- *don't forget to check out www.dbfishing.... as have some of my custom lures on there now*
Well guys, i've not been able to get out as much lately as I would have liked but managed a couple of short sessions on a local river. the first one was about 3 hours long and using mainly jig flies and the second was about a hour of fishing with normal lures.
It was really hard going as there's been tons of rain and the river was running super fast but I persevered with it and managed some fish in the end!

Some lovely fish and well done buddy.... nice to see someone’s managing to get some fishing done 🥲🎣😀
I like that first river, and that pike you caught there is absolutely stunning! Great video!
Legit my favourite RUclipsr ♥️
I love these baby pikes, they're gonna get big too, nice video mate 👍👍
Jig flies, good out of the box thinking.
Best lure for pike ever th JIG-FLY i make all my own JIG-FLY sell lots of them on the bank of my local venues ,been fishing the JIG-FLY 12 years now got into the JIG-FLY when Fly-fishing nothing like catching pike and carp on a fly-fishing rod absolutely awesome love tying my own lures especially the JIG-FLY,para
you got a website or something where you sell them mate?
@@christianreibig2326 I’ve had a few from a guy called ‘33Flies’.... The quality is the best I’ve seen so far. I’ve already caught dozens of fish, and after a brush, they still look brand new.
He has a website - www.33flies.co.uk 👌🏻
@@DONBGWEST thank you mate 👍👍
Retrieve or any tips to use them pal
With thing so shat at the moment your videos are the highlight of me sundays mate 👍keep them coming
Yes yes and yes good jhob🍺🍺
Here in NZ, we call those lures skutes. They are used to target our snapper in saltwater which is a kind of sea bream.
Getting jiggy with it! 🎣
thanks for taking back the hook
If you tie a stinger on to the bend in the single you’ll not miss any more jig fly bites! Works like a charm 😀
@@pikeandperch - no probs mate. First try with a jig fly I had three takes but no hook ups, next time round had 4 takes all hooked on the stinger.
It was bugging me that so much of the fly had no hook coverage.
Been wanting to try and catch a pike on a jig fly! Nice one! 👍
I see a new video by you Dan and I just click like lol
Nice 👍
Just got myself some heavy lures.. And I'm waiting for new rods to arrive... Unfortunately, in Ireland we're allowed to travel only 5km from home, and just a canal nearby, without much fish, if at all. Have to wait at least until end of February to get to my favourite places
The canals in ireland are pure shite now. Years ago they were full of fish. Sad
@@conalbennett8259 Caught some roach&perch la, year, on the whip. Tried spinning for pike, and no results. Unfortunately the canals were poached for many years 😡😡
Nice one mate
Hammered that spot mate 😂 I’m working in South Wales at minute. Surrounded by water both salt and fresh. Torture not being able to have a go
@@pikeandperch got no gear on me 😂
What weight are the jig flies if you cant tell that would be great👍 keep up the great videos 🎣🎣
Will have to keep an eye out for you, I walk my dog there. Not giving the location away.lol
Do you have to have a special rod and reel for jig flies or can it it be the same rod and reel used for lure fishing?, also do you have to add a weight to the flies as the ones i've seen have no weight.
Come on Dan, get with it. We need to know what gear you are using? Rod, reel , line , net, pliers,as well as lures. It makes it much more interesting for new and inexperienced anglers. Nearly every film on the bank shows a rod twitch and muddy path. Don’t forget if you keep saying what the tackle is your using your more likely to get competition from different manufactures to try THEIR gear for free. I do enjoy the takes. Tight lines
It’s all in the description buddy
@@downtheriver5733 Yes, that may be the case, but my grandsons don’t know the difference between a jig fly, a jerk bait and a swim bait. They also want to know what a fixed spool reel is. You Tube is mostly a visual platform and getting to see what is described is a great help to me my grandkids and very many more inexperienced pike anglers.
I suspect that treble was someone used for deadbait. Why use 3 splitrings on a lure? AND if you use weaker splitrings, dont go 10 lb one, if your line is 50lb, use 35 lb rings. They break befor the line but wont break on a pike. Great film again Dan 👍👍👍
@@pikeandperch homemade, shit made stinger. I use 65lb braid and 40lb split ring. Hook breaks befor the splitring, splitring breaks befor line. Stinger is 175lb florocarbon. Never lost a fish on that.
Definitely a lure treble, you can tell by the spike - I would hazard a guess that someone has made an improvised 'stinger' with monofilament - pike has thrown the main hook and the mono's gone either at the knot or cut by the teeth - beggars belief how some 'Noddys' fish for pike....
@@Boxersboy-um1fd agree 100%
Its strange how people do it. And i bet its one of them that preaches about unhooking mat, but cant make a simple stinger....
Been hard recently. Bloody floods. Hard to find pocket water,
Nice
"two hours later" you finally get to the best spot on this river ;)
Fair play catching on the first venue, looked like chocolate. It was a bit strange leaving the treble in if they managed to cut it so low to the hook wasn’t it, you think they’d have removed it. That last pike has plenty attitude 😂😂😂
When can we expect another video from you
@@pikingwithcole5301 sorry mate I’m stuffed at the moment, I’ve been brought back off furlough and my two days off are in the week so home schooling. To make it worse my wife works in a primary school so by the time she’s back it’s generally pitch black and everything has frozen solid again 🤦🏻♂️ I have not fished for nearly 6 weeks now. Looks like I’m going to have to try a late night dead bait session when things thaw out
That’s just the reality of things at the moment and there’s nothing we can do about it
@@pikingwithcole5301 yup, a proper ball ache.
@@BlackCountryPiker yep Steve I've missed your uploads too , hope you dust ya rods off soon mate
Where is that place you fish? Looks fantastic!
Lost my savage gear da bush this weekend. Water’s horrendous at the moment
Hahahaha I did exactly the same. First cast after landing a blank saver. Da Bush will be missed
Where did u get your jig fly from good video mate
Got any tips u can tell me
Bit late but great vid mate
Np keep up the hard the hard work
What sized split rings would you recommend for replacements on pike lures?
Personally speaking, if snagged with a fish and have a break off, better the ring gives up than lose everything. Better for you and more importantly the fish is better off than having a lure leader and other hooks left in it. That's my theory and btw I fish heavy so something needs to give. The split rings imo probably should be the weakest part?
can you try a hard lure for me its Kendo lure.125 f 21 gr colour number 13.
@@pikeandperch thanks it is working well in Turkey.cheap but working well.
Just bought a jig fly hopefully will produce
@@pikeandperch think it will be a while since all the snow
