This is so good, glad they started putting this out as a single malt. Can see why someone would want to use it to make blends with but I want it straight.
Holy Crap...I didn't realize you had released more videos:) I thought I had the notifications bell clicked but I guess not. Awesome review as usual. I still need to try an Aultmore...If I want to try one though..... I am going to have to order it on Master of Malt:(
The Aultmore is really impressive and not terribly expensive. The other malt that is impressive is the Glenlivet Founders Reserve. Worth checking out. Best!
I don't believe I've ever seen this, but if I do, I must try it! It sounds fascinating! We've been getting some unusual new items in PA stores recently, so I hope this one shows up. I'll also keep my eyes peeled at the more adventurous bars, but something about single malt Scotch, man...sometimes it tastes way different to me at bars than it does at home.
A single malt in a bar can taste very different than in the comfort of your home for a number of reasons. One of the biggest is that you don't know how long that bottle in the bar has been open. For example, the first time I tried Talisker 10 in a bar I thought it was dreadful, but had a brainwave and asked the waitress to show me the bottle. It had about four shots left in the bottle. I asked her how long it had been open and she said a couple of years. The Talisker tasted awful because it had been from a bottle that had been open and was mostly oxidized. Another factor in whisky not tasting ideal in a bar is "what did you eat or drink before the whisky?" If you had a plate of nachos with jalapenos before the whisky your palate is gonna be way off from enjoying the whisky. There are other factors too like your lady friend's lipstick interfering with the taste too from to much necking! Ha! Best, Jason
I just found this today here in Cambodia...$33.45us no added tax... I checked Ralfy and he gave it an 89.. Now, I find you reviewed it as well. It has just become the least expensive Scotch whisky on my shelf and with its Integrity specs light fruity taste with that 46%abv I will have to grab another. A lucky find next to my go to Craigellachie 13.. Cheers ... Better late to the review than never....
To follow up on my previous comment: I'm at a bar in Philly where I saw this. I still haven't seen it anywhere else in this area, and when I ordered a glass, the bartender didn't know what it was! I showed it to her on the menu, and she said it was new. I ordered a second glass, but alas! Just two sips left in the bottle! I hope this becomes more widely available here because it's great! Bright sugared citrus, rich honey, and round, subtle wood smoke. A delightful Speysider.
Great notes there Jason. I've had some of this and think it is reasonably priced. Forgot to say I like it too. The 18 year is a beauty but it's considerably more expensive.
Yes, the 18 year old release is considerably more. I try to keep my reviews to whiskies under $100 as I am paying for them out of my own pocket. Ha! The downside to not being on the take by the spirits industry. Thanks for commenting!
I didn't get much out of this whisky at first... It took a while to open up. Then when it was opened up it was still.missing something. Maybe I just got a bad bottle or something else was throwing me off.
I have had other whiskies aged in ex-bourbon exclusively without peat or smoke or sherry that gave me much more than the Aultmore... It did get a bit better after it was open for a while, but at first there was next to nothing there... I had the same complaint about a Tomintoul 14 and an Arran malt or two.
Hi Jason, really nice review! I have had and reviewed a bottle from all of the Bacardi Scotch distilleries in Scotland, save for this one. It is on the list. I was worried when it disappeared from the BC Liquor board website and several government stores seemed to cease holding it. However, at a larger store in Vancouver I did find it (though I did not walk out with it - I grabbed something else that seems to be selling like hot cakes at the moment - its time will come).
Yeah, it is always nice to discover a great malt at a reasonable price. I am really liking this Aultmore. The Aultmore 18 is not available where I am, but I will certainly grab it if I see it. Hope all is well with you!
Nice review, Jason. I will keep an eye out for this whisky. I'm always looking for something new to try. BTW, have you tried any of the Compass Box expressions? I bought the Spice Tree and Asyla expressions, and am really enjoying them.
Jason Debly - agree with you on the Spice Tree. I love it's complexity and great oily mouthfeel . I recently picked up the Asyla as it was less than $40 at my liquor store. The Asyla has a wonderful nose of tropical fruits. The palate isn't quite as nice as the nose, but still good, and great value.
Hello, Jason! Can you pls help me? I dont know what whisky should i choose between Aultmore 12 foggie moss and Aberfeldy 12 yo. Can u pls give me advice? (sorry for my english)
46% is no problem for me. I do prefer a nice ex bourbon matured whisky to a sherry matured whisky. I can get hold of this no problem. Would you say it's better than the Dalwhinnie 15?
Yeah, I like this better than Dalwhinnie and that is saying a lot. All I meant about the 46% is that it creeps up on ya a lot quicker than the typical 40% or 43% ABV.
This one is a very good one. But is too expensive for what it is. For this ranges I prefer Bunnahabhain or Balvenie. This one is 20€ of nothing. I'm not saying is bad, I'm saying that is not good at that price.
I just do this for fun and don’t buy into the notion that there is a right or wrong way to hold a glencairn glass. Whisky enjoyment I leave up to the individual whether they want ice, water, drink from a wine glass or tumbler. The field of whisky appreciation is far too snobby as it is.
Jason Debly be that as it may when you hold the glass up higher sometimes the smell of your fingers interferes with the liquid in the glass personal experience and not just a snob..although just came off as one somewhat
Both you and Ralfy have given the thumbs up. I'm pulling the trigger and getting a bottle tonight! Great review!
Thanks! You will like this one. Just let it air out a bit in your glass before taking a sip. Enjoy!
Cheers Jason! You nailed it. Video is amazing now. seems perfect on my end. Lighting is great , focus is on point. Really enjoyed. - Ofer

