Has it happened in anytime that the engine let your down ? I'm thinking buying 1.6 one, but worried that the engine could fall short in some scenarios, so is there any case that the engine didn't do well ? unfortunately I don't have the liberty to buy 2.0 one
@@rafaeladel20 if you are a relaxed and smart driver it is a good choice to take the 1.6. Those who always on the fast-lane, even the 2.0 isnt enough because of the cvt.
Thats good to know actually as I have a limited budget and the 1.6 is the more affordable option, plenty for sale in UK currently. Id get the Impreza hatch 1.6 but hardly any left now, and I believe the ride is a bit firm so probably not for me. The XV looks a good all rounder for long term ownership.
So glad to see there's still intelligent life in British car journalism. Excellent review, straight to the points and, most importantly, no stupid nagging about silly things 😉
These cars are not light, thats one thing to remember, it wont be quick because of power to weight ratio, but Subaru are not stupid. For most daily driving circumstances at the SPEED LIMIT, and not driving like a fool, im sure the power is perfectly fine. The 1.6 still has 111lb of torque and 112bhp, and although a heavy car, the engine sounds so good you will enjoy hearing the revs rise as you drive it. These fellas talk good sense compared to other reviewers who only mention negative aspects, but then its all down to personal choice and not everyone wants a hugely powered car. A lot of drivers today seem unable to enjoy motoring unless it has tons of torque. Think a lot need to grow up a bit. The road isnt a racetrack, and I laugh when I see accidents caused by bad drivers. Its their own stupid fault for being impatient. This car will last a long time, and no need to keep trading in every three years like most people do. Go on, waste your money on yet another finance deal. Just get one good car and keep it, and when you make the last payment you own it yay !
Another great video guys! This version looks a lot more aggressive than the 2015 version, I went in a few years back. My wife's friend had it in a really nice orange, thou i do like the dark metallic grey . I can see that the interior is so much nicer than the previous version too. is the 1.6 lump a boxer engine? I am looking forward to the pickup videos.
Softtouch plastic is great in the front but not in the back. When you use the car for moving lots of stuff (like going to the tip) you always have to be careful of your interior. When you fold down the rear seats it is nice there is not to much vulnerable material in the back to destroy. My last car was a Forrester and it was clear that Subaru actually thinks of such small things, making the car just that little bit more practical than other cars. You just only notice it when you have owned the car for a few months or so. It's not brochure material, it just all works. Going for a testdrive next week I hope, it's now on my shortlist.

A CVT is not a gearbox chaps; there's no gears ;) I own a 2.0i and I love it. Super smooth and plenty of power. I also average about 45mpg when out of town.
It’s an interesting one this, as it is a Continuously Variable Transmission, and technically a 1 speed gearbox according to many a well known car website. Regardless of Semantics it really does vary from vehicle to vehicle. *ben
So annoying that CVT gearboxes are being fitted to so many cars. I haven't read a good review about them. Fitted purely for emissions and economy, never for driving pleasure. Unreliable as well.
Unreliable compared with which kind of transmission? It doesn't have clutch(dsg has two of them) and dsg has also a mechatronic unit, that has an expensive repairing costs....I can asume that It could be lazy and boring than a dsg or Torque converter gearbox type, but other than the belt,i think that is simplier and more reliable than a dsg gearbox
Good overall review but very scripted. Better if was more conversational and also less repetitive. I like the car, disappointed about parking sensors and small boot (same size as a hatchback)
The repetitive parts are primarily for people who only want to watch one section, and none of it is scripted. Natural conversation can be seen more so in our later reviews, thank you for the feedback *ben
Scripted ? All I could see was two normal blokes talking about the car as things come into their heads while filming. Perhaps its easy to repeat a couple of things with a camera pointing at you.
because of your great review i purchased the 1.6. instead of the 2.0. and i am perfectly satisfied.
That’s great news, and thank you for telling us, enjoy it.

I did to after owning two 2 litre ones, and I'm more than happy with the power and petrol MPG for my needs.

Yes it’s a boxer engine, both variants are, the interior is very good, thank you
Well done boys one of the best on road reviews
Ta muchly Tassie, Annabelle and I also reviewed the latest one, and we’re just editing a green laning vid.

Very true, practicality is a key factor and great to hear Kees
Wise and Clever Review for 1.6l.
Thanks from Country where this car make.
Thank you, Daichan - Are you looking at getting one soon? *B

Very natural and to the point review. Would you choose this over the Duster? Thank you.
This has mire safety and a proven awd system, the Duster is impressive and great value
Very nice and clear review 👍
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you
Nice and clear, except for the last 10 seconds :) But seriously, a good review. Was that MPG unchanged later?
Thank you, we can’t be perfect all of the time, we had the vehicle a few more days after and yes the mpg stayed around that, increasing on eco runs.
Tks for the review! Would you buy this car without EyeSight system?
Personal preference, but no we wouldn’t, it’s one of the best safety systems out there.
No.
Great video guys. Cheers from Ukraine
Thank you very much
Thnx for your helpfull review.
Glad it was helpful - we really enjoyed making this review 👍
If that bag fitted under the front bumper too we'd then talk about a real competitor to the Jimny Ben.
It’s deceptive, far more capable thank you’d think Eleni, it’d be good to test them side by side
A fantastic review. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you

This model any issue in cvt and engine problems? The 1st gen had a cvt issues and expensive to repair.
Not that we’ve heard of, thank you 3K
I'd love to see you review the latest 2021 Subaru outback field! Keep up the good work. (❁´◡`❁)

You read too much. Perhaps you should try CVT but then again, if you have such a negative opinion about them already theres no point.
Good idea, test it
You cannot compare other cvt's to the Subaru one.
They work great and are reliable.
How about tuning the engine to get 15-20 more hp?
The latest e boxer variant takes care of better responsiveness with the small electric motor, have you seen our off off road vid?

Try out our latest reviews you well may see a difference, thank you PS Michael has now left and we have lovely Annabelle
With 1.6 , u can say u r driving a DUCK
This isn’t amphibious though, thank you
@@PlanetautoUK can u clear what u said
Ahmed Abdelrahman duck colloquially or DUCW is an amphibious vehicle with 6 wheels rather than 4, the 1.6 does well.
@@PlanetautoUK 13,8 sec to get 100 km is well ? Do you think so?!!!!!!!!
The market for the XV is not going for launches there’s the wrx at 5.8 for that, it’s very good off-road with perma awd
Someone who looks like they haven't had a driving licence that long reviewing cars! no no no.
COLIN CASSIE really? Michael is 23 no doubt Bens too old too😃
Boring car
Hi Brutus - we found it very good. Not as quick as WRX but a good all rounder.
Why watch it then ?
