I have had my 2005 Yellow GTO 6 speed over 9 years now. Never regretted buying it. When I take it out of my garage and go cruising my mind goes into feel good time, by the time I get back home I feel no stress
Got my '05 just a few months ago. Red, bone-stock, one (woman) owner. Externally, it looks exactly like the car in this video. Needed some catch-up maintenance (carrier bearing, brakes and slave cylinder) Now this 14-year-old car runs and rides like new. Loads of power yet gets very good mileage if you use cruise control a lot like me. I love it so far and if the comments are any indication, I'm gonna love it for a long long time to come. Looking forward to it. Thanks for the video.
I started obsessing over these gtos about a week ago when I realized I could actually afford one of these sometime in the near future and still keep my truck. I'm also the kind of person who always likes to have cool shit nobody else apreciates.
I have had my GTO for over 8 years '05, I always get complements whenever I take it out. One of the best cars I have ever owned and I have had plenty. Other cars have come and gone and I still keep the Goat.
The Monaro was based on the Opel Omega platform, which was designed in the mid-late 90's, and that platform was used on Commodores as well until 2006, so saying it's "Commodore based" is sorta correct, since the Monaro was a spin-off of the Commodore line at the time, and allowed the resurrection of Monaro name that hadn't been used since 1977. Ironic that Pontiac used it to resurrect the GTO nameplate as well, ain't it?. The Zeta platform used in the G8 was designed entirely by Holden, and with some incremental improvements over the years it went on to underpin the 2010-2015 Camaro, the 2014-2017 Chevy SS sedan, and of course is the basis for the entire Holden RWD car lineup today.
Wait, so you're saying my red, white and blue custom 2010 SS with stars and stripes motif on the leather is based on Australian designed underpinnings? Yeah, whatever. Next you'll tell me the cars exterior was designed by a guy born and raised in Korea (Sangyup Lee) who never even saw a Camaro until he was 20. It's like an apple pie made with fuji apples or worse, a PB&J with Vegemite subbed for the PB.
+tmmurphy If a vegimite PB&J is half as good as this thing count me in. Didn't know about the designer, that actually makes it cooler when you think about it lol
Of course my comment was tongue in cheek. I think my first all American Trans Am was built in Canada. I just notice many people bash the GTO because of it's origins while not realizing the more retro Camaro is just as foreign as the GTO. BTW I typed vegemite into Google to check my spelling and a recipe for Cheesymite Scrolls came up. Count me in as well.
I'm so lucky to own my 2004 GTO at such a young age..I love everything about the car..and yes the seats are so comfortable..sat for over 4 hours in them one day and never got uncomfortable once..they really are a special car and more people are starting to notice them now that they are getting harder to find..proud owner
I drove mine from Tampa, Florida to Hartford, Connecticut. 12 hours in a day, twice. The seats were fantastic the whole time, and I'm closer to 300 pounds than 200. I have yet to experience better seats in any car below $75K.
I always loved the styling of this GTO. The problem was Ford released the retro futuristic Mustang in 2004 as a 2005 model and people are all in about. Camaro and challenger follow suit years later. If only this was launched earlier than ‘04 it would’ve made alot of sense. Still a great car, good interior materials, great bucket seats, powerful LS motor just needs wider tires.
There's quite a few on the market for sale. Bad thing is, since it is a sports car, you never know if they're still in good shape even if they do have low miles or if they've been driven to the ground without any care
I own a 2005 M6, w/42k miles that I have owned since new. It's quiet, comfortable and fast. The best interior I had encountered up until then, I have 7 late model muscle cars, the seats are still my favorite. In 12 years the only repair has been a throttle body. And here's the best part, nobody knows what it is. Cops don't see it, ricers don't see it, I'm left alone. All for $30k. I doubt I'll ever sell it.
I bought mines a few weeks ago! First order of business was replacing the LS1 with a LS3 (with Howards ASA cam). It already had a 05/06 hood, and soon I will put CTSV calipers on it and coilovers. Love the car!!!
