Town fan here. Well done for putting this up, I can sense your pain. Very honest assessment, I do also think you controlled large parts of the game. Was surprised when Fraser was subbed, he was casing us problems and like you don't understand why KWP doesn't see action. I do fear for you the rest of the season, Blackburn away won't be easy, they're a much better side than the league suggests and we all know you have to go to Leeds and Leicester (i'll be cheering you on then obviously). Good luck for the rest of the season especially if you meet Norwich in the playoffs. You never know you may get to exact your revenge on us.......I really hope not though.

Well done for not being too salty about this and giving a fairly honest analysis. I agree with other ITFC fans in saying Southampton and Leeds are the two best teams seen at P. Road this season. We gave so much fight and spirit in the club; this makes us hard to beat. Downes a handy player for you to have.

Full disclosure-True Blue! It's really interesting to see last night's game from the away fans' perspective. I share many thoughts below. Probably the best game and result so far this season. For me, very little to choose between Leeds, Leicester & Southampton in terms of quality at Portman Road this season.
Southampton were the better team on the night, with so many quality players, and possibly a draw would have been a harsh result for you.
However, there is something MAGIC happening at ITFC this season, some colliding of planets or something. Even when we're beaten by a better team we still win! How did that happen?! The difference between the two teams...110% teamship, resilience and belief. And it's running deep across all areas of the club. We've waited a long time for this and my, we're getting it back in buckets.

Ipswich fan. Good summary. Agree with keeper positioning and the absence of KWP. We were really surprised not to see him. Downes was good, we know about him obviously. Unlucky but think you'll get through the playoffs, your schedule is so packed it'll be very difficult now to go auto. Good luck!

Came up in my feed - wasn't looking to rub it in! Ipswich fan here - but recognise we got a bit lucky today. Your guys are difficult to break down, so we needed that bit of luck! Cool blog - and good luck for rest of the season - hopefully we'll be playing each in EPL next year!

Fair perspective. I thought you bossed us in the first half- I'll be honest, actually thought you were a bit boring, like Man City, with the amount of times you pass across the back line, but I guess it works for you. Makes it all the more confusing when you did attack as you have so much going forward. Armstrong (A) is a cheat code in the Champ.
Definitely happy when Aribo went off, he schooled us a little. Our subs always seem to make a difference and when they stretched the game, the last 30 mins was (as with most of our home games) attacking heaven.
Hash to lose to a last min goal but, naturally, the limbs for us was fantastic. Good luck in the play offs (providing we aren't in them!)
Yeah playing the way we do can be boring at times but it helps break teams down as they normally end up pressing us so we can then create space and get in behind, absolutely I thought aribo was quality, very annoying we conceded like we did but I feel even a point wouldn’t have been enough to help us so in a way I’m glad both teams went for it unfortunately on this occasion it went for Ipswich instead of Southampton 😅

You must be gutted - played really well and dominated for much of the game BUT the Ipswich subs changed the game and as many other clubs have found out over the season this Ipswich side continually finds a way to fight back and win even at the death.
Think you should be ok in play offs if you play like you did last night. Hope you all had a safe trip home.

Still annoyed we lost but we had to win a draw wouldn’t of been good enough, cheers I got home at midnight so wasn’t too bad all the best for the rest of the season 🙌🏼

My knees and ribs are still hurting from the goal celebration - it went totally nuts and I got thrown over a row of chairs and wasn't even in the main end behind the goal! Great scenes - and an amazing way to win - but must have been absolutely gutting. It happened to us against Cardiff a few weeks ago - we conceded two goals in last four minutes and lost.
@MarlboroughBlenheim1 Yeah let’s hope we don’t meet in the play offs you’ve done the double over us now, honestly still don’t know how that goal went in swear he slipped and somehow it just rolled into the bottom corner, not surprised the scenes at the end looked unreal just a shame my team was on the wrong end of it 🤣

How we won that I've no idea!Southampton were probably the best team I've seen down here and I'd be gutted if I was a saints fan, but we just keep going which is our strength. Still touch and go who goes up Automatically but if it's us, I hope you win the play offs

As a town fan you did play realy well. You did wind up Morsey the tactics were soumd for most of the game. When we made subs it changed things and we played to the whistle.

I think KWP was left out of the game because he was said to have been at fault for Middlesborough equaliser, but to me thats just poor management ! why would you cut your nose off to spite your face ? As an Ipswich supporter, who has been watching football for over 50 games, I can only applaud your calm analysis, and your comments are accurate.
Southampton and Ipswich put on a superb game, and Southampton had control of a large chunk of the first half, and played some great stuff.
However, not taking your chances when on top, is part of football, and I am told this has been an issue for Southampton this season, and you also worked very hard to counter our press, which seemed to me, to make you a bit leggy in the second half of the second half.
To me it was a clear red card, and if you watch the Sarmiento goal on tv, what he does is phenomenal, and he is a very technical player, so skilful.
We have used our bench well all season, and usually change three or four of the front five every game, and have the most goals from the bench int he league, and the most goals in the last 15 minutes, with I think, Southampton second.
We lost at Cardiff 2-1, despite leading 1-0 inn the 94th minute, to a 101st minute goal, so I know that pain.
Southampton are a good team, playing good football, so I hope we go up automatically and you can do it in the play offs

Ipswich fan in peace. Nice, balanced comments from you. I understand your pain from losing in the dying seconds, never nice when it happens to your team. Southampton was very good for large parts of the game and we had to use some luck to get that win (and skill from Hladky).

The red card was an automatic red due to denying a clear goal scoring opportunity outside of the box. If it was inside the box, it would have been a penalty and a yellow.
Couldn’t see from where I was looked like one of our defenders would have made a tackle even if Davis got past Bree
You have to say whoever you support that was a fantastic game of football, both teams going for it. Southampton even with 10 men kept going forward. The key period in the match was in the 2nd half. There was a 15 minute period where Southampton were totally dominant with attack after attack, but they didn't get the 3rd goal. Then at 2-2, it was end to end after that and anything was possible
Absolutely, quality game of football with both teams going for it just a shame Southampton came on the wrong end of the result 😅
