It's not more challenging, just different. I don't know how Genesis paints work, but if they don't sell the shade that's needed, if possible, you can always try to mix them to get the right color (usually what traditional painters do.) The only thing that I think may make a difference is the tone of the base/vinyl being used. If vinyl came in darker (realistic) tone options, I think blotchiness would be less of an issue and it wouldn't take as many layers. That being said, if someone doesn't want to do darker skinned kits, that's a choice. I'm, personally, not making a huge judgement on that artist for that choice, even if it's disappointing for me. Nor do I expect them to keep darker skinned dolls in their collection. But I don't agree that it's any harder to achieve. Like with any kind of art that is meant to replicate reality, it's about observation and application gradually until you have the desired result. The artist just has to decide that's what they want to do.

    • @KitstoKradlesNursery
      @KitstoKradlesNursery  2 года назад +3

Yessssss and thank you for mentioning the darker toned vinyl, I know someone who is using darker tones with some of their silicone dolls when they pour them and I thought that was brilliant! If we can buy darker toned vinyl dolls in the stores, why are they not making some darker toned vinyls for us to paint? I have asked this question so many times, but the only thing I can think of is when you pour a lighter vinyl then the artist can choose which way they want to go with that kit. It would make it easier I think to have the option of certain kits being created as both darker and lighter vinyl. 💗

Aww, Vivvie looks so adorable in her giraffe themed attire!!!🦒🦒Misty, I'm so sorry that you received such racial negativity concerning your painting style😔 Your babies are so beautiful and loved by many. You don't have to justify how you paint or the reasons why you paint what you paint. Just continue to do you! It is so sad that people can't just enjoy the art & leave it at that. Negativity should have no place in it in any way. Take care sweet lady, may God always bless you!🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

As long as you have pure intentions into your painting and aren't doing things like purposefully making a stereotypical baby of color (don't know who would do that to be honest anyways) then I'd say keep practicing and doing what you love 😊

Aww. Hope is so cute! (Vivie too.) My best friend is black and he's watching this with me. He says he wants you to keep Hope forever because she's a beautiful baby. And when you talk about painting ethnic babies, I totally get it. I'm an artist (not reborn. But pen to paper, paint to canvas artist). I've had people attack me as well for not drawing ethnic people (even though I do). It's so much easier to paint your own skin tone because you look at it everyday. Also, there are limited tutorials on how to paint/draw darker tones. I'm still learning it but I understand it's hard. Lots of love!

I am so very tired of knowing about people who can't just be nice to EVERYONE. Why can't people do things that they enjoy without pressure and judgment?
I can't imagine someone criticizing an artist for painting something in their own style. Whatever happened to "Live and let live".

  • @ririsnursery3312

Unfortunately, we live at a time of entitlement. Some believe, just because they want it now, it should be done. No artist should be compelled to create a “certain” baby of any type. This is art and an artist needs to be free to create was is in their heart and mind. If the artist is drawn to create only white or only black or anything in between, that is their choice. I’m a collector and will not be told what to buy. I buy based on what draws my eye and moves my heart. We all grow and change over time and so our taste will change. I do believe artist that want growth will venture out of their comfort zones in time and should not be pressured. Pressuring stifles creativity and then the art becomes lost. Misty sending you love and peace on this beautiful Sunday my dolly sis🥰🥰🥰🙏

    • @KitstoKradlesNursery

“ pressuring stifles creativity and then the art becomes lost.” So very true! I think what compelled me the most to break out of my comfort zone, was seeing specific kits and looking at them and seeing that their most beautiful potential was to paint them in a darker tone and that was my vision for them, and it would upset me when I felt like I couldn’t create that doll in the image that I had in my mind for them, how I saw them to be. I just had to try and for the most part I was successful. I was able to push myself through that process because it was something I wanted to do not because I felt pressured to do it and that is so extremely important during the creative art process! 💗

That is so ridiculous that she said that to you! I’m a reborn artist as well and I have never painted an ethnic baby because I don’t know how and I wouldn’t do the baby justice. I did reborn a bountiful baby ethnic kit years and years ago that already had the darker skin tone. But thats it. I don’t have any ethnic reborns either because I just haven’t found one I really liked and could afford. I just think people need to mind their own business!