Love, love, LOVE my 2004 GTO. Love that beast. Some may call it a Grand Prix, or a "Bloated Cavalier" or even a Civic (::shudders at the ignorance::). But as soon as my foot hits that throttle.... all I see is little cars in my mirror that says "Objects behind you are losing"
I really enjoy cars like this, the G8, and the Chevy SS. It's about as reliable as 350+ horsepower gets, and performs without demanding that you look at it or know that it can perform just by a glance at the body design.
Big- Actually the GTO started out as a German Opel Omega. The GTO/Monaro is the Opel Omega coupe'. The older Opel Omega sedan was actually also imported to the U.S. years earlier but it was badged as a Cadillac. The Cadillac Catera. The GTO/Monaro is a European platform with American guts. It's styling actually comes from wind tunnel testing and taking cues from the BMW 3 series coupe. It has the same timeless simple design that BMW has used for years. It's ment to look classy not flashy. Americans are used to loud, in your face, bad attitude looking sports cars.
Question for all the Goat fans out there. I am seriously looking at getting an '06. Thing is, I'm a big guy. 6' 4" and about 260... ish... Anyway, how's the head and leg room?
Great video. They are very good cars in the hands of the right people. I really enjoy mine but it is so unpredictable as to hooking up. Kind of scary a few times.
I love the styling about which I have always said that it “both blends in and stands out”. they are beautiful, done right. however, your description as “subdued aggression” and “sleeper that does not look like a sleeper” is in essence very similar to mine, in different words. anyway, very cool video.
I love my little bloated Cavalier, lol! 04 GTO w/pacesetter headers, 243 CNC ported trick flow heads, High flow CATs, K/N cold air kit, 87mm throttle body, 87 mm MAF, X-pipe w/ muffler and resonator delete, duals out both sides, Aftermarket Duroflex hood, comp. XE-R 595/598, Custom Tune LS1 Edit. She whips ass!
I've owned my 06 for 14 years and wouldn't sell it for anything It's brazen metallic orange and there are a lot of people who want to buy it not for sale
How much does it cost to trick out the motor like that? And was there different models in the 06 family like in previous versions... I heard something about RA6 or is that some kind concept car after market...
Great review. But when you are talking horsepower and you are going to say neighborhood you're not suppose to give the exact hp number. You say neighborhood to give a general number/rough estimate, like a ballpark number.
Neil Bullock I tell ya man, this is just a really well done video. Also you got that Morgan Freeman type of voice commentating.. Just really makes you pay attention. Mine is a 04 Barbados Blue, just under 54k miles.
What size magnuson super charger? I'm curious, and what other mods to get to that RWHP? I have an 05, with all kinds of mods done to it. I'm trying to get to 700 or 800 RWHP. Right now I have a little over 600 I believe, of course different Dyno's say different numbers.
+Mick Buffalo Hey Mark! I'm not sure right off the bat but I see the owner regularly, I'll ask and let you know! That should be an easy number, I've seen a few that push over 1,000 with rear mounted turbos, what all have you done to your car?
o6 is the best.... I had LAPD moto cop pull up aside of me and ask me some questions about it I thought he wanted to pull me over foe my STRAIT pipes lol.. he said I wouldn't sell it them he rode off....
It was a car and driver magazine I read as a kid and somehow that one line stuck with me and is really the reason I loved the GTO! I looked and looked for that magazine to give it proper reference but I couldn't find it, that was you? This is too cool!
+Shooting Cars -lol. wow! that is cool. i have that mag around here somewhere. couldn't remember if it was car/driver or road/track when i commented. might have been 2005, not 2006. i'll have to dig it out. small world, man! i like the gto's, too.
+bmp-226 Do you have one? They're awesome to drive! I'm really curious about the new Chevy SS because it works under the same captive import principle as the GTO and G8.
