  • IGN released an article about Resident Evil 5 that is one of the worst thought out think pieces ever, and that's saying something. The writer omits facts about the game, facts about statements about the game, and just makes a really bad argument that shouldn't have been published. This article is the very definition of the boy who cried wolf.

The article author must not know, or wouldn't admit. That when you play co-op, player two plays as Sheva.

You are 100% correct, Sheva is black. and IGN doesn't even acknowledge her existent.

This is why I can’t take gaming journalist and specifically IGN seriously anymore. His opinion should’ve been invalidated due to him not playing the game, making assumptions about Resident Evil 5 story and exposing himself for clearly trying to reach with calling a game in the series racist for its depiction towards Africans. What takes the cake is how he even ignored Sheva and Josh in the game but only sees Chris Redfield 💀.
As an African American, I’m have been ashamed for seeing and hearing how clearly people don’t know their geography. It shows for this journalist talking about Africa as it is a country but not as a continent! This game that depicts an African country isn’t racist but only to the those who have the “white savior complex”. Clearly that man wants to show how fake deep he can be trying to be an internet Karen about a game. It’s ok to not like games but don’t reach with modern politics logistics for your reasoning. And this is the type of politics gamers don’t want in their games made by the journalist.
I agree racism has lost its meaning over time and that’s a great comparison to use the boy who cried wolf. I’m already on that path of not taking certain gaming journalists in certain big companies seriously on the fact of them trying to insert dumb ideologies/opinions as if it should be valid.
Thanks Micah for the video regarding this.

I understand what you're talking about, because the spear and loincloth imagery can be a little jarring when you first see it and it seems like it's reinforcing stereotypes, but there are still tribes like that in Africa. If the entire game was fighting tribal enemies, I'd agree, but you go through modern towns in the beginning and industrial areas towards the end. It shows that Africa is a modern continent with certain groups of people that have simply chosen to live a traditional lifestyle.

When Capcom inevitably does the RE5make, they definitely aren't going to include Shevas sexy jungle alternate costume. Even back then the progs were indignant about it being offensive to black people. On top of the controversy about how for most of the game you have a white guy shooting black zombies. Which absolutely wouldn't fly today in a post-george floyd world.

To be fair, I learned more about Resident Evil 5 in this video than from any other source. Probably because I don't bother looking up RE5 because it's a memetic sinkhole in the series. Punching boulders--how can you go right? However, I believe everything gotten wrong is deliberate, considering he preemptively rendered his social media private. He's a meticulous troll, but not a very good one. You must be a member of 4Chan or somehow acquire anonymity before pulling something like this off. The editor let it pass because free clicks.
When I heard of this article, I just figured the author was just another woke whiner. Cue your sequential eviscerations and I'm horrified to discover the jerk might not have played the game. You know what the worst part is? Resident Evil 5 practically predicted the hoopla of distributing alleged vaccines (the coof ones don't operate as such and it'll take half a decade before they ready one for testing) with a bunch of offshore miscreants doing likewise to a scant few African villages.
In short, a hit piece designed to downplay RE5 because it predicted something that the journalists are still collaborating on covering up.

You think anyone who goes to college with dreams of being a journalist one day does it so they can write "Top Ten Jerry Springer Episodes" clickbait articles for a living? These people are stuck in these types of journalist jobs and sell their integrity and pride for clicks that earn their trashy employers ad revenue. Sure, you're making money and people are staring at you in both professions, but one is going to be looked at as more respectable than the other.
