As well as the journey the plants take, your own personal journey is fascinating for us all to follow Nigel. Starting with single trees which you tortured and bent to your will ever watched you then progress to whole landscapes of trees. Now you're about to take the art to a whole new level, I feel sure. Perfection.... that's what you said you wanted! And the portulacaria is the perfect medium to make that happen. Perfection takes a long time - I'm excited to follow the journey too. 😀
Thank you Nigel for taking us on these incredibly interesting and informative journeys with you. It is just so inspiring! How can anyone who is vaguely interested in growing anything, not want to grow whatever small trees to replicate what you so expertly create. These dark, cold snowy days keep me going because of your videos. Thank you again!
Clever idea Nigel. You've certainly got enough trees for the landscape. The rock outcrops are very distinctive and will need work. You might start with flat, river-worn stones - as we use for skimming - and place them together vertically?
Hi Nigel. Fascinating video! A geography, art history and botany lesson rolled into one! I can’t believe the snow there too. Looks cold but beautiful. It’s lovely to see the different areas that you keep your trees in, their needs and that they’re all flourishing. The trees from Kubu Island are so awesome. They look like they’ve been pruned hard but that’s how they naturally are. Your Tokoname pot is beautiful too. I love how you have scored into the trunks of your Portulacaria afras to change the texture to look like bark of a baobab tree. I like try that too. Thank you for taking on my challenge and mentioning me in your video. I’m going to watch Part 2 now 👍
How exciting!! I look forward to seeing it all! I love your landscapes! Last crazy cold night here and back to lows in the minus teens, looks like zero and plus temps coming next week! Dogs are shedding already... Soon the birds will be flutterpainted!
Your opening almost sounded like the opening from Frost Bite Bonsai with the snow crunching under your feet. Another great video to relax with tonight.
This is exciting. Looking forward to the portulacaria afra forest redesign! Portulacaria afra videos were what I was searching for when I first found The Bonsai Zone. Can't wait for Part 2!!
Hi Nigel. I’m sat at 6.30am on a Sunday with a fresh cup of English Breakfast tea waiting to view both of your videos. I’m excited and will comment after viewing them 😀
Looks like the winter is almost over judging by the temperature in the coming week lol I hope this challenge goes well and I need to catchup on the videos!
The Boab Tree (The Upside-Down Tree - Aboriginal Dreamtime Story) The boab was once a tall, beautiful and proud tree in the plant world. It boasted about its graceful shape among other spindly trees in the arid terrain. "How superior I am" it seemed to say. This upset others in the plant kingdom and the God was not happy. He bewitched the seeds of the boab and the seedlings grew upside down. From then onwards, the boab underwent a curious change. The bark developed folds. Instead of tall and slim, it became grotesque, short and fat. However, the boab was not deprived of all good features. The flowers and leaves in the wet season provide shelter for men and animals. The roots provide water for the travellers and the seed pods is an edible food for the Aborigines.
Hi Nigel! Thank you so much for such wonderful videos. I do have a question though. I’m wondering how Laura’s chickens and ducks are doing. I haven’t heard them lately.
@Nigel Saunders, The Bonsai Zone oh nice! Yea we just had a cold snap, lasted about a week with yesterday by far the coldest day... but a very nice week coming up, thankfully, as I was done with the extreme cold... it hung around long enough!
What a cool island! Can’t wait to see it get together! Did you know the PA bark was going to heal like that when you did the ‘elephant scarring’? It looks way cooler then the normal PA ring bark!
I was hoping it would produce some nice scaring, but I didn't expect it to smooth out so quickly, it will be interesting to see it in the future after a summer of growing!
Looking forward to another landscape wonderland. Thanks.
Likes.....thanks your information...👍

Loving these atmospheric night time thumbnails.
👍👌👌
With a bit of imagination, the island pictures of the trees seem to show the trees dancing to the 🎶 music. Very cool!
I’m liking the way you think. Looking forward to watching you create your vision. Thanks, keep growing

Yes, it feels more like March than February!! Thanks Xin!!
My goodness. How old would these trees be? Great video. Thanks Nigel, we learn something new every day.
@13:48 magnificent trees
Don’t know how you manage in that weather 😮
Nigel, why not continue the same version without changing it, and make another one as you say? I like to see your trees.
These Baobab trees must be so old they were there before Jesus just share beauty . I would love to see that live.

They are all doing well! They couldn't understand why they couldn't go outside today, the sun was out and they don't realize it's too cold outside!!
Good evening Nigel. Looks like we traded weather patterns. Yesterday was -38, by this afternoon it was -2!!
I think we have the same warm weather coming here tomorrow!!