+Shooting Cars -i came so close to buying one, but didn't. waited and bought a new 2010 camaro ss. basically the same architecture as the gto and g8. still have it. love it but still have a desire for the goat. lol....found the mag. car/driver original gto review-jan 2005/my letter-april 2005.
See, the owner of this car was looking for something to replace his 55' chevy but wanted something new that he could take to cruise ins and stuff that would stand out because down here (Louisiana) there aren't many of them around. Whats your thoughts about the new Camaro? I've driven one of the ones like you have (it was a 2014 SS 1LE), and it was a great car, I really hope they keep the feel of it, it felt solid and with the 1LE package it handled so much better than it should have.
I'm currently hesitating between a 68-72 Chevy Nova, or a 2005-2006 GTO Manual... (I know, 2 different muscle cars from 2 different eras) you kinda convinced me to get the gto...
That's really a matter of taste. I would go GTO all the way simply because they're just about as rare as old muscle but they're much more dependable, comfortable and you can daily them while making huge numbers without freaking out over every little noise. let me know what you end up with!
Shooting Cars I was pretty sure I was gonna get myself that Nova, because i'm all into the old school style, and nova is cheaper than other 70's chevelles or challengers, but the more i watch videos of that GTO, the more i want it. That freaking GTO is growing on me. And yeah, it's probably way more reliable than any other old school muscle cars. What I love about it, is that they give the option between automatic or manual. I've been dying to get a manual, which is hard to find in old ones.
And most of these were in fact made with a stick shift (it's a little sloppy but that can be fixed I've heard) plus decent examples of Gto can be had for less than 20 thousand!
+bobbycone2 Unfortunately he sold this one (sad day!) but even though I filmed this almost two years ago it's still one of my absolute favorites! Keep a hold of yours!! These are highly under appreciated!
I'll never understand why so many hate on the 04-06 GTO. True it could have been done better as in the SAP should have been standard equipment. I guess the modern goat getting called a civic is equivalent to me being asked if I was riding around in a neon and me in my G8 GT. A 4 grand rev made the drive through worker rethink his question. I'd love to have that setup under the hood of mine.
It simply because the retro mustang came out about the same time, how do you like your G8? I've never driven a G8 or SS. And that set up makes insane power, and with the supercharger it's in an instant!
I put a 05/06 hood on my 04 and replaced the LS1 with a LS3. Those two things I changed are the reasons I can see why people stay away from the 2004s.Some like the 04 bumpers, but I will soon replace mines as well, I like the dual exit exhaust look better,
+The RedHulk Trust me, they have no clue if they say that lol it handles and drives better than a 5th Gen Camaro in my opinion and even stock they've got more than enough power to get you in trouble. Plus side they're getting so cheap it's almost criminal, just try and find a good solid one with records for everything because a bad one can break the bank in parts alone. Just about everything but the LS parts (and even some of those) generally have to come from Australia!
+CJ Pr I really miss this car, it was my father in laws and one of the first ones I ever filmed. Like you said it was such a special car, he sold it about a year and a half ago
Own a 2006 40k miles I baby it lol. Everytime I take it out someone is stopping me to compliment it not sure why nobody likes the look of it. Getting long tube headers and xpipe slapped on it next week
Why did some one who dosnt know anything about the new gen GTO reviewing it?! So many technical errors. This was hard to watch. That granny shifting was extremely painful too.
That's my favorite thing about it! But unfortunately it came out about the same time as the retro 05 mustang. People wanted style over substance, the mustang sold like faster than a new iPhone while the GTO sold in such small quantities they stopped importing them after three years.
if this gto was designed like this in the 1960's they would have sold by the millions i like the design i own a 06 brazen orange one lots of people want to buy it off me
If you're going to do a review its unfair to use a highly modded example of it and constantly flex it for that fact. Its only acceptable to use one with mildly common mods to get a common scope of what 95% of gtos are out there. Ive ran into one or two ppl that scharging totally destroyed their car and the one guy was even parting his low mile gto out after he couldnt get it to run right.
+jvthegr81 all I know is that they're made by Axis, don't know the name of those in particular. I'd check the car but the owner sold it last month, sorry!
