I really appreciate this style of video. I played this a bit back in 0.15 and very briefly in 0.16 but didn't get amazingly far since I wanted to wait for the game to finish before I sunk my teeth in. I know the basics, but every time you watch people making tutorial videos or what have you, they always starting pulling out those jumpstart blueprints, often directing people to download themselves. As a "veteran" who took *\many\* hours to figure out all this stuff I feel like what is covered in this one episode would have waranted their own shorter and more focused episode before the let's play proper, like an episode for start settings like useful key bidings, peaceful, research queue, ... another episode for interfaces like inventory, crafting, science, map layers, ... rather than a big 40 minutes dump of information that makes it difficult to come back to if you forget some of it. Just my two cents on it, thanks for the video nonetheless
You are definitely right. I plan to do little mini tutorials covering exactly those type of things in addition to this. For future episodes I will try to thin out the info a bit and leave it to the standalone tutorials.
Going to need a massive fort just cover it in 360 of guns and have an auto loader to go around the entire base my favourite configuration for the turrets is have an iron Chest in between 2 turrets and 3 inserters. Just make sure you have a hell of a lot of manufacturing machines to make Yes ammunition for your turrets

I found it extremely helpful to recreate what you're doing in parallel. I figured out how to install the map you're using, and maybe others would benefit from an explanation of how to do this.
I'm so glad it was helpful to you to be able to kind of mirror or recreate what I'm doing in parallel. I can definitely make a quick and easy tutorial on how to load the same version of someone else's map from the map string or seed. Good idea! :)
Thanks! Welcome to the game! It certainly can be a challenge figuring out layouts and recipes initially, but hopefully these tutorials can help, and over time it will be easier. :)
I gotta check currently, and I think I missed it first time I watched this, you mentioned steam power being 20 and 40. I thought I had in my head from long ago that one "offshore pump" can only provide water enough for 10 boilers? So I'd always done 10 and 20. Has that changed recently?
Xterminator, great to see some Factorio, Love the way you explain. Would like some help to know what the mod you have to get toolbar with blueprints. Keep it up and.
You mean the shortcuts to the right of the toolbar? That's vanilla. You can click the little 3 dots button next to the pane and it brings up a list of the options, and you just check the box on the most useful ones (I think you can only have a certain number at a time (which may depend on screen size), so to use the rest you need to either use keybinds or open the full list and toggle them there).
There's a catch tho. U either need to complete the according tech for the shortcut (so researching blueprints will give u the blueprint shortcut, or exoskeleton will give u the on/off shortcut for it, etc.) or you can look up a console command to unlock all of it instantly for all your playthroughs. Goal of the devs was to not overwhelm new players with all those shortcuts but to gradually unlock them. Once u unlock them, they are forever available even if u start a new base.
I suggest you keep the episodes a bit shorter, definitely for the first couple of episodes. Else the episodes are too daunting to watch and are not able to make the game less daunting. Still nice addition to the channel!
I agree! The first episode is usually quite long sense it included an introduction and a lot of basic info. The ones following will be under 30 minutes.
Something I like to do is put wood, coal, stone, iron and copper on my hotbar so I know how many raw materials I have one hand. I like to keep at least a thousand of iron and copper on me at all times.
I have a question : Is it possible to disable the mods for a specific game ? I mean to unload some for a specific game and have others loader for another one ?
I believe so. I think you can do that with the options I mentioned near the end of the general changes section in my overview video. You can edit the config.ini file in your Factorio folder to make that happen I think. Unfortunately I don't actually know what changes to make in it specifically as I've never messed that before.
@@Xterminator Thanks a lot for such quick answer. Behind my question, I wanted to know if it was possible thru the GUI instead of managing the .ini files. But thanks I am fine with tat !
Find another Ore patch. Ore patches spawn throughout the whole map, so once the ones you have in your starting area run out, you can search for more and mine them and transport the Ore back via belt or train.
Thanks for the vid. I've got a question: How do I get rid of something in my inventory? I accidentally right clicked on making some armor so I have 4 extra in my bag and I can't get rid of them. They're taking up room....help...:). Thanks.
Hi I tried to copy your seed map and just couln't get it to transfer as it came out printed to beige on black which factorio wouldn't accept can you actually print the seed number please asI am visually impaired so always have to look at the seed Numbers in the opening screens with a strong magnifier
Please explain that there is a Tutorial that covers *alot* of what you are covering here. Also, (for me) could you try to change icons on your hot-bar with the middle mouse button. I have tried and it only adds items to my hot-bar but does not remove or replace them. (I don't understand how to file a bug report, so don't ask.) Thank you for all your content that you do, looking forward to this play through.
so far as a new player guide beats the snot out of Nilaus's version which is actually a old returning player guide for speed run builds ... instead of a new player guide . about even with Katherine Of Skye's new player guide for 1.0
Wow thanks, that means a lot to hear. I honestly didn't even think I was staying even with Nilaus on it. Don't get me wrong though, I think he makes great content so I have no doubt his series is quite good, but if mine does a better job at being a guide for new players, that's great.
one of the good things about your map start is the fact you have a close by enemy ... and it perfectly demonstrated the need to monitor your pollution production ... sure it kept you to a few miners and furnaces right off .and forced power production sooner ... BUT it also showed the way to defend and eventually how to remove the problem ... few if any other starter guides cover that this early ... and this is exactly where it needs to be considered ... very very very early in the game
I have almost 1k hrs on this game...legit did not know the shift trick to switch hotbars....I've been spending 900+ hrs manually switching between hotbars...all that time wasted...im ashamed of myself lol
I know probably a dumb question but will this series be a virgin game play ie no mods. I ask because I've tried to follow others game play and was very disappointed because they would have a crap load of mods installed. I really want to learn the game without mods first. thank you for your time.
Not dumb at all! And to answer your question, yes it will be completely vanilla aside from one small MOD that just increases the light radius around my player a bit, purely used to help make viewing on RUclips better. Hope you find it enjoyable and can learn some stuff! Feel free to ask any questions as the series goes on as well. :)
@@Xterminator Thank you for your quick response and I will definitely agree to that mod as my eyesight in dark video is limited. I've had the game for a long while but just could not get very far into it. I'll keep watching.
0:33 - *sets playback speed to 4x*... eh, it's fine. :) [wow, I can actually mostly understand you even at that pace... maybe 3.5x for some. That's actually pretty cool!] [edit: alright, I ended up slowing down to 3x for most of it. Still... cool that that worked. Thank you for speaking clearly!]
This game desparately needs information tool tips because holy crap... I've watched tutorials on train switches and I still can't get automated trains to work... Actually I feel like that's poor game design. I've played railroad games with track signal lights and they are much more intuitive and setting up rail blocks just... works.
Well luckily the circuit network is not at all required to beat the game or enjoy it. Cause I don't understand it well either, haha. I would agree about signals though, they are not intuitive and quite confusing. It took me forever to figure them out. Hopefully I can show them in a way that is easier to understand later in this series.

