In the United States, approximately 1/3rd of the money comes from gas taxes (though it varies widely by state), and that primarily is for maintenance. Those roads were not built from gas tax. In most states, property tax and sometimes a small portion of sales tax are responsible for road construction.

Per industry websites, in 2021, 26% of road construction costs were paid by gas tax. Gas tax. The remainder were paid by property, sales, state, income tax, and other sources.
State taxes also pay for asthma treatment from diesel exhaust while electric cars harm no one.

Some states have adopted an annual fee to electric car owners. In Oregon we even have an option to pay per mile (for low mileage people).

Genius; the registration fees for the EVs is exponentially higher, in lieu of Gas tax.

It's called being self sufficient The more society is self sufficient , the less we need the government. That's the point of going electric.

Not true. We have to pay an EV tax when we register the vehicle. This covers the gas taxes we don’t use.

There is no way currently that 15% of the cars on the road in the USA are electric

They pay higher registration fees. At least they do in Ohio.

That's not true brother, I drive an electric vehicle and I paid $200 every single year when I renew my tag to cover that gas tax I don't pay every day

Last I heard they were going to add a per mile tax on all card, so gas cars were paying twice!

So the electricity bill will go up as your gas bill goes down?

This is false, and you can figure out how false using Google and the state you live in. The gas tax covers a small portion of the road budget, and the majority of road funding comes from property taxes in most states.

    • @evanroden2225
      @evanroden2225 3 месяца назад +3

In fact, a large portion of road funding comes from people that don’t drive at all. The elderly and low income in your community are footing the bill for wealthier people that drive, so you can thank them.

For example, my local county spent $62 Million on maintaining roads, while they brought in about $20 Million.

Sure, and when Russia comes to bully down our trading partners, you tell me where the GDP comes from to sustain our unsustainable roadway system.
We're car dependent, and it's economically unsustainable. The solution is to prioritize public transport for cities, and make suburbs pay for their own roads and utilities instead of leeching off of those cities so we have more resources available for highways and rural thoroughfares.

Ok so let’s keep lining the pockets of gas companies instead of making progress and pushing the govt to figure it out fairly

newsflash: electricity is mainly produced by burning oil and gas. You are not saving or changing anything. Note: have you heard of a generator?

All BS. All taxes, including Social Security, go into a pot, and this pot is divided up according to the needs and whims of government. There is no so-called "lock box" where certain taxes are purely reserved for specific needs.