+Shooting Cars Yea installed a cam(vrx5) with supporting mods, ported fast 102, NW 102 throttle body, vararam intake, fast fuel rails, 42lbs injectors,headers,h-pipe,kooks axleback exhaust ,25% underdrive pulley, spec 2 clutch and tick master cylinder and holley valve covers lol. had it for 2 years now and I wouldn't trade it for anything else :)
Man seriously! Not trying to b a ASS but dam. Yall come to South GA. Ive got several GTO'S . All nitrous or FI. Im just saying Cairo GA has the fastest GTO on the street and been Proven over 100 times.BUILT IN BACKS YARDS. come seen us u would enjoy the storys behind these master pieces,

Haha these things are awesome aren’t they? Good luck finding one that hasn’t been driven into the ground though 😕
I assume it needs high octane
Saving up for 05 or 06 gto dream car and i dont get why people always tell me they are slow yet they drive a little Honda civic.
+Shooting Cars very true sir im financing for one idgaf
Man I hope one day I get to cop me one fr it’s been my dream car along with the g8 v8 either one will do 😎
now I don't get insulted when someone says nice Holden, which I have had only 1 person refer to it as a holden
I miss my 06 m6 pbm. but I love my 05 m6 torrid. got it with decent mileage too. 45k to be exact
i dont get it the gto has 400hp stock yet its classified as a luxury vehicle..nice ride btw
good review. that shifting though 😞
more aggressive cam* not cams
+CJ Pr Haha yea, I made a rookie mistake on this video... well 200 and some odd videos later I still sometimes make mistakes lol
Shooting Cars. It's all good, I look at at details too much possibly, which makes this car so special to me though
+CJ Pr I really miss this car, it was my father in laws and one of the first ones I ever filmed. Like you said it was such a special car, he sold it about a year and a half ago
I really want a 06 gto! I almost bought a 01 cobra but i think i might get the goat
Don't get an 01 cobra, too slow, only get the 03 or 04
It wasnt bad i wouldnt call it slow, but the 03 cobra def faster! Cant afford a 03 right now! Lol
if you still haven't bought a car get the GTO I own one and it's better than a cobra in every way.
It started Life as a Holden Monaro not a commodore, the Commodore is a 4 door.
Still got mine and love it !!
Own a 2006 40k miles I baby it lol. Everytime I take it out someone is stopping me to compliment it not sure why nobody likes the look of it. Getting long tube headers and xpipe slapped on it next week
Can we hear the car while it's shifting
+Shooting Cars what cam is in this gto?
I'm not 100% sure, let me ask the owner and I'll let you know!
thanks
What you doing
My dreamcar, as in one I could ACTUALLY afford. Unfortunately being a father of 5 has its drawbacks when considering a vehicle upgrade
Is a cam. Not cams.
thanks. beautiful GTO
+nick Yanez it was my father in laws, unfortunately he sold it about 6 months back
What wheels are those
jreed3504 I believe they're from AXIS but I will ask to be sure. They look great on this car!
im From UK 04/05 is just like the CV8 apart from grill.same body kit
Why did some one who dosnt know anything about the new gen GTO reviewing it?! So many technical errors. This was hard to watch. That granny shifting was extremely painful too.
why am I hearing that people are calling this car a civic? I don't get it. someone explain
Well, it's simply the styling. While I love it there's millions who claim it looks kind of bland, like a contemporary honda.
Shooting Cars the fuck? This car looks awesome. And I thought the point of this car was to not be so out there
That's my favorite thing about it! But unfortunately it came out about the same time as the retro 05 mustang. People wanted style over substance, the mustang sold like faster than a new iPhone while the GTO sold in such small quantities they stopped importing them after three years.
Shooting Cars I bet they only bought it because it said mustang on it
Ha! It's a possibility. The mustang was actually cheaper (though less powerful) which probably helped sales.
Man I hope to own one of these.