Thank you for this! I feel like some people think you can just slap darker paint on the doll and voila! But they don’t understand that darker skin tones are actually really colorful, they have yellow tones and red tones, olive tones etc. you need to really study different skin tones on all kinds of different people. It’s harder than ppl think. I am enjoying the process but want to achieve the realism on my darker skin babies. 💗

Oh my goodness, she is so adorable!!! I absolutely love her coloring. She reminds me so much of my little sister, Olivia. Her heritage is Mexican and Caucasian. She has the most beautiful skin. And that outfit…❤❤❤
I’m still a really new artist. I have completed only two babies in almost a year. Mostly bc of life but the supplies just weren’t there either. I got a starter kit last October and then the bottom fell out for GHSP 😢
For the person who suggested that darker skinned babies ARENT harder, um, no ma’am. If she’s an artist and can do them well, then she definitely has been blessed with more ease and finesse to do that work.
I have a little Rosebud that I think would be a beautiful baby of any darker toned skin. I have worked on that baby for MONTHS. I even set her down for a while, did more research (though not much to be had bc the one lady that was recommended for me to watch was no longer available for some reason). I mean I tried so hard and had to strip her down several times. I finally decided to give myself a break and come back to her. I am so discouraged that I have dreams about this doll. It IS HARD! I’m not giving up but dang it, it’s NOT easy. My poor Rosebud was so splotchy over and over and I still don’t understand why. I mixed my paint often and well, I applied it evenly and quickly as to not allow any places to dry before I was done and I let her dry thoroughly before baking. I just haven’t got the knack for it….YET.
So, I agree completely that it is expensive and time consuming and HARD. Unless your an artist who works in vinyl, it’s hard to comprehend. It’s just not like canvas, paper or any other medium I can think of besides silicone. It really just does have its own set of difficulties.
That said, I am not one to give up, so as I move forward in this craft, I am determined to learn to paint darker babies. My sister is Chinese and wants a portrait baby of her son. I would also love to make a portrait baby of my youngest sister, who is the most beautiful shade of deep brown, for my mom. It might take me a while but I will eventually figure it out.
And yes, I know that’s a lot of sisters and there are more, lol. I’m the proud oldest of 14 adopted kids (6 boys and 8 girls)of all colors nationalities and differing physical and intellectual abilities ❤

Thank you so much for this because I thought it was just me. I do this for a living and it takes me the same amount time to complete just one bi-racial baby then it did to complete the 7 other Caucasian babies that were on my table! If it’s a hobby then yes, you have that time. I thought it was Sooooo much harder and I didn’t even achieve the tone I wanted. I wanted that beautiful deep chocolate color, with just some slight warm reddish/brown tones. I did enjoy learning something new and I am still wanting to make more but now GHSP is discontinued again. 😭

@@KitstoKradlesNursery ABSOLUTELY! I would like to make this my career but with an ailing mil and other responsibilities I have had to put it on the back burner. But it absolutely IS harder if you want to do a good job. If one doesn’t really care about the quality of their work, I guess it would be a different story. I understand the desire and the need to do quality work. It’s not just like slapping paint on a factory doll and you’re done. This is an art, a passion for the ultimate realism and to give the consumer the absolute best quality for their money because for most collectors, it’s a passion for them as well.

I will give you my two cents on this topic. And you know I've been on your channel for a while now and have left comments many times so I'm not a hater or someone who's stopping by just to be a negative Nancy. Just like you were real and honest I will be too just to give some perspective from a latina collector's standpoint. I understand that darker skintones are harder to do, take more time, more materials, cost more to make and therefor are more costly to sell. I also understand that like you said if you mess up a baby during the process, you are wasting hundreds of dollars worth of money. You can sell them as a boo boo baby but precisely because it has a defect you won't be able to sell them for as much as you would your other babies. All that I can understand and know for a fact to be true. That just doesn't negate the fact that there are few and far between reborn artists who work with the dark complexion and when you're looking to commission one and maybe you find an artist who's style you love and wonder what a biracial baby would look like painted by them only to be met with the same response over and over again "I don't paint darker babies, I don't know how to make them". I'm not a reborn artist, but I am an artist who paints, draws etc and for the longest time people would approach me to make realistic portraits for them. I always declined under the same reason "I don't do realism, I don't know how to do it". For years I did this until I realized that "I don't know" is simply not an excuse. Because the time that I spent doing the same thing over and over again I could also spend learnig, practising and refining skills that I already possess. Really the only person limiting my ability to grow and learn as an artist was me. Not saying this is your case specifically but I can speak for many artists in general on every field when I say that we limit ourselves by staying inside a creative box we refuse to leave. Maybe because it's familiar and comfortable to us, maybe because leaving it would require a leap of faith, starting from scratch, building a new set up, starting over etc. It can be very scary sometimes trying something new but if we never take the first step we never grow. Now, am I the saint patron of realism? Absolutely not. My drawings are still wonky as heck but that's what practice is for. And I intend to practice until I can make it near perfection (because there is no such thing as perfect) and I am lucky enough to have an amazing support system who loves my art even when I know that it's not the best and has mistakes that can be improved upon. You have this support system too, people love your work even when you think it's not the best. I've seen your babies improve over time and the same people who loved them a year ago still love them now. I implore any reborn artist to not get discouraged at the thought of trying something new.
As for what you said about artists only doing black babies I can't speak for all of them but I recently commissioned one who works with every skin color under the sun but if you look at her socials you would think she only paints darker babies. The reason for that is because she gets commissioned to paint darker babies almost exclusively because there are such few artists that make them that when we find one that does is almost like finding a rare gem. So they get requests for the darker babies more then they get for the lighter skin babies. And to be fair, what I paid for a custom baby by her was not much higher than what I've seen premade caucasian babies up for adoption. And I'm not talking about the rare 5k vinyl reborn. Just yesterday I saw the same sculpt I ordered painted as a white baby being sold $300 over what I paid for my custom (and I paid just below 1k).
We truly don't see a lot of diversity and it is a shame. Are there valid reasons for that? Sure. But it is a shame nonetheless. I hope for the day we have more artists taking on the challenge. I'm sorry for this loooong comment but I just had to put my opinion out there. Much love 💗