Yes, I think in the past my lighting was insufficient. It takes a lot of light to shoot.
Looking forward to yours too!
Great review Jason, Like myself I really enjoyed it and its great that its not been artificially coloured or chill filtered. Cheers Jason!
Thanks and I look forward to your next review!

Jason Debly,
Double "Ns" ! ! I will pick up a bottle this week at $45 . Appreciated, Jason.
Take care.
Can't beat that price. Enjoy!

Glad you liked it. I suspect it will be widely distribited shortly.
Been looking at this for some time. I really like the packaging and bottle design.
It's a great whisky but with that elevated ABV, you wanna be careful.
Great notes there Jason. I've had some of this and think it is reasonably priced. Forgot to say I like it too. The 18 year is a beauty but it's considerably more expensive.

Maybe. Hard to say. It is definitely missing sherry, peat and smoke, so that may be why you feel it is missing something.
I have had other whiskies aged in ex-bourbon exclusively without peat or smoke or sherry that gave me much more than the Aultmore... thx for review Sir +++ affordable to date
Yes, the price point is excellent. Definitely a great value for money purchase.

You should give it a go. Would like to see your review of it!
Nice review. I agree. Good stuff. The 18 is great too.

I am a really big fan of the Spice Tree and have been intending to review it. I really like it. Compass Box is a good brand!
Jason Debly - agree with you on the Spice Tree. I love it's complexity and great oily mouthfeel . I recently picked up the Asyla as it was less than $40 at my liquor store. I have not as impressed as you were - I might have to go back a try it again - thanks!
Give it another try!
Hello, Jason! Can you pls help me? I dont know what whisky should i choose between Aultmore 12 foggie moss and Aberfeldy 12 yo. Can u pls give me advice? (sorry for my english)
The Aultmore 12 Foggie Moss is superior. Buy that one. Cheers!
Thank you!
No problem! Enjoy!
Something to consider. Aultmore 12 is 100% more expensive than Aberfeldy 12
1897. It's stamped on the bottle.
46% is no problem for me. I do prefer a nice ex bourbon matured whisky to a sherry matured whisky. I can get hold of this no problem. Would you say it's better than the Dalwhinnie 15?

I'm not saying is bad, I'm saying that is not good at that price.
Where I live it’s a lot cheaper for some reason making it a good deal.
Water diminishes complexity on this one Haha?! Haha
Please to look more professional, hold the glencairn by the stem, it's scotch not brandy. Love the whisky though
