Ah, here's my answer already provided :o) Interesting skis indeed

For my purposes very good, travel across lakes, and low gradient portages pulling pulk. Very good flotation, traction. For steep portages I now use rope and locking pulleys to drag pulk up slope. Take off skis, go "barefoot",( I am joking).

How well did the bristles work for climbing and skiing? Did that center strip cause any issues with sking and turning downhill ?

Bristles provide excellant traction in a variety of snow conditions. 10 > 15 degrees gradient uphill no problem. Steeper need poles and 'supplemental' bindings... I use a band cut across a car innertube, front under toe, back, up around 'achilles tendon" Center strip helps skis track straight, and help 'mitigate' the skis from slipping sideways in certain snow conditions. I use these for travel across 'chains' of lakes connected with nearly 'level' portages, pulling a pulk loaded to ~120 lbs / 54 kg. The skiis work well for this purpose, much, much faster and less effort than snowshoes, really no hill climbing. As for downhill; I have only limited experience with these, I have done some downhill with soft snow, new powder using a single pole 'rudder'. Skis parallel, lean to inside of curve, use pole as rudder. I have never tried 'telly turns' with these. I hope this response helps with providing some 'answer' to your questions.

@@corvusduluth Thank you for replying! I know this is an older video but I just discovered the Altai Hoki ski using the single pole and it looks like fun and want to try them out . Looks like the best of both worlds between snowshoeing, downhill and cross country. So the middle strip has no hindrance in performance going downhill with the single pole?? Does your heels sliding all over when you were going downhill and up hill?

@@deltafour1212 Yes, heels can twist/rotate sideways 'somewhat' going "Slalom" downhill. The binding/footstrap is 4cm / 1 9/16 inches wide which limits sideways twisting to an extent. These skiis are used by people mostly for transit between point "A" and point "B", not so much for downhill recreation. A utility or working implement/tool. "Hunter Skiis" come in many different widths and lengths, mostly the "square area" of ski to "match" the expected weight of user,(with gear), in order to provide maximum flotation with "ease of use"...skiis not so wide as to knock together when 'striding', able to use 'natural' stride. If mostly used in forest with underbrush, the user would have a broader, shorter skii to be able to make 'turns' around brush. If ski is mostly used in more open areas, skii could be longer and narrower. I bought 210cm/17cm because I use them to transit lakes mostly, skiis track straight, not any sharp turns.

Those are nice skis for sure, keep looking at these and still keep thinking I would like to make a pair. Shipping to Canada would be a huge killer for sure. Cheers Fred in Thunder Bay

+VE3FAL1_Fred Too True Fred (about shipping). I would like to make a pair also. The link to Hunter Fishing/Хантер фишинг shows how the fellow installed his own 'brushes'/kamus/kамус. He sort of 'sewed' them in, but I saw a different Siberian site in which the man used epoxy to 'fix' the bristles into place. I forgot about it until just now. I have seen others as well, they all used bristles from plastic whisp brooms. I don't know how a person could judge the 'right' stiffness of bristles for the 'kamus'. Hey Man you must have daylight until past 9:00 PM with the time change? Thanks for the comment, hope the season of muck and quag doesn't mire your ATV too badly, it's to be expected I guess, but still... Respect

+VE3FAL1_Fred Yes, Clearwater Lake ~40 miles North of Grand Marais off Gunflint Trail, was only less than 1/2 mile from Border with Thunder Bay District. Yes, Duluth.

Привет Алексей, Ha ha I didn't even know this video had uploaded!! I only have 'slow speed' internet, was to take 3 hours to up load, I thought something had gone wrong and video wasn't uploaded...good joke! A very long story about my search/research on 'ancient' skis. I was given the link to "ArtWood" by "Survival Russia" channel a few years ago, after I commented about my search for Sibir Leshiy/Lezhiy. I had seen other Russian channels with many different types of Hunter Skis. I had seen a video by Хантер Фишинг in which he was installing the Kamus/камус...pieces from a plastic brush, not 'real' камус-deer leg hide/skin. I mentioned this to Lars and he gave me a link to ArtWood, I guess because ArtWood uses a similar type of kamus/камус installation lay out (a V or 'chevron') as HunterFishing/Хантер Фишинг was using. Will post a link to the Hunter Fishing video. Спасибо Алексей--thanks for the interest Alexi.
