I love how real and down to earth Gary is. No pretension, no bullshit, all heart and talent.

Furniture maker and American Craft Council Fellow Garry Knox Bennett died unexpectedly on January 28, 2022, at the age of 87. He was a giant of a man both physically and artistically; standing six feet nine inches, he also cut an impressive figure as a bold experimentalist, combining unconventional materials into his furniture and decorative works. Thank you for your contributions!

I am so sad Garry died ! I knew him in 1974. I came from France with a Youth organisation. He heard on the radio that the irganisation needed parents to give a bed for one month. He did it. I learned to know him and his family and his work. His work was and still remains great ! Kisses Garry where you are. Michel Moussey.

What's unfortunate is that the captions ARE edited. I blame YouToot.

Probably the most innovative woodworker/artist in America in the last 75 years.

I rang Garry from the San Francisco Youth Hostel in 1983 after flying in from Oz.
He said “ What are you doing there, Do you drink beer.”
Stayed with him for a couple of weeks, Garry even loaned me an old rag top VW to get around in.
Helped around the workshop, he was making a piece for Laminex.
He had a different bandsaw then , I helped him stretch new rubber tires on and chased up linings and fixed the brake.
I next hitched up the coast to Fort Bragg and visited Krenov, interesting reaction when he learnt I’d just been at Garry’s.
In 1988 Garry flew out to Oz and we hosted him at home and he made a bench in Jarrah that now lives in my living room.
I last caught up with Garry in 2000 at Emma Lake Saskatchewan.

From what I see, the dust collection system is his shop. I do that from time to time, not like I used to though.
