    Superb video Paul. As my late father always said to me. "Son, take care of your tools and they will take care of you."
    So, I get your attention to cleaning and looking after your razors. I do the same myself. Keep it up mate!

    Love your videos, Paul. What you can also do, to avoid that soap slipping away, or to dry your alum block, is put a kitchen sponge, those that have a green coarse side, and a yellow foamy side, and put it with the yellow foam side up, and put there your soap and your alum block. It will dry very fast, since the sponge will suck in all the moisture, and they won't slip and fall down to your sink. Hope it helps.

    Happy Wednesday Paul! Outstanding looking flowers from Mrs H. I agree, it is nice to rediscover beloved products. I don't have you access to products, but I have plenty of vintage items. I will go into my vault of blades and choose a Schick Platinum Plus and think how good these are...same with soaps, brushes, and razor handles. I have only a few balms and aftershaves, so those get regularly used. That Treet Platinum did the job. Great shave. I really like your cleaning tip segment. I think it is important to have clean gear. I use cotton swabs to get into all the nooks and crannies. Dawn dish soap works very good as well for cleaning the vintage items. I use 130° F hot water. Yes, medical grade alcohol is great. Sometimes a distilled vinegar soak helps with verdigris removal. All of this needs to be done gently and patiently. Finally, razor blades...since I use vintage blades that can last well into the 20th use, I clean with hot water and rinse with medical grade alcohol to displace any water. It works great on both carbon steel and stainless. I always remove the blade from the razor as you do and put back into its wrappings once air dried. I do make the outer wrapping with a dot to indicate a use. I was trying to work out a system so I use each side of the blade equally, but that escapes me. Paul, your content is superb! Take care Postman!

    Cleaning the brush the same way as you did.
    Cleaning the razor, I open it and leave it in a bowl with hot tap water and some dish detergent with it. After this, I scrub all the pieces with the toothbrush and rinse. Pat dry and put back in place. Crystal clear, no marks or residues.
    Good razor Paul, nice grip and heavy stuff. Great Musgo also, a bit expensive but veeery creamy.

    Hi Paul. I am a fan of the Portuguese MUSGO REAL, which - by the way - means "Royal Moss" in English. My favourite line of Musgo Real is the Original (green). I have the cream, pre-shave oil, aftershave and balm of that line. All terrific in performance and scent! Not very cheap, though.
    The brand of Musgo Real has about the same status in Portugal, like Harris, T&H, ToOBS, Penhaligon in Britain.
    Thanks for this video, and wish you a good rest of the week and a relaxing weekend.

    When I use carbon steel blades, that rust nearly as soon as the shave is done, is rinse with rubbing alcohol after I clean it off. It helps displace water and dries it faster with no noticeable rusting. I even rinse my razors and modern coated blades in alcohol.

    I have exactly the same razor as that one Paul, except that it is not a slant head. I clean my Razor in exactly the same way as you do but I also use Dawn liquid detergent OxiClean and that really helps to give it clean with a toothbrush. I usually stand the blade and the whole razor in a glass of 90% alcohol to clean off any bacteria. Great video once again mate, and both my parents favorite flower was the rose and my dad's pride and joy were The Roses in his garden!🍀 Cheers mate

    Great video Paul. I have a Merkur 39 C chrome plated but it's not a slant and it was the first double edge I bought. I've had it for many years now and it's still going strong and still in great shape. Love the weight on it. Not to heavy I feel and not too light, just right if you ask me. The slant you showed is nice. I dig it. I haven't cleaned my razor in quite some time and watching your video has definitely given me some great knowledge on what to do now. Thanks for your greatness. Have a great day my man.

      Paul - Lucky Tiger leaves a great face feel. I have it up there with Floid Mentolado Vigoroso and a few others but in no way does the scent of Lucky Tiger last an hour! I get *maybe* 10 minutes. As you know, it also contains witch hazel so I never bother with the Thayers when using it.

      I expect it can depend on how much you apply with the Lucky Tiger, as I have smelt it on myself up to an hour later, ok very slight...but it is there....I do wish it lasted much longer....yes remember you telling me about you don't apply witch hazel with this, as it contains it......have a great weekend and thanks.....Paul.

    Good shave and shave den tour...I also use a tooth brush to get rid of the scum on the razor...but I clean and dry the blade and put it back in the razor till the third use then I dispose of it...love oranges...and I must get the Thayers peach...although that scent has no alcohol like my lemon Thayer's....The Flowers looked like candy with all the color's ...well done Mrs H....I have used hydrogen peroxide to sterilize my razor...kills germs..and rinse thoroughly....the razor and the treet blade performed flawlessly...I also had a shave up myself this morning...refreshing start to my day...had a glass of OJ after the shave...lol

    Great shave Paul! As for second hand razors, I do a thorough scrub with a soft Colgate brush and imperial leather soap then I nuke the heads in a solution of Barbicide for 15 minutes. It's toxic avenger stuff but it kills pretty much any bug it touches. I have a couple of bottles i imported from the US on standby for older acquisitions. 15 minutes is all you need. I have read some people leaving gear soak overnight and in the case of gold, it did discolour it so ...just stick to the directions.

