Part prequel, part season 2.5, Queen Charlotte tells the story of... well, Queen Charlotte! She's not exactly my favorite character from Bridgerton... but perhaps this will make me appreciate her more when season 3 comes around?

Plot (via Wiki):
The spin-off miniseries revolving around Queen Charlotte consists of two plot lines: one in the present of Bridgerton, beginning in 1817 with the death of the royal heir Princess Charlotte, an event that causes the Queen to pressure her children to marry and produce another royal heir; the other begins in 1761 with Charlotte meeting and marrying King George. The latter explores the King and Queen's marriage and his mental illness.
These are audio commentary tracks ONLY. They are meant to be watched along with the movie so you can raise or lower the volume on the commentary or the movie itself as you wish.

i was recently talking to my 60+ year old uncle, and he mentioned that one of the Netflix series he had recently watched was Bridgerton because it was trending like crazy
I said “i love that show, but honestly Queen Charlotte was the best series they’ve made so far from that world”
and he said “oh my god YES! are ya kiddin me? That scene under the bed alone was phenomenal and just . . . Amazing.”
We didn’t talk all that much more in depth about it, but I’m fairly certain that that conversation was the closest thing to showing legit *deep* emotions that I’ve seen from that man in the quarter of a century that I’ve know him for.
The scene of young Brimsley dancing with Reynolds slowly transitioning into older Brimsley dancing by himself with a instrumental rendition of "I Will Always Love You" playing in the background... This absolutely destroyed me.

Same. I wasn't expecting to cry. Queen Charlotte's love story is #1 for me, above all the Bridgerton Seasons. It's just so sad watching how the King ends up. He didn't want to put anyone through the pain of caring for him, so he distanced himself, then tried to fix his condition because he cared for Charlotte, but was taking advantage of. It's moving how loyal they are to one another in the end.
What’s funny is there’s an entire supernatural based lore about the English Royal family being werewolves. There was even an episode of Doctor Who referencing it

They had a scene written where Reynolds and Brimsley pass by each other but never filmed it as it was cut from the script. He’s confirmed to still be alive, but they’re not together.
They can't be together because they have to each watch the king and queen. Since the king and queen live separately and barely see each other, so do they

Queen Charlotte existed in real life, this part is based on the true story of her and the king who was in fact 'mad'. And they did really love eachother and they did have 15 children of which 2 died. So they did have some inspiration, just not from a book.😊

i legitimately think queen charlotte is the best one out of all the seasons/shows related to bridgerton. How ironic that it wasn't based on any of the books
Shonda Rhimes has over 20 years of writing and producing successful television dramas. She wrote this in collaboration with the Bridgerton author. But it really does have Shonda's imprimatur on it. You see it and feel it. Shonda's production company produced Bridgerton, but she didn't have any artistic involvement. What is more it's tricky to adapt a book to a film -- especially if you didn't write the book. Shonda Rhimes is criticized for a lot of things. What is ironic is that she still pretty much did what she always does, and it worked fantastically well in Queen Charlotte. Everything was there for a reason. Even the awful Lady Danbury sex scenes served an important purpose. This was so well done from beginning to end. That's amazing, truly.

Be careful. Queen Charlotte was a stand alone spinoff not based on any book. Shonda Rhimes wrote and produced this. Seasons 1 and 2 were produced by Chris Van Dusen. Season 3 was produced by Jess Brownell. Season 1 introduces the whole fantastic world of Bridgerton and its main characters, so it's good to start with Season 1. Depending how you feel about it, you may want to try Season 2. But there's huge jump from Season 2 to Season 3. Queen Charlotte comes between Season 2 and Season 3.
Dear lord, i dont even watch these shows, and yet I started tearing up the moment they got under the bed together. Then it was full on crying when she looked over and still saw the young man she fell in love with. Oh god, am i about to start watching Bridgerton now???
Wait! You just watched the highlight reel? You didn't want the full series? Well, if you really want a good cry, watch from beginning to end. Your emotions will go through a roller coaster ride in a good way. And even though you will recognize many scenes from the highlight I am sure a full viewing will be very rewarding for you.
George III had a thing called porphyria, which affected the mind in a way that people thought he was a werewolf or a vampire (and note how he doesn't eat fish which is high in vitamin d, which would be quite helpful in treatment for his porphyria...I'm sure Charlotte forced all her kids to eat their fish tbh...don't blame her)

Trust me as a Bridgerton fan, seeing Queen Charlotte for the first time took me way by surprise. Bridgerton was always a funny, juicy, sometimes sexy drama so when this season made me so emotional, brought me to tears, I was taken aback. Quickly became my favorite season, even if it is just a spin-off. No show has ever made me laugh till I can’t breathe, cry for joy, sob like a baby, even believe in love again like this one ❤️🥹
Cried for Charlotte and George, cried for Brimsley and Reynolds, even for Agatha and Lord Ledger. It’s so sad, none of them get a truly happy ending
