pronounce the dogs breed name
this is BS.. females and males are relatively the same personality.
All the traits they say about male Malinois are traits of the breed.
The best dogs ever!!
.
This is based on opinions at this point and no experience what so ever
1 reason to not listen to this dumb video.
It doesn't matter, both sides can be insane or the best dog you've ever owned. It's all down to training and educating your dog.
Own a male malinois and he couldn't be more of a teddy bear.
❤❤❤
One of the languages of Belgium is French. "Malinois" isn't pronounced like "Illinois". It's pronounced mal-uhn-waa. Please google "malinois pronunciation", which you should have done before mispronouncing it throughout this video on the Belgian Malinois.
I think the voice may be AI and as the script is in English it pronounces as it would be pronounced in English and not French.
This dog is a pain in the S. Seriously. I love them though
wat do u know im a belgian guy we know better how to treat and train our dogs we have belgian malinois
I can do that....
Its hard for AI to pronounce some words. Im fairly sure this is AI.
Mal in noy?
Some days I am glad I am deaf so I didn't have to listen to the miss pronunciation of the name. So I shouldn't own a male. I am enjoying life with my second one. I am 70 years old. They keep me Young and active. You don't have a clue what the Hell you are talking about.
