What's the difference between the elite and classic version?

Reply I got from Grillstream when I asked this exact question: "There is not a lot of difference between the 4 burner versions. The classic 4 does have light up lights, is matt grey and has a wire warming rack. The Elite is black, does not have light up lights, has slightly different control knobs and a different warmer rack."

why can't you put a gas canister in the bottom part?

Can you use lumpwood charcoal with the trays rather than briquettes?

Yes. We bought the hybrid with lumpwood in mind specifically (briquettes contain all sorts of nasties) and it works well. As soon as the lumpwood is white(ish) you turn off the gas - it takes a few minutes. And of course you still have other gas jets which can be used as an alternative.