@@ricouxstephane1628 Unfortunately I don't think it can be done in GUI. But I might be wrong. Hopefully the config.ini can work for you. :)
What do you do when you run out of raw materials?
Find another Ore patch. Ore patches spawn throughout the whole map, so once the ones you have in your starting area run out, you can search for more and mine them and transport the Ore back via belt or train.
What is the seed for this world so I can follow along a bit more closely?
There is a link in the description for it. :) It's the map exchange string and will give you the exact map I'm using.
@@Xterminator Thanks!
Thanks for the vid. I've got a question: How do I get rid of something in my inventory? I accidentally right clicked on making some armor so I have 4 extra in my bag and I can't get rid of them. They're taking up room....help...:). Thanks.
very helpful thanks....
'member the nest goo back in the day?
I usually wanted to finish the game before i start a new one, but the release of 1.0 was a exception haha. It will be a railworld again anyways so
Hi I tried to copy your seed map and just couln't get it to transfer as it came out printed to beige on black which factorio wouldn't accept can you actually print the seed number please
asI am visually impaired so always have to look at the seed Numbers in the opening screens with a strong magnifier
how did you got the FPS thing to show up
Did the devs reach out to the youtubers? So many of the channels have done this 1.0 new user guide series
I don't believe so. We just decided to do it sense 1.0 is bringing in a lot of new players. :)
Great video
Thank you!
i got a pump hooked up to a boiler and it doesn't work inexplicably
Please explain that there is a Tutorial that covers *alot* of what you are covering here.
Also, (for me) could you try to change icons on your hot-bar with the middle mouse button. I have tried and it only adds items to my hot-bar but does not remove or replace them.
(I don't understand how to file a bug report, so don't ask.) Thank you for all your content that you do, looking forward to this play through.
Your channel should have more subs
Why do all players place the miner & furnace on the edge of a field and not in the middle of it?
What a great seed. Would you mind sharing it?
Stupidly fucking helpful. Thank you kind sir.
Perhaps you could add the seed # of your game to the video description section? That would certainly make it easier for new players to follow along.
Doing that today in fact. :)
Video starts at 3:43
Is this with default settings?
You could have just looted the big wreck, instead of harvesting it, its a unique landmark :)
What is your game seed?
so far as a new player guide beats the snot out of Nilaus's version which is actually a old returning player guide for speed run builds ... instead of a new player guide
.
about even with Katherine Of Skye's new player guide for 1.0
Wow thanks, that means a lot to hear.
Situation normal, everything is on fire.
You sound kinda tired, it's excellent content, just don't push yourself too hard!
the video starts at 2:33
I can’t wait to get a computer so I can play this

This is mindustry with rtx on xD
When you play for 2 weeks straight and beat the game you will see what he is talking about.
"when you beat the game" I think you mean "when you reach the midgame", no?
I always get overwhelmed by oversized bugs :/
1.0! 1.0! 1.0! ...
Yes yes yes!
YES!!!
0:33 - *sets playback speed to 4x*... eh, it's fine. :)
[wow, I can actually mostly understand you even at that pace... maybe 3.5x for some. That's actually pretty cool!]
[edit: alright, I ended up slowing down to 3x for most of it. Still... cool that that worked. Thank you for speaking clearly!]
How do you set it to 3x? Even using custom I can only set it up to 2x
@@Toksyuryel Using a browser extension... namely this one: chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/video-speed-controller/nffaoalbilbmmfgbnbgppjihopabppdk
Your definition of landed is questionable if it includes crashing.
This game desparately needs information tool tips because holy crap... I've watched tutorials on train switches and I still can't get automated trains to work... Actually I feel like that's poor game design. I've played railroad games with track signal lights and they are much more intuitive and setting up rail blocks just... works.
And forget the circuit network ffs
Well luckily the circuit network is not at all required to beat the game or enjoy it. Cause I don't understand it well either, haha.
I would agree about signals though, they are not intuitive and quite confusing. It took me forever to figure them out. Hopefully I can show them in a way that is easier to understand later in this series.
