- Doesn't the new paint scheme look great? Or do you like the old one better?
It's one of over 30 B&M (Bolliger & Mabillard) inverted coasters currently operating at parks the world over and although it opened over 20 years ago (1996), it remains one of the best inverts the company has ever made. It's also one of only two B&M inverts that feature a batwing element, along with Afterburn at Carowinds.

Anyone afraid of coasters absolutely needs to ride this coaster !! The first drop isn't too intense and your ride is smooth and you don't feel too many of those stomach forces .
I have to agree. I'm afraid of rollercoasters. Especially, if I come out of the seat/airtime. It freaks me out. With this rollercoaster, you are stuck to the seat the whole time. I also hate drops that make my stomach come up to my throat. This one curves to the left, not a straight drop so it makes a huge difference. You don't get that falling down feeling. If you don't like to be upside down, then that's a problem. The loops are a bit intense, but again, you don't feel like you will fall out. This is the first BIG rollercoaster I found the guts to ride. But as a warmup, I would recommend Scorpion first.
@@yvesouza514 what are other good rides for chickens at busch gardens tampa?
@@rodra72 id say cheetah hunt is the best first ride. Its absolutely the least intense of all of them so thats a nice one to try if ur afraid.
Montu and Kumba are both very very similar and both not as scary or intimidating as they appear.
Sheikra and Iron gwazi are the 2 you should save until last if you are scared of coasters.
@@mimzykitty1995 id say tigris is definitely a more .mid level ride. Its definitely more intense than it appears initially
@@rodra72 Air Grover is good for 🐔chickens
Probably the best invert I ever rode. It has everything, height, inversions, speed, terrain.
The way it tucks the elements so tightly into the terrain is mental
@@chazgames3690 hater 😂
This was the coaster that made me fall in love with rollercoasters. My first steel coaster and I still remember riding it like it was yesterday.
It's the first coaster I rode. I will forever love rollercoasters because of this one
I can 100% relate to your comment
Same here. This was 20 something years ago. My how the time has gone by. I have dear memories of this rollercoaster and several pictures of me riding it.
I love how this ride goes into the terrain! You'd think that, after the mid course brake run, the train would crawl through the rest of the layout, but it surprises you!
That last whip into the station after that is so dreadful. Like Kumba, it makes sure you are nauseous if not already lol.
Mid-course I think bites more than it used to, but it’s really not bad. I think the little turnaround after the second loop (over the train tracks) is a little too slow, but that’s pretty much the only spot. I do love how it regains its speed and attacks the last corkscrew, though!
@@ranchdressing1037 thanks... im glad someone said that... if you don't know it's coming and to lean forward it will hurt.
@@ranchdressing1037 kumba is a great ride but damn has it gotten rough over the years....
Its a nice long ride too.
rode this for the first time when i was 11 (it was one of my first coasters, i loved it so much that i marathoned it) and finally got to ride it again 9 years later! still one of my favorite coasters of all time. i went on with my friend who was scared but insisted on riding it and as we were on the lift hill they took a look at the paint job and said “i don’t wanna go to ikea”
lol thats hilarious
I just got on this coaster today and it was definitely one of the best coasters I've been on, anyone scared of rollercoasters needs to get on Montu.
It's so smooth
Maybe, just MAYBE the best giant inverted coaster out there
Not maybe... Especially in left rear seat.
@Henry What about nemesis? That ride has nothing on Montu lol
@@FrankDaBank25 as someone whose local park is alton towers, i can confirm this
Nemesis and Banshee
Come up to Busch Gardens Williamsburg. The best invert is there with Alpengeist. I will die by this fact.
Not a fan of the new paint. Muted colors really suited this one. But, doesn’t really matter because the ride is world class.
It’s the original paint colors how can you not be a fan of it?
@@daytonsouthall1137 Not quite. It was a light tan color for the supports, before. Not yellow.