Although still happy with my 02 Grand Prix GTP. Shes serving me fine and dandy.
+Nikko G You and me both bro
love my 2005 6 speed 63k miles on it they're special indeed
I have my 06 67,000 miles. Absolutely Awesome 😎. I love It
someone called my gto a g6..I was like really, they look nothing alike
if this gto was designed like this in the 1960's they would have sold by the millions i like the design i own a 06 brazen orange one lots of people want to buy it off me
I LOOOOOOVE MA GOAT!!...never gettin rid of her either
BMW, G6, Eclipse as some I've heard. I love my sleeper.
I've seen some of these that have twin turbo set ups that push 1000 hp, it's gotta be the sleeper champ
g6 what?
Pontiac I'd imagine, I think the only other G6 I've ever heard of is a jet lol. That would be an awesome mistake lol
I own a g6. You can't do crap to it. Just to turbo it would be 10k+
I have 2005 Gto for sale 81000 mileage for $13000 automatic transmission
I have an 05 CGM
god ur trying way to hard to make quotes. just stop and talk about the cars normally.
I am so sorry to correct you but the Pontiac GTO was originally a Holden Manero.
+LS260GTO MIY Rookie mistake! Is that yours in your thumbnail?
Rubbery gearbox lol it's a t56 gearbox, you can't get a more mechanical clunky, sure footed shift if you tried, more like a rubbery clutch leg.
Can’t believe how cheap these are for the amount of power they have
Someone once asked me if my 06 BOM was a mustang smh The irony!
Don't forget the Model T
If you're going to do a review its unfair to use a highly modded example of it and constantly flex it for that fact. Its only acceptable to use one with mildly common mods to get a common scope of what 95% of gtos are out there. Ive ran into one or two ppl that scharging totally destroyed their car and the one guy was even parting his low mile gto out after he couldnt get it to run right.
Should have had the word MODIFIED in the video description...plus that helium voice of cars that it was faster than....FAIL !!!
This not a Holden Commodore, this is a Holden Monaro!
Hey mate don't forget the Monaros was born from the VT Commodore so in a sense is partly right
You're a great story teller.
Thanks! I'm always trying to improve.
+Isaias Garcia Check out my burnout vid of a GTO on my channel.
"let's review a car based on a highly modified example...." kind of unhelpful
name of those rims please lol
+jvthegr81 all I know is that they're made by Axis, don't know the name of those in particular. I'd check the car but the owner sold it last month, sorry!
+jvthegr81 Axis Shine!
+Shooting Cars. thank you
1:54 to skip to the review
Cam* not cams ;)
someone called my gto a civic too -__-
I've never once looked at this car and gone "yep, that's totally a honda..." I don't get it...is yours the LS1 or LS2?
+Shooting Cars LS2
Done any mods to it? How do you like it?
+Shooting Cars Yea installed a cam(vrx5) with supporting mods, ported fast 102, NW 102 throttle body, vararam intake, fast fuel rails, 42lbs injectors,headers,h-pipe,kooks axleback exhaust ,25% underdrive pulley, spec 2 clutch and tick master cylinder and holley valve covers lol. had it for 2 years now and I wouldn't trade it for anything else :)
I bet that thing sounds like a beast! Keep it up, someone has to keep these awesome cars going!
gm made buick so no the got does not have a better seat than a buick bench
+Damien Gregory Never tested out a bench seat Buick, I imagine it's verging on couch levels of comfort though!
Monaro
Man seriously! Not trying to b a ASS but dam. Yall come to South GA. Ive got several GTO'S . All nitrous or FI. Im just saying Cairo GA has the fastest GTO on the street and been Proven over 100 times.BUILT IN BACKS YARDS. come seen us u would enjoy the storys behind these master pieces,
Every car guy would know what a gto is lol!!
I have one and I love it🐐🐐🐐
Is yours a 5.7 or a 6 liter?
+Shooting Cars 2006 6.0L with the T56 six speed manual, spice read and the optional 18 inch alloy wheels.