    1. In the future, could you show how you tidy up your shaving soaps when the come in a tub? I've heard to drain any water and then let them air dry, also ave seen people wipe the surface with a towel to get any moisture off of them.
    2. I notice some wet shavers use an alum block after the shave but notice you do not. Any argument for or against doing it?
    Thanks yet again.

      Hi Gareth, I just clean them, and make sure they are dry, and leave them until I need them next, most of my vintage razors are kept in a draw, and wrapped in tissue paper, which I got them in....works well for me, no issues. I do however keep an eye on twist to open models or any with a lot of moving parts, and coat them with a very thin layer of 3 in one oil, maybe once a year....applied with a brush, then a quick brush with surgical spirit before use next time......but I don't "not" use them for that long usually....all the best.....Paul.

    Can I use the same towel that I dry my brush with to dry my safety razor? How long will the toothbrush that you clean the razor with last? Can I use the same toothbrush to clean other grooming tools(beard scissors, tweezers, nail clippers etc.)? The reason I ask is because I'm worried about germs.

    • @PaulHFilms
      @PaulHFilms  7 лет назад

      I use the same towel for the brush and razor yes, as it's only me that has touched all three.....I change the brush when the bristles start to wilt down....every two months maybe.....in regards to other grooming tools, you may want brushes dedicated to each one, if your worried about germs etc.

    • @Alex00789

      PaulHFilms Thanks Paul. Do you use the toothbrush daily on the razors? The reason I ask is because 2 months isn't that much of a lifespan.

    Good Day Paul !
    I have a slant razor. However ,I must admit I don't get the concept. How is it cutting any different than holding a standard razor at a different angle?
    On a different note...I wish you would consider ending each episode with a close up shot of your display case . Always trying to peek over your shoulder or pause for a distant shot.
    I see the Aqua Velva today. Coincidentally, I just ordered soap and Williams AQ from PAA. And yes, a few other treets....I caved in! "Needed" some new products, haha!

      Thank you Dennis, you and me both, I find no difference in the shave either, straight DE razor or Slant....obviously ot cuts the beard differently, but feels no different to us shavers......I will do something in my next shave for you Dennis....in regards to the display case......hope you enjoy your new products....as you caved in...lol......all the best....Paul.

    Paul, do you ever experience any problems with ingrown hairs? I notice on your first pass you can shave down on your neck with no problem. Does the hair on your neck grow entirely in one direction, or do you tweak your technique to deal with different growth patterns? When I shave my neck, I have to shave in several different directions over three passes.

    • @PaulHFilms
      @PaulHFilms  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Jimmy, no problems with ingrowing hairs thankfully, my neck area does grow in different directions , so I adjust the technique to suit me yes....I found that gentle light touch always helps any issues too....all the best....Paul.

    Hi Paul,as always enjoyed watching your Wednesday shave, quick question do,why do you only apply witch hazel, lotion and moisturizer on your face and never in/on your neck?double checked, Tesco's was open this week so when is the next ' Hot and Spice' video too air?Love too hear your thoughts on the things that happened over the last week! Like how the Dutch women became European football champion !Cheers,Wimp.s. I clean my setup the same way but use good old green soap. Works great too.

      Thanks for the questions, I do try to put witch hazel everywhere, but may not fully immerse my neck as I do my face etc....but it does get some, and the next Hot + Spicy is on Saturday night, on my other channel *007Vauxhall*....thanks....Paul.

    Hi Paul once I’ve cleaned and dried the razor and blade, I just pop the blade back in the razor and leave it on my stand on the sink, is that ok for the blade? Thanks

    Great ideas and tips.
    Thinking about how to disinfect, why not just simply put the razor in a bowl and then pour boiling water over it, then let it rest for 5 min? No way any germs or bad stuff will survive that long in that temperature.

    • @PaulHFilms
      @PaulHFilms  7 лет назад +3

      Thank you, boiling water would kill most germs yes, but it could also damage the razor, a vast heat too quickly....especially a vintage, so I personally don't do that.....all the best Thomas......Paul.

      I use Barbicide, not so much for its disinfectant qualities; but for its ability to get my razor nice and shiny. I only leave it in the Barbicide for a few minutes.
      I put a small tear in the wrapper each time I use a blade. It saves messing about with anything else.
