- I went chasing big Jacks this week after work and ended up changing tactics and enjoying some topwater action right on dusk. This is a bit of a change up in format from my regular tips and review videos so I'd really appreciate your honest feedback on what you like or don't and what you want to see more of on my channel. 1. don't change your style, your tribe has found you
2. Love an AsK John FAQ answering a bunch of consistent questions
3. How do you decide what lure to use in a new spot when you have hundreds of awesome ones to choose from?
4. I know you can't share spots..but a rough guide eg jacobs well, or nerang etc is helpful for those of us with limited knowledge.

Thanks a lot Paul ;) I’ll have to get a answers session going a you’ve mentioned for sure. And the decision behind lure choices is a great discussion also. Matching the bait is a big part to it, and a great place to start but there’s also lots of different bait at times so worth a discussion style video too I’d say. In that video you’re watching I’m up Nerang :) there’s so many options from Jacobs to South of the Tweed that I try to hit as many I can year to year. Esp. With the Jacks. :)

Great idea about talking to other fishos and finding out what they use and how they fish etc. It would bring the weekend fishos into the lime light a bit,and as you know we never stop learning . No doubt John if i see you up the sunny coast or anywhere on the water i will be pulling up picking your brain. Great vids mate and you come across so well on the vids and you explain what your ideas and tactics are, bloody good stuff ,keep the longer vids going , yep late nights editing and must be the odd long day at school, but as you say you love it.

I do enjoy the longer videos around beer 30. Great to grab a bevy and settle in. And looking forward to what's in your box videos. You don't want to look in my box of rubbish. I'm not a Jack fisho but enjoy the vids and maybe one day I'll target them but not in my 6m plate boat and no electic. I've got some yaks but they are big and heavy and I'm getting old.

Like the longer vids. Bloody love chasing the Trevally down there over Summer. Almost exclusively at night doing very much what your are, waiting with lures ready to launch. We have a few areas dialed right in and know where to start. On nights when they just don't show up I have no idea where they go which can be frustrating.

@@mylurebox I don't know how the locals sleep at night with the Trevs smashing around the whole time. Not quite as exciting as surface lures but have a crack with something like a IMA Sasuke 75f. Casts like a bullet on a light threadline, perfect for punching at those fleeting bust ups. Can handle a high speed twitchy retrieval and only runs about a foot deep. My favorite Trevally lure if I just want to catch fish and surface strikes aren't a priority. Very underrated!

@@mylurebox So good, especially for those of us that don't catch Jacks 😂. I'm not close to the coast so it makes more sense to me to dabble in Jacks now and again but target Trevally, far more achievable. I'd risk the doughnut more but a trip to fish Nerang river is an hour and a half towing each way with tolls to boot. Trevs simply make more sense to me.

I love the longer formats! Can't think of anything better than watching these vids on a Sunday afternoon. Well, I can, but I live in the country so I can't get to the salt water often enough! I'm also completely new to lure fishing so I find all the info super helpful.
Also try top water lures when its getting a bit dark you will get a surprise 120 95 mil sugarpens

Great video from start to finish! I really enjoy podcasts like the ALF podcast, so the what's in my box concept is an awesome idea. Especially the idea of using amateurs and accomplished fisho's.

Hey bro. Thanks for your questions. Fuel per session might be $5-10 max I reckon. Upkeep is minimal except charging the batteries for next trip. I’m hopeless with maintaining it but cause I’m using it all the time it tends to work for me. Long and idle seasons is what hurts em in my opinion. I’ll have to do a vid on exactly this topic. Keep an eye out for it.

I was watching one of your other videos the other night and it was in relation to some of the new release 2019 release hard body LUCKY CRAFT lures, well i am fairly sure it was for LUCKY CRAFT so if it wasn't i am very sorry.
You were praising some of the new colours and you mentioned a new red colour that looked like a baby Mangrove Jack.
Is there any chance you know the colour code or name or have a photo of it you could post if possible please.

I've always found night time to be the best time to fish but as I've stated before mate, I'm an old school bait fisherman. So I always collected my bait in the afternoon like yabbies, spats and puddy mullet to fish into the night which brings me to my question... do you do much night time fishing John and if so, what lures work best at night. I'm also wondering how much money does this style of fishing incur on one's wallet, seems like a lot of money is spent on having the latest and greatest lure, rod & reel set-up, so seeing what other anglers are using would be very interesting indeed.

I’ll have to have a good think on the costs and make a full video on that topic cause I’m sure there’s plenty of blokes considering the same thing. I reckon high end gear is a bit over the top for where I’m at at least. I like using good gear but definitely can’t afford some of the crazy expensive stuff. Bait fishing definitely is cheaper I’d say. Having said that, you’d be hard pressed finding a lure fisho who’s found some patterns to do away with em completely. Cheers for getting me thinking too ;)
Re. The night time stuff, I’m doing more now than ever. Topwater lures are good fun for it ;)

Always wanted to catch a Big Grey Ghost but they eluded me over the years, caught plenty of the smaller school jew but never a big girl. I'm sure I've lost a few over the years while fishing for Tailor, due to hooks pulling and being a bit under gunned with my setup but I have to admit I never did put the time in to target them either... well not the time they deserve.

I didn’t have the balls to drop in mate. I used to hang around a bit down there but mostly played soccer at the Bulldogs and little athletics down the end of the street. Miami primary too. Hahah
