I am 56 years old and this is the first time I've paid attention to Walter Davis. At 45 seconds in, I was in awe of what I had seen. Michael Jordan has this cat's basketball DNA in him. The obvious choice was Dr J as an early influence, but this passes the eye test. This man inspired the greatest player in history. #Salute
Walter Davis was a joy to watch any given game he played from start to finish. He was the rare gifted player who could interest the most disinterested person in the game of basketball! He made the game of basketball fun to watch and exciting and did so with artistic flair. RIP Walter Davis. Your contributions to the game will forever be appreciated! Thank you.
I remember seeing him when I was younger . The Greyhound had a nice jump shot. He is overlooked because of guys like Magic and Dr J and he played in Phoenix but he was a good basketball player .
Unquestionably. The most graceful, picturesque, jump shooter I've ever seen. Though Mark Price and Ray Allen are not far behind. And the iceman, George Gervin as far as pure accuracy.
It’s crazy you can see a lot of what would become jordanism style wise from the way he runs the break to the way he gets to the lane and even down to being a gliding athlete more than a vertical athlete. Crack cocaine is one hell of a drug tho😂.
Random plays. Not career highlights. Now that he has been elected to the Hall of Fame (months after his death - shame on the people who vote on these things!), we'll get a proper set of highlights for Sweet D.
@@kwekufrimpong8044DeMars mid range shooting is almost as good as it gets. He's a top 10 all time mid range shooter and only #36 on the all time scoring list. If Walter Davis was a better shooter then your saying he's in small company on an elite list of shooters
Yes DeMar is a Very good mid range shooter and I'd say he mainly gets those looks because he's a more feared finisher and athlete n defenders will almost give him that rather than a dunk. On the other hand Walter was a very good athlete in his prime as well, although not in DeMar's class but was known as a pure shooter. DeMar is more of a creator w/the ball in his hands type while Walter was the guy moving w/o the ball coming off screens to get open for that sweet J. Different game back then. Less one on 1.
North Carolina and North Carolina State are different!!! I mean Im only play 8 years pro in Puerto Rico!!! I quite high school at age of 16 in 1996!!! That's why I only speak, read and write only 5 languages!!!so as a humble idiot 43 years old man, North Carolina and North Carolina State are the same?
Came here to pay my respects. R.I.P Greyhound. A true legend and one of the most underrated players of all time. You will be missed.

such beautiful form on that jump shot. R.I.P. to a great one!
He taught MJ many of his moves!
I'm here after finding out that he's MJ idol...

Walter was MJ's favorite player but he didn't physically teach MJ anything. Stop making up things.

Such grace, and what a truly small man! I love that free throw, every time.
Even with this video there simply isnt enough vids on Walter Davis...thats messed up because this man was incredibly accomplished😭

I can see the resemblance between Davis and MJ, particularly rookie MJ’s style of play.
GREYHOUND !.MR. WALTER DAVIS .. RIP
God rest his soul 🕊️
DAVIS HAS A SILKY SMOOTH JUMP SHOT.
Walter, I miss you my friend. You always showed humility and kindness to everyone. Rest in peace. - Duke Scott

That jump shot looks like MJ is shooting. Michael studied that shot
Hes on my all time team as shooting guard
Hall of Famer on any behalf.
He's substantially better than several who are in.
@@Amick44 indeed he meets the criteria. All of them were using coke back then.
Walter Davis is prehistoric MJ without the defense and 48 inch vertical
Im here after finding out that he's mj idol
Michael Jordan say this is the best guy he ever played against
No he didn't, He said that was his favorite player growing up and that's the reason that he went to North Carolina.
What song/artist music is at the ending of the video? The beat is banging!
RIP
RIP Walt.
Just heard he passed....
🙏🏽
Him and Marques Johnson had similar moves, though Walt was a better shooter, and Marques was bigger and stronger!
True . Walter was tougher to stop.
@@Amick44
I think both were mainly stopped by their head coaches, but that’s another story.
What position did Walter Davis play throughout his career
i'm pretty sure he played sg
@@backrimbasketball
In his NUGGETS days . Did he play SMALL FORWARD
@@mrboo3049 according to bball refenrence he played sg with the nuggets, but he did play some sf earlier in his career

Wow❤️
Thanks for the info😉
I always like his style.. his game is similar to ELGIN BAYLOR
He was a swingman ( shooting guard, and small foward )

An earlier version of DeMar DeRozan
Yes, much better shooter though, and not as much hops as Derozan.

Testified against teammates for immunity from prosecution over drugs. He was doing the same thing.
So Michael Jordan stole the move of Mister Davis?
No... Davis taught him the moves actually