Just give it a couple years in the Florida sun
@@austinslater530 yo, i think u don’t understand what he said, when it was first built it was yellow but i agree tan complements it much better
@@thehawknelsonfreak yes, repainting it to the tanning color will just make it look worse after a few years imo, this will solve that issue
PS, we can tell our children that montu was once golden 😂
This is my #1 rn, super intense ride, long, smooth, and plenty of that B&M invert whip.
Might be mine tbh. Went on it yesterday and felt like my need for a ruthless ride was fulfilled 😂 especially with that tight batwing and final inversion into the ruins
With That New Paint, MONTU Looks Just As Good As It Did When It Originally Opened In May Of 1996. Can You Imagine That?!
@Charlie Pixelz Becuase That's The Name Of The Attraction.
@@elijahwashington6640 I think he means at the beginning of every word.
(Without The Capitals) with that new paint, montu looks as good as it did when it originally opened in may if 1996. can you imagine that?!
@@elijahwashington6640 It should’ve stayed in 1996
This was my first big steel coaster. Every family trip as a young child, I'd see rides like this and kumba, along with the hulk coaster and dueling dragons over at islands of adventure and I wanted ON. Literally waited around for like two years to be tall enough. This thing did not disappoint. Safe to say I'm a life-long B&M fanboy.
Did this coaster in 2001 and it's still one of my favourites ever...
I’d imagine the supports will look better once the Florida heat gets to them in a few years. But this is definitely another repaint up there with Tatsu: right idea, just using too bright of a color
Tastu was the wrong idea entirely lmao
It’s interesting to me because I’ve always thought of Montu as (a form of) blue and yellow, so this repaint doesn’t fundamentally change the character of the coaster for me. I think it makes so much sense to futureproof the paint job by making it overly vibrant and letting it fade to the familiar/intended scheme, rather than starting where you want and having it go pastel in a few years.
Tatsu’s repaint just fundamentally changes the character of the coaster to me. The Japanese name could inspire so many interesting color schemes, but ~Nickelodeon orange and slime green~ aren’t on that list.
Montu but the supports are sponsored by CAT
For those of you who don't know this isn't a new color scheme. This was Montus original color scheme when it opened. The colors changed either because they were purposely changed for less fade, faded on their own or a combination of the two. I personally prefer this color scheme.
At least they maintain and keep their rides looking clean and presentable. A lot of parks do not. They could paint it any color and that ride will still forever kick ass. If they ever changed Kumba colors I’d be very upset though lol
Montu is the Cadillac ride of roller coasters. It’s as smooth a ride that you’ll ever get.
Best inverted coaster in the world. The way it goes into the terrain is so cool
This is a great roller coaster. Was expecting an average experience before riding but was really blown away by how much it had to offer.
This coaster was the one that took my fears of roller coasters away.
SAME
The most impressive thing to me about this ride is how evenly spaced out all the exciting turns and immersions are. Usually the last 20-25% of rides are upright and boring track. This ride evenly spaces out the thrills
Went on the Montu 2 times last week. Brings back the memories. Definitely a good ride.
From my first ride in 96 to now, still the best inverted IMO
you have an opinion but wait until you ride ozIris at Parc astérix
I went in 1996 and i remember that had some crocs in the begin...am i right?
The camera does not do justice to the amount of ass this ride kicks.
The g forces are probably insane, right? I went to the gardaland in italy, they have a similar ride there called blue tornado. Way older and pretty rough. My neck hurt for a week. Fuck, that was brutal but fun.
@@bengoet89 It's actually a pretty smooth ride. Towards the end when it's cutting thru the ground to make track the maneuvers get a bit tighter, which equals more nausea lol.
I know what ya mean though. I rode Iron Gwazi 8 days ago, and my neck is still tore up.
@@bengoet89 Montu hits a little over 4 G's. Really fun ride!
@@bengoet89 Ben, the one at Gardaland is from another manufacturer who is known in the industry for rough rides. (although they are stepping up theyr game the last years) Those are not compareable (Vekoma vs Bolliger and Mabillard). It is like comparing a Dacia to a Benz.
This is one of my favorites at Busch Gardens Tampa. It’s so intense yet amazing all in one. Great ride. I miss it
Love this one. So fun and quite intense. Love all the loops.