I'm an AA reborner and would love to make AA babies; however, as you stated it is very hard. I have tried several times to make AA babies and my skin tones do not look natural to me. Second, I do not have the patience or time to make darker babies as I work full time. I paint what works for me. I don't know what chat rooms this artist is in, but in the last year I have not seen any blatant talk of race. I HAVE seen a couple passive aggressive people make comments about "no more light skined babies", but they are always dismissed. I agree it is not easy and every AA baby I've made so far have beenis boo boo babies. I will try again, but I'm not wanting to ruin my expensive sculpts. I do want to add, there is nothing wrong with someone suggesting to see more of themselves represented in the community; however, as you said artists should paint what they have the desire to do so without judgment.

I think it’s ridiculous because everyone of every race does whatever is most comfortable for them. It’s not a color thing it’s a culture thing in my opinion.
If everyone lived by the golden rule and stopped blaming and shaming each other it would be nice.
The artists I’ve seen that paint AA and biracial baby dolls don’t paint caucasian dolls at all. So everyone can do whatever they want to.
If anyone questioned me as they have you I think I’d just not answer or tell them thanks, have a great day, bye, lol. 🤷‍♀️

Yes, I agree. This happened about a month ago and I just deleted and blocked but I got to thinking this was a good opportunity to explain to collectors why you don’t see many ethnic babies and why they are so expensive when you do find well painted ones. 💗 I don’t feel the need to justify anything I do to anyone. 🥰

@@KitstoKradlesNursery Good for you. Of course I don’t know that much about painting the dolls like you do but I’ve definitely heard and read that all darker toned skin colors are way more difficult to master.
Do whatever is good for you.

Love your channel! If I could offer some advice I'd recommend not referring to the babies of different racial backgrounds as ethnic because I personally think ethnic is kind of a broad and somewhat offensive term to use when the word ethnic refers to ethnicity or in short belonging to the same ethnicity. So I think it's a little harmful to refer to racially diverse babies as "ethnic" if that word isn't used to also describe Caucasian babies even though cacausians can also be referred to as "ethnic" since that is an umbrella term for any particular group that shares the same ethnicity or cultural background if that makes sense. That's just my opinion though and if you'd like a suggestion for a different umbrella term I'd recommend referring to racially diverse babies as people of color 😊

Ethnic can also mean a diverse group of individuals ( like living in one area) including Caucasian. I call my the babies that I create that have no assigned ethnicity ethnic. That means if a mommy is Italian, Hispanic, Caucasian with darker tones ( my sister), Indian, Asian, biracial, AA, etc. that baby’s ethnicity can be assigned by the adoptive parents. I think that when ppl assume things ( like that I am just creating AA babies and calling them ethnic) that’s when racism gets freely thrown around. Nobody knows my family tree and ppl assume a lot on social media. When I know exactly what kind of reborn I am creating and I choose to assign a specific ethnicity to that doll, then I will call it what it is. Ie Caucasian, Asian, Hispanic etc. I have since just started using the term “ darker skin tones” because too many ppl are not educated enough to know the difference in terminology. It’s a learning process as always. Ppl are always going to assume the worst and ppl will always try to start drama over anything and be offended by everything. That is the world today.

Also I think reborns are a rather personal doll that typically (though not always) is an extention of their creator/owner. So although you have owned and painted racially diverse babies I think even if you haven't that doesn't make you racist or anything of the sort just because you yourself are a Caucasian women therefore the babies you own would typically reflect that as it would in real life. But that's also the beautiful thing about this hobby is just like how people in real life can adopt babies of cultural backgrounds that are different from their own we wouldn't refer to those people as racist
just because their baby is different from them now would we? So the same mentality in my opinion can be applied to this hobby 😊

Enough of the racism..nonsense. If ethnicities..feel they are not represented well...then become a Doll creator..sculptor..and/or make your own. There is an old saying "If you see a need..fill it." Any doll maker..sculptor..can make any doll they want.
