1.Hail the day so long expected!
Hail the year of full release!
    Zion's walls are now erected,
    And her watchmen publish peace:
From the distant coasts of Shinar,
    The shrill trumpet loudly roars
Refrain: Babylon is fallen! is fallen! is fallen!
Babylon is fallen to rise no more.
    2. Hark, and hear her people crying,
    "See the city disappear!
Trade and traffic all are dying!
Lo, we sink and perish here!"
Sailors who have bought her traffic,
    Crying from her distant shore,
    Refrain
    3. All her merchants cry with wonder,
"What is this that's come to pass?"
    Murm'ring like the distant thunder
    Crying out, Alas! Alas!
Swell the sound, ye kings and nobles!
Priests and people, rich and poor!
    Refrain
    4. Lo, the captives are returning!
Up to Zion see them fly!
While the smoke of Babel's burning
    Rolls across the darken'd sky!
Days of mourning now are ended,
Years of bondage now are o'er,
    Refrain
    5. Zion's children raise your voices,
    And the joyful news proclaim!
    How the heavenly host rejoices!
Shout and echo back the same!
See the ancients of the city,
    Terrify'd at the uproar!
    Refrain
    6. Tune your harps, ye heavenly choir!
Shout, ye foll'wers of the Lamb!
See the city all on fire!
Clap your hands and blow the flame!
    Now's the day of compensation
    On the scarlet colour'd whore;

I grew up a Jew among congregationalist puritan protestants, attended their church services as a guest from time to time. Most of their hymnals were dull affairs, but in this one I recognize a bit of my own faith, and it lives in my heart forever. Babylon is fallen to rise no more! ✡️✝️☪️

One of my favorite shape note tunes from the Sacred Harp (if you haven't heard shape singers i highly recommend it, especially this song). This is a slightly different tune but recognizable. From what i gather, the tune is from the English Civil War (which explains the military marching rhythm), but the wires i if the hymn were set to the tune in America, which was a common practice with secular tunes in the early 19th century (one of the other tunes is what we call "Auld Lang Sign", which is actually a poem set to an old Irish tune called "Old Grimes Is Dead". The exact setting in the Sacred Harp is attribute to a Canadian, a certain Chute, still haven't been able to figure out if he took the old tune and set the words to them, or if he just arranged an existing tradition and wrote parts for harmonization.
Which of course strictly speaking means that this isn't actually the tune from the English Civil War at all, since the words don't belong to the tune, and this isn't exactly the same tune as the words were set to.
If you dig this tune i also recommend the tune JEFFERSON from the Sacred Harp, it is very similar. And i have reason to believe that is actually a tune that goes back to the medieval era.

I imagine the lyrics to this edition are much later than the Swan Arcade version most have probs heard here, the reference to the Rapture dates the lyrics to probably mid 19thc given it's a theological concept that only became prominent in evangelical groups around then, especially in the US.

"And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory. And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies."
-- Even so, come Lord Jesus --
" Blow the trumpet on Mt Zion
Christ shall come a second time
Ruling with a rod of iron
All who now as foes combine
    Fables garment sweet rejected
    And our fellowship is o'er.
Babylon is fallen is fallen is fallen.
Babylon is fallen to rise no more." (Lost last verse)