Went on this ride today for the first time. I was freaking out because the restraints weren’t going to my waist. But the force of going really fast kept my ass in the seat.
1:35-1:44 that batwing element is class!
Facts
THIS RIDE IS HELLA GOOD JUST DID IT 3 TIMES TODAY
Love the new paint! Looks a lot brighter and newer!
Yeah, i was just about to ask "Did montu get a paint job?"
This is definitely one of the best B&M Inverts, with great pace, a long ride, and great whip.
This perfectly complements Iron Gwazi with its focus on positives contrasting Gwazi's airtime.
I was a kid when this first opened. The line to get on it was so short (I guess people were scared of it) that the operator let my mother and I stay on it 3 times in a row. Best coaster memory of my life.
Similar experience when I was a youngin! Field trip in middle school and I just stayed on it after running through the line twice. I asked the worker if I could just stay on and they said sure lol I was the only person in the front row all 4-5 times I rode it
The old paint❤️ still the closest thing to Batman in Six flags St Louis this coaster is an absolute gem
One of my favorites, such a badass suspended coaster!
Looks beautiful with the new repaint!
Love the terrain on this one.
The first time I went on this roller coaster, I was so scared because I had never been on a ride with so many loops, but once I got off I wanted to ride it three more times.
Montu is still my favorite at Busch Gardens and still in my top 5 easy!
When I lived in Tampa we had yearly pass. This was my favorite coaster. I think being below the tracks for me is better to handle the drops. Even if this one went straight down instead of curving to the left, I don't think it would have bothered me, because you don't get that feeling that the cars or you are going to fly over the tracks. Good for people who like a thrill but don't want to feel like you are heading for your death.
holy shit this was so different and so good! I felt it speed up on the way down on the loops and never seen that before. Great force the entire time! WILDDDDD
Not a fan of the new colors, but still a GORGEOUS coaster. The original tan and blue were just superb to see from outside and inside the park. But I still miss Questor too, so I'm a bit bias.
I called into work when I lived out there and Montu was new. I rode it 12 times without getting off as the park was so empty that morning lol. I couldn't do a number 13 lol. My coworkers messed with me and said they seen me on it while driving by on the clock, but they just knew I was there to see the new ride lol. About 20 years later, if I ride one coaster, I'm sickly and dizzy for the rest of the day. Not barfing is a miracle lol.
I rode Iron Gwazi last weekend and I tried to love it like I wanted to, but she knocked the Hardees right out of me! Kinda dizzy typing this from the flashback lol.
I love this ride, easily one of my favorites.
Great POV!
Gorgeous ride, wish it had kept the croc pit right after the station though. I love the massive scale B&M inverts, this and Alpie seem so cool, dangling under the track at that height is ridiculous. Shame there was never a B&M inverted giga.
One of my all time favs. Rode ot about 50xs. Been 9 years since I've been to busch gardens though.
I love these old school B&M's. They hit different.
Great 5K POV
That heart line roll 👌
One of my favorite inverted coasters
Actually better than Top Gun at Carowinds same layout but an extra loop and one more Corkscrew! Love it!
The first time I ever went to Busch gardens I went straight to this one today and went on three times
Love this ride! Made me dizzy though and gave me a headache but it really faced my fears and it made me get on other rides.
Alot of people say Nemesis is the best invert of all time but this stayed with me soo much more
Nemesis has one of the best most unique layouts and setting of any coaster out there BUT…….Montu hauls serious ass and is in its own league.
never went to either but I think ozIris is better
again I never rode the 3 of them but I'm looking forward to ride
@@boltgaming248 ride all 3
Looks awesome!!!
I love this ride it’s my favorite ride really secured and safe and really fun and has people with u on the ride I went with my cousin we both enjoyed it and others:).
love this ride. Busch Gardens was better than Disney world I reckon
I remember the first time I went on this ride, my harness came up on the assent, so glad my big bro was there to pull it back down, scary stuff but still went on it another 5 times
Nice 360's and inversions
The bit at 1.38 maybe my favourite moment on any coaster
I rode this. Problem with hanging coasters is unless you are in front your visibility is so limited.
I agree with you on that.
It’s a double edged sword. People who are hesitant to ride something like this most likely won’t want to see their surroundings so it adds a bit of comfort to those riders.
True..
But the back row gives a nice whip effect .
Truly an awesome ride in any row.
I did it 9 times in a row on a weekday. Five of those times they didn't make me get off because there was no line to get on...
Definitely took a short walk to get my equilibrium back after that session.
Epic!
If you like looking through the rows from back row it is a very nice experience, too. Seeing the moving/rotating train can be very nice. Furthermore the intensity in the backrow is much higher. So both positions are good.
I went to busch gardens after a 2 hour drive today and when i tried montu, oh jeez i was scared and holding on for dear life
thats an awesome ride and i aint even been on it. woooo
Great ride
Awesome ride omg
Very underrated coaster imo.. in the top 5 for that style of seating
Now that is a ride
This was one of my first BIG rollercoasters bc I usally go on my usual cobras curse scorpion, sand serpent but I went with my friends and I didn’t wanna be left out so I went on it with them. And it was pretty fun. The drop was smoother then expected but the turns made me sick. Lol
My first invert, well, second, I rode Manta. I love it!
The first half of this ride up till right after the batwing looks like Afterburn from Carowinds just to the left on the drop vs the right. After the batwing this looks much longer though. Need to come try this one Afterburn is one of my favorites
This ride is amazing
I like the new paint job on it now I was there back in December 2021 and it was that dark blue but instead of yellow it was this off white color looks way better now
I Looks Like Goliath At six Flags Fiestas Texas With The Supports XD
But Nice POV! 😁👍
Is it supposed to be making that "clank, clank" sound as it's flying down the track?
There is a difference between gold and yellow. Hopefully the sun will do it some good in time.
WOW! love the 5k and the new paint - It looks brand new. Not sure the color scheme is my favorite (But heart for Ukraine ) - it is my favorite invert!
My first real coaster and my favorite since
We have Banshee at my home park but I recently rode Montu and was really impressed. I like it better than Banshee, inversions just hit better
would you guys say that montu or tigris is scarier? i’m trying to figure out which to go on first
Never ridden this but I have rode banshee many a times… this looks so smooth and just as fast from the pov. Could be wrong idk
This is a very underrated cosster
Yes. the paint scheme looks great! Just like Kraken in Seaworld.
This rides fun
I went on this roller coaster for my first time today it’s it’s awesome I highly recommend
platinum member here😎, ( i know i know give me a cookie right? lol) this was today? I was there a mo ago and a lot of coaster were closed going again thurs wondering if they were all open for u guys?
it’s just so bright. looking like goliath at six flags. might look better once it gets some wear on it in the next few years. but would’ve liked to ride it with the classic colors, they just looked better. same goes for alpengeist.
I rode this ride with my dad,mom and me during December 2021
Wait it got a repaint??
How many trains does this ride run?
This was my first! 🎉🎉🎉
Montu said "tough crowd 😭"
I really miss the tan color . Brought someone new to BG and they said “ ohh it looks like Batman” and I’m like “ohh BG messed up” but the bright side is it’s running better than ever
rode this today
it was less scary than i thought it to be. still got a headache from those vertical G’s
If you ever played No Limits you remember this coaster 😆🤣
i liked the repaint
Which roller coaster is scarier to you: Montu or Alpengeist?
Montu is def scarier and better
The new color scheme has yellow supports!
I’ve been on this and I like it
This video makes me feel like i'm back in 1996, they did a great job with the repaint.
Now it looks like Goliath at sfft
I remember the first time I rode this that little baby gator in that built section of water right out left side of gate
The Mouse has nothing like this coaster. Busch/Tampa totally rocks.
I was thinking about my life decisions when I was on the chain lift💀😅
Looks like a Blown Up Goliath from Fiesta Texas. Looks good but preferred the old paint job.
thats imediately what i thought when i saw it
